re: mental defect, asshole, etc.

Ya know, rather than repeat myself while you continue to embarrass yourself by foaming at the mouth, hurling pathetic epithets and repeating yourself using BOLD words that, I suppose, you believe somehow make your case, I will stand on what I have posted. It's pretty straightforward.

The simple fact is, whether you or I like it, no one has broken the law.

The simple fact is, whether you or I like it, the SC has ruled on the right to bear arms, to wit:

-

Supreme Court: Individuals Have Right to Bear Arms

June 26, 2008

In a dramatic moment on the last day of this term, the Supreme Court declared for the first time that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to self-defense and gun ownership.

For most of the last century, the interpretation of the Second Amendment has been that the right to bear arms is a collective right, such as with military service; Thursday's ruling says gun ownership is also an individual right.

The 5-4 ruling grows out of a Washington, D.C., case in which a security guard sued the district for prohibiting him from keeping his handgun at home. In the District of Columbia, it is a crime to carry an unregistered firearm, and the registration of handguns is prohibited. The rules are so strict, they essentially regulate handguns out of existence. The regulations were intended to curb gun violence in the capital city.

The ruling struck down the ban on constitutional grounds, saying it flew in the face of the constitutional right to bear arms. (MORE)

Now, if a state additionally chooses to allow unrestricted open carry, that pretty much ends your legal blathering, because no one has broken the law in any respect. You or I may not like it, you or I may feel "intimidated", but that is, as previously pointed out, "tough shit", legally speaking.

If you yet believe there is some solid legal basis for your argument, take it up in court. I do not believe you can make your case, for the reasons previously articulated.

Re: My sympathies on this subject are with JNagarya.

Oh, so are mine. However, reality is against him, as you know. I see no point in beating my head against a wall to fight what is clearly, demonstrably an unwinnable battle. About the only hope we have in even nudging this country in a better direction would be some form of reasonable, fact-based discussion of the topic, but as I started off saying, this is not possible in America when it comes to guns. This thread proves it.

Re: I'm not holding my breath on this one.

I gave that up a long time ago. Now, I'm just an observer. But I insist that we must deal in reality, as much as I would like it to be different.

This is just a friendly Sunday badminton match, to me. :)

Re: Americans these days are typically personal weaklings, conditioned to narcissism, and tend to cope with stress very badly.

As you well know, the real stress has not even begun. We're sitting on pile of dynamite, just waiting for the fuse to be lit.

re: Even if it should be.

Ideally, we should all live in a peaceful society. In this society, the chances of that are zip, as you of course know. America worships the military, guns and violence. We worship our violent frontier past. We worship money equally. In fact, we pretty much worship the seven deadly sins, while claiming some sort of moral superiority!

We are one fucked up society.

My favorite quote that illustrates just who we are is this:

-

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "Fuck" on their airplanes because it's obscene!"

Right on, as usual, Master Yoda.

I can only hope that some X factor rears its head and changes what you have correctly outlined as inevitable. I see the whole thing degenerating into war as "weird ugly" kicks in.

Higgins: It's simple economics. Today it's oil, right? In ten or fifteen years, food. Plutonium. Maybe even sooner. Now, what do you think the people are gonna want us to do then?

Joe Turner: Ask them?

Higgins: Not now - then! Ask 'em when they're running out. Ask 'em when there's no heat in their homes and they're cold. Ask 'em when their engines stop. Ask 'em when people who have never known hunger start going hungry. You wanna know something? They won't want us to ask 'em. They'll just want us to get it for 'em!

re: attending VOLATILE political events armed isn't an effort to CONTROL through threat of violence?

Not if one is attending said political event in a state that allows the open carry of firearms without no specific restrictions on where that open carry law applies. You cannot successfully argue that the mere carry of firearms in such a state, no matter what the event, constitutes "intimidation", since carrying firearms is perfectly legal without restriction. It may be intimidating to YOU, but that is of no consequence, legally.
