Original article: Real inconvenient truths

Sorry CaptainGroove, saying it doesn't make it so

Let’s cut to the chase, friends. The Left has co-opted natural climate change and using it as a tool to dismantle Western Industrial Capitalism. This is part of a calculated strategy in their relentless quest to establish their vision of a Global Socialist Utopian Society.

This is silly. We scientists are in the empirical, reality-based community. It doesn't make us infallible, but the conclusions of the scientists of the IPCC cannot and should not simply be written off as Left inspired propaganda for some hidden agenda. That is an insult to our best efforts to try to understand the world as it is rather than as we would wish it to be.

The real cause of global warming has been a slow but steady output of solar energy, this documented by solar astronomers since the mid 1950’s.

Links or other evidence? Make sure it's credible.

@Xrandadu Hutman

You have the patience of a saint to keep trying to engage S.H.A.M. etc. in a reasoned debate. If s/he really wanted to discuss the merits of his/her points s/he wouldn't be so confrontational and use so much pejorative language. I'm all for an honest exchange of ideas on their merits. I refuse to spend my limited time arguing with someone who isn't really listening.

@CaptainGroove

I asked for specific, credible evidence, not a google search. But, wanting to give you the benefit of the doubt, I did some sleuthing of the scientific literature and reputable sites, e.g., NASA and was not rewarded with much substance. The most compelling thing that I could find was a suggestion that increasing solar radiation might account for as much as 25% of global warming, but that was not referenced. Even if this is correct, that leaves 3/4 of the warming unexplained.

Since you are making the claim for increasing levels of solar radiation as the source of global warming, it falls on your shoulders to provide the specific, credible sources in the scientific literature.

Oh and one other point. You show yourself to be disingenuous about listening when you post things like the following,

"God, its fun to taunt these Lefty gasbags with cold hard facts. Prick their thin membranes with a sliver of Truth and they jet about in big loops, making continuous, wet farting noises while they deflate."

This is troll language. You don't really expect anyone to take you seriously when you baldly state your interest is political baiting rather than a serious discussion of the subject on its merits.

It just keeps getting worse

Reid was right, this is just like Vietnam.

Confronted with an unwinnable war, this administration attempts first to train the Iraqis to take over their own defense (remember how the South Vietnamize were supposed to be trained to defend themselves so we could leave?). When it becomes apparent that isn't going to work (just like the South Vietnamize didn't really have their hearts in "Vietnamization"), the next stage is to put the burden of defending the country entirely on US soldiers with concomitant increases in US casulaties (we're already seeing this with the surge). The only things still missing are the equivalent of our invasion of Cambodia (read: Iran) and a draft to support the number of troops to make it all possible (instead we are destroying the morale and capability of the volunteer army).

This is insane. I thought that the lessons of Vietnam would not be repeated in my lifetime, if only because there would be too many of that generation around to allow it. Yet here we are. I have never felt more strongly the need for something more closely resembling a parlimentary form of government. We need a vote of no confidence to force this adminstration to stand down and allow for them to be replaced by one that reflects the will of the people and that can act more intelligently.

Nearly two more years of insanity is too long to wait for this nightmare to end. Too many more dead; too many more shattered lives; too much more vital resources diverted from more useful purposes. Ultimately the damage will be worse than Nixon, unless Republicans in Congress find the will to support impeachment in a hurry.

Slogan

The old Jefferson Airplane had a lyric that might be a good starting point for a slogan.

"Life is change; how it differs from the rocks."

The McKay factor

The most telling aspect of the scandal, and the reason it's not likely to die, as much as Gonzales and the Bush administration would like it to just fade into memory, is the fact that the fired/resigned USAs are all Republicans. And when formerly loyal members of your own party are so angered and disillusioned that they are willing to speak out and predict lawsuits, you have a problem on your hands that can't be written off as mere partisan politics.

Yes, there are other reasons that the scandal should not be allowed to die, many of them very important (e.g., the violation of independence of the justice department, possible obstruction of justice in cases involving Republicans, etc.), but from a purely political point of view, I don't think the case will die because there are enough Republicans angered by the actions by Gonzales and Rove that they will ensure it does not just fade away.

In the meantime, I hope the Democrats keep digging. There's plenty that's been hidden from view that needs to see the light of day.
