...that I have gotten the last word in a tradition that may soon be leaving Salon Letters...the page between.
Like the space between, we deny it a right to exist before we even understand or comprehend what this whole experience has been about.
Hopefully some of you, probably not all of you, have read my other stuff and recognize that I am not the seething cauldron of misogyny that apparently boils the skin from the bones of women on the web. Nor do I support the kind of behavior that Kathy Sierra has apparently been subjected to.
I don't know what she could have done to provoke the attack of the Brownshirt neo-nazis who, because of the impending fall of their proto-fascist icon, Karl Rove and the TIA project, have now decided to point their "guns" at women. But apparently it was an APB from Sean Hannity or something to wage war against females and female liberals in general.
I don't care if Kathy Sierra told the little nutjob that his peepee was too small to be a man's, his mother was a whore for the French Foreign Legion in Algiers, or that dating one's sister does not qualify as legitimate sex play, even in Kentucky. Nothing rates publishing someone's personal, private information on the web along with graphic threats of violence of the most odious kind.
It is time to break out the academics and start trolling the web for this misogyny, perhaps publishing the information like one publishes the weather...if it is indeed as prevalent as women have been suggesting of late.
But I suspect that this most recent wave of noticible levels of misogyny is related to the impending doom of the Right Wing in the US and a last ditch attempt to divide the electorate prior to the invasion of Iran this Good Friday. An invasion which, like the last one, is designed to bail a failed administration out of another short-term down turn in their popularity.
So they think.
The web is like a human nervous system for me. It has outbreaks of disease that are quickly dispatched by an immune response that seeks to harmonize the greater good with the facts on the ground. Right now, the human neural network on the web is suffering from a cancer of the brain. It started in the heart back in 1913 with the advent of the Federal Reserve and has gotten worse ever since.
Unlike human terrestrial disease, however, this cancer can be defeated if enough of us would just focus our gnatty little minds on one thing at a time.
The problem is not Eric Schaeffer, or any artist who is putting their humanity out there for all to see. Joni Mitchell did this for many years and the results were, and continue to be, stunning.
I would gladly tolerate ten Eric Schaeffers if I could get one Joni Mitchell out of the bunch. Maybe even 1,000 of them.
The problem is the Oil Industry, the Bush Family, Dick Cheney, the Skull and Bones Society and the remains of the Nazi Occupation of Europe -- the United States National Security apparatus. This entire system of chaos, confusion and human evil needs to be taken apart and fed, piecemeal, to those who have the biggest appetite for its destruction: the communities of the Middle East.
In the meantime, I've abandoned my large 8-cylinder gas hog and have taken up more sensible forms of transportation. I volunteer all over my community to help those at risk of becoming a bigger burden than they already are on our underfunded social services. In time, I hope to do more. I know I have done more than this, but what I've mentioned, above, is the LEAST I can do.
What is the least you can do to bring back honeybees, harp seals, polar bears and women who love and trust men and men who love and trust women?
"Jesus" is coming...look busy.
