Not so surprising

I've thought about it some more, and the hypcorisy and mendacity really shouldn't surprise any of us.

These are people who are utterly convinced they're right and in the right, and that everyone else is wrong. Therefore anything they do is outside of criticism and justified. They're the elect, speaking God's truth and living lives blessed by God. The rest of us are just background noise at best, peons worthy of being crushed at worst.

Yeats comes to mind:

"The best lack all conviction, while the worst

Are full of passionate intensity"

Boring

This show has turned into a snooze fest. I've been watching for what seems like forever and am about ready to tune out.

Once Cylons started making human replicas, a lot of the drama leaked away, and worse, where are the battles between Cylons and Galactica?

Madame President's weary delivery is becoming emblematic of the entire show. It all feels logy, and you see that even in the way some episodes are filmed, as if this is HIGH ART. Hey, it's sci-fi fun, or supposed to be.

As for "frack"? The best thing about the show has always been those Cylon helmets with the red lights darting back and forth going zzzt--zzzt--zzzt--zzzt.

I take it back

I must have missed some episodes. I decided to give the new season a try after having been bored for a while by last season (though Final Cut was a welcome relief) and was blown away. The first episode had drama, conflict, good twists--especially the coming Infernal Affairs-type double-agentry. Battlestar rocks again.

Celebri-tease

At least he's reading!

He could be checking out the CNDB to find his favorite actor's nude scenes or the Celeb Archive for screen caps of same.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. . . .

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lowry

Unbelievable. He's obviously possessed by "Democrat" devils, or doing drugs, or it's some kind of sneak attack and he wants to weaken Democratic defenses or, or, or--

--or it's the truth.

A Republican speaking the truth?

The end times must be near.

Dispiriting

The Democrats once again show us they are hopeless, feckless, clueless. They're headed for the scrap heap like the Whigs.

Did it never occur to these Senators that meetings to plan their focused talking points and come out swinging with tag team questioning might have worked better than the shambling performance they offered? They needed, like the Republicans, to speak with one voice, relentlessly.

With the shamefully weak and wandering questions they asked, they don't deserve to have power. Worst of all, Biden seems to be suffering from a case of the wimps, a psychological problem that makes him curry favor, or perhaps lingering damage from his brain surgery. He wanders even more than one expects from a Senator, he bloviates ditto, and he is well on his way to living out the withering Churchillian assessment: "Each time he speaks he subtracts from the sum total of human knowledge."

"LUKE, USE YOUR AGRESSIVE FEELINGS!"

When I clicked on the article I expected a soundtrack: the Emperor's militaristic theme from "Star Wars."

Why not?

Israel's flag has gone from blue and white to gray and black, and the stripes are barbed wire. Barbed wire?

Why bother keeping the Star of David? Why not go all the way and substitute a Swastika? Not subtle enough? Hmmm. Maybe Darth Vader's helmet, or the Death Star. . . .

The Evil Empire is back.

Getting Ready to Bail

What is wrong with this show? They introduce a dazzling, scene-stealing dominatrix Admiral then kill her off. You don't even see the murder, it's reported to you. La-zy!

Lazier still is one of the most important battles of the entire series: the attack on the Resurrection ship. This happens in the background, practically, and takes no more than 5-10 minutes, with no sense of the stakes involved or where Galactia is going next. Worst of all, the show builds up Infernal Affairs tension with two targets for assassination then chickens out. Yeah, I enjoy the psychological hugger-mugger, but for all the involvement of the Cylons this might as well be happening in Palm Springs during Halloween with everyone running around in space costumes.

Hilarious

It's hilarious to see outrage here ("Clinton did it! He's a bad man!") matching the fake outrage offered by the White House. They of course know that they're on akey fakey ground, so once again, it's really Clinton's fault.

If it's illegal and Clinton authorized it, let's bring him to Congress and have him testify. Throw him in jail, go right ahead.

But don't stop there.

Does anyone in his right (as opposed to rightwing) mind believe that Clinton authorized thousands of illegal taps and data mining and all the rest of this Orwellian subversion masked as security?

If you want to hold Clinton responsible, then you must hold the Bush administration responsible, too. Clinton is not your Get Out of Jail Free card.

Thanking Family

Harley takes exception to Huffman thanking her "family" at Desperate Housewives but not thanking her "real family."

Of course she thanked the people she works with--these are the people who help her grow and learn as an actor and hone her craft. Family can inspire and console, but it's your peers who really help you grow in your profession.

The last time I was at an awards ceremony and thanked people for the award I received it was other writers who had inspired or helped me and my college writing teacher who was an amazing mentor. They were the ones who really made a difference. Does that make me Dad-phobic?

TERRIFYING

Wise and witty. But these lines are too mild, too Minnesota: "and yet he is fascinating. As the administration is these days, so resonant and believable."

Fascinating? Try terrifying.
