I agree that Karl Rove's credibility is somewhat near that of OJ Simpson...in fact, I can't wait for Rove to say that he's going to devote his life's mission to find the real killers of the economy. But really, lay off Canseco...while many have criticized him for whistle-blowing, quite a few of the names he dropped have come come forward post-Canseco and admitted steroid use. When Jose speaks, I always assume its because he wants to get paid, but I also don't dismiss him as a liar immediately (as I do OJ and Rove).
Back to topic...come on Salon...who cares what Rove thinks? Why is what he thinks news? He advises McCain, is paid by Fox, and now what he says is "news"? This is obvious...he wants to slam Obama and at the same time appear...you guesses it, balanced, so that when he slams Obama in the future, people can say that he's independent, he's not a McCain stooge, he just says what's on his mind, he's fair, he's balanced, and thanks Salon, you just helped him achieve this. I give Rove credit...in 2000, he helped GWB run a campaign as an outsider, despite the fact that his Dad was President 8 years prior...a mystical, ridiculous feat. And in 2004, he helped make a Vietnam War hero look like a punk-ass wuss and made a draft dodger look like GI Joe, again, an incredible feat. If I were running for President, you bet your ass I would want this guy on my team. But a journalist? An outside commentator? No, he can never be these things, so why is he treated as such?
Not only did Ari Shapiro say something about a "weird obsession with a sorority" (thank you, GG, for proving what a load that was), but when he and NPR sunk so low as to say "Ivins was cast as the murderer in a high school play", I had to laugh at how bad they have become. From now on, every unsolved case of cannibalism should have Anthony Hopkins as a prime suspect.
I don't remember all the details, but I remember that years ago, Kenneth Tomlinson was appointed chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and immediately denounced NPR as too liberal, saying it must become "balanced". I even seem to recall him saying that he wanted to make NPR more like cable-news shows, that had hippy liberal douche from the left vs. intolerant asshole from the right (he said left vs. right, but you get the point).
Ever since then, I noticed NPR news quickly turn from hard-hitting, intelligent journalism to the bucket-o-crap we see before us today (even sans Tomlinson). In their attempt to become neutral, all they do now is regurgitate whatever they are fed.
Sorry, I know this post was a little OT, but this is the state of the media today...oh yeah, and this is in no way meant to say Ivins is Innocent. I wouldn't know...all I know is that he theoretically COULD be the guy, he liked to drink, enjoyed porn, didn't want people to know he enjoyed porn, once dated a sorority girl, and he pissed off a social worker who loves driving drunk. When I get more evidence, I may be more judgmental about him.
Well put...I couldn't have said it better myself, and just want to second your thoughts.
Not everyone should be eligible to get an auto loan! Perhaps only 63% of people were approved for loans because only 63% of people can afford the loans they are applying for. This is called...get ready for it...the market working as it should. Two years ago I probably could have gotten a loan for a Cadillac Escalade (had I wanted one)...this shouldn't have been possible, but it was. Today, I would get laughed off the lot (as I should).
This got me thinking...what if the field goal attempt is blocked on third down and recovered by the kicking team? Would the kicking team retain possession with fourth down?
First off, don't quit. If you've got a steady paycheck and insurance, keep both as long as you can.
The best thing to do is to say no. Look, I've been there. You and I are the same personality type...overachiever, people-pleaser, I know, it's me too, I get it. I also had the same thing happen at my job...so many projects that it's impossible to get 1 project done. People are pissed nothing is happening. The best advice I got was this: just say no. If you can't take something on, say no. You know what happens? People will still respect your work and will still want you on projects, but they will also respect your time, schedule, and life.
Now, if you do say no to people, and your supervisors tell you to suck it up, that stress makes you stronger, and that someone else can do your job in a heartbeat, fine. Nod and smile. Work hard, keep your insurance, get pregnant, have the baby, and after your 6 week leave, quit. Contingent on many other factors, I know, but be real...you won't be able to handle 50-60 hour weeks with an infant/toddler anyways, so this is far from an ideal long-term place of employment if they do take this attitude.
One other thought...if you don't do it already, start running. Nothing takes away the stress of an 8-10 hour day (which you need to get down to starting tomorrow) like a 30-45 minute run. Sounds simple, but believe me, it's the best stress relief in the world, and all it takes is about $100 every 3 months for shoes. I know you don't have time now because of work, but like I said, starting tomorrow, you've got to leave work when it's light out.
