  • Not all Obama supporters want Hillary out

    Hey ya'll.

Fellow Obama supporters who want to insist she step down consider some positives that could come from her staying in:

First of all, this needs to be a fair and square nomination. Why not let it run its course? If she does poorly in PA and NC and supers start to choose, it is what it is. Her dropping out would be just as 'lopsided' to her supporters as Obama his conceding right now would feel to us. As lopsided as, barring serious electability issues, the supers choosing Clinton even if she went to convention with fewer delegates, pop votes, etc.

You want her to be graceful and classy, we should be too. Obama is ahead. Chill.

But she's ruining the party you say. No. ALthough we will all have our preferences, anything that creates the illusion of unfairness will be just as detrimental (which is why FL and MI cannot 'change mid-game from the rules they set over a year ago. Because other than a full re-vote - which the states cannot afford and the DNC won;t pay for, there's no fair way to solve it).

Second, even if her campaign drags up some real dirt on Obama, that's OK. It gives us time to mount our defenses against the republicans in the GE. IF those negatives don't hurt him or don't sustain any damage to him, we know they are issues that can be effectively dealt with in the GE. If they do damage him irreparably, Hillary has a case for electability.

So don't fret over the Hillary. Let her run her campaign, let her try. If she gets beat fair and square... well, it'll be easier to win over her supporters in the GE. As a comparison, think of how you might have felt had she won the nomination by getting the FL and MI delegates seated despite the rules that were set last year? See how sour your would have felt? Well, that's how Clinton supporters would feel if she dropped out. I KNOW the numbers don't add up but again, this is where CLASS and DIGNITY come in. Let her keep going. No big deal. It'll be over soon enough.

I've been enjoying reading you posts. Its rare that people are balanced in their opinions even though they support one or the other candidate.

some comments and perhaps some discourse about this comment:

I think Obama should distance himself from Trinity in order to win. I am disturbed that he doesn't find Wright more disturbing.

If Obama distanced himself would it not look hypocritical? He has said that he was not present when those particular sermons were delivered. He has said that had he been present he would have spoken with Wright about it. He could be lying, yes. But at this point after 20 years wouldn't it just look like positioning?

    and

As to finding Wright more disturbing, perhaps what is disturbing is subjective. What is disturbing to me might not be to you. Perhaps also it what is disturbing can be assuaged by other factors.

I'll use this example but please don't take it the wrong way: If my husband cheated on me in a very public way (ala Spitzer or Clinton) I would be very disturbed by it. Would I be disturbed enough to act on it by leaving my husband? Well, I would but not every woman would be. There might be other factors which offset that action. Would the fact that they chose to stay diminish how disturbing the transgression was? No.

I am perfectly willing to give Obama the benefit of the doubt (because his actions don't seem to support Wright's philosophy) that he did not hear those particular remarks and that he would have spoken with Wright if he had. I am also willing to understand that even though, in 20 years, he may have heard some disturbing remarks, there were other factors which offset any action to leave such as the things the church was doing in the community which he so loved.

Thanks for that post. I think i'll join you in doing what I can to let people who cannot civilly disagree know they are not welcomed here.

    @SHAWNWM

That means you. I've been reading your posts for the last few days and really, there's no excuse. We get it. We know how you feel. If you have anything meaningful to contribute, please do. But the constant low tone of your posts are no better than those of the so-called Obamateurs you claim to despise. No different.

I posted another to Shawn who responded to a post i addressed to AKA (someone else who I can have a civil conversation with on this board, thank god).

He hopped in and decided to address my post and spewed out some crap so i simply said to him BBYE

I refuse to talk with anyone here who isn't reasonable - Obama or Hillary supporters alike. I'm not super sensitive and i enjoy witticism but some people cross that line and i simple don't engage with those folks.

    Know what i mean vern?
