[Read the article: The rubes and the elites]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]At this point given these developments, I might not disagree with you (imagine that).
While I don't fully understand why Hillary is seen as the working-class hero she purporting to be, perception is powerful and that's the way its being spun so...
ON the other hand, guess what...if SHE gets the nomination she already has no choice but to choose HIM. And she better hope he accepts.
As i said in an earlier post, worse case scenario for Barak is that is latest flap has may be forcing his hand in terms of a VP choice (Hillary) whereas before, not so much.

[Read the article: The rubes and the elites]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]No that's not what tele_dan meant. Not everyone in rural America who votes for HRC is a racist. Most aren't, I'm sure.
What he means is that people favor the familiar that's all. (not just the rural voters but everyone in the world favors the familiar). For them, Barak is different. That's not a big deal either. I'm not making an issue of that. We all prefer what's comfortable and familiar. Most of us are also willing to listen and to consider the views and opinions of those who are different. But only up to a point.
Teel was simply saying Barak had his work cut out for him in rural PA in reaching out to people who are less familiar with them than other populations of voters. That's all. And that any little slip up might cause sufficient discomfort to *lose them*. That's all. It's not racist.
Incidentally, familiarity is why the republicans have been so effective in garnering a fair portion of these rural voters in the last two elections. The God and Guns presentation looks more familiar to them. It is also why the dems are pandering to them with their beer, bowling, faith forums and shot glasses. Its pathetic but it is what it is.

OT - Anybody think of this?
[Read the article: Did the "bitter" flap affect the race?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Contrary to what most dems thinks, I LOVE how McCain is running around shooting off his mouth unopposed and unchallenged. It gives him multiple opportunities to say stupid things and outline his position in front of his "friends" and those he trying to "befriend". Each time he says something and everyone claps, he thinks it OK. BOY will be be shocked in the general election when he discovers there's an economic crisis and that people want out of Iraq and that people DON'T think social security should be privatized (his latest statement) etc etc.
The REALLY FUN PART will be watching him trying to shift left ever so stealthily when he realizes only 28% of people in America agree with his policies while still trying to appeal to a base that hates him.
Sorry. That was OT. I guess i'm tired of reading the same old shit from the same old people no matter what the article is.
OH. on topic:
No way to know if the bitter flap effected the race until AFTER the primary. Duh.

McCain makes me sick
[Read the article: McCain gets donuts; Obama gets likened to a terrorist]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]ick.
I don't think they will ever turn on him.

McCain Decoded
[Read the article: McCain reverses course on "rogue-state rollback"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Its so interesting to see him veering left and trying to use leftist *catch phrases* to attract indies (like me) and moderates and maybe even SOME dems.
I'd like to create a *decoding game* that can be used online and by 527s in the general.
For example, recently he said (in response to the mortgage crisis):
"...we want to preserve the American dream of home ownership and take steps to keep deserving Americans in their homes..." (paraphrased except the part about "DESERVING" which he said like four times in his speech)
(decoded: YOU aren't deserving. YOU couldn't afford THAT home. You had no right to the American dream. And anyway, you didn't put enough money down and you don't have enough money in savings. Everyone knows ARMs are for losers, like YOU. You should have known better)
or today when he said (in response to the health care crisis):
"...I will work to reduce health care costs and insist that those people who CAN afford to pay for their prescriptions pay for their own prescriptions instead of the hard working, American taxpayer footing the bill."
(decoded: All 16 people in the US who CAN afford their prescriptions, like Warren Buffet (he actually used his name!) should pay for their own prescriptions. The other 300 million folks, well, who knows? I also found it interesting that he mixed health insurance with medicare issues. Duh. He also in the same statement mentioned that hard-working Americans should be able to carry their insurance WITH them from job to job. Someone ought to tell him that 1) 1/6 of hard-working Americans DONT have it so they CANT take it with them, not to mention the underinsured; 2) the 80% of small businesses in the US who make up the majority of the jobs in the US cant afford to offer it to their employees and 3) the big corporations that COULD afford it opt to hire workers outside of the US market so they don't have to pay it. and 4) we are LOSING jobs so its not a given you will HAVE a job to take it to, even if you could.
Geez. Talk about OUT OF TOUCH.
Any creative types out there? We could make up something that could be used against McCain in the general and decode his slick left sounding language for members of our party (or others) who have a propensity not to THINK or LISTEN REALLY CAREFULLY.
Anyone?

Rich
[Read the article: The "Seas of David" plot "more hype than evidence"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yup. We must be reading from the same crystal ball. I predicted something similar many letter-moons ago. I wasn't as optimistic in my outlook as you. Americans....well, some of us are...well, i hope we're smart enough to not get fooled. or feared into another repub administration.
My prediction included a *functioning government in Iraq*. Since we know they will be having elections about that time. Suddenly things will be MUCH improved. MUCH. MUCH. yes.
