But They MIGHT Vote for McSame...

...if my 65-year-old mother is representative of these so-called PUMAs. She's a life-long Republican who doesn't think about the issues other than what she reads in People magazine. While she doesn't consider herself a feminist per-se, she fanatically supports ANY women involved with politics (i.e., she gushed about both Barbara Bush AND Hillary in the early 90s) regardless of their ideology, policies, etc. Case in point - she supported Bush from 2000 up until last year, when his popularity finally began to drop among the idiot 51% who voted for him in 2004. When Hillary entered the race, that was it - suddenly she was voting Democratic for the first time, but simply because there was a candidate with a vagina. I can't see her voting for Obama, unfortunately. Luckily she lives in a blue state where there's very little chance for McBush to win.

Here We Go Again...

...Pandering to the religious right - even if they're on the left. Ugh. When we will learn? SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE, hellloooo! Anyone remember that? Not after the last 7 years, apparently. It's absolutely disgusting to watch the religious grandstanding coming from ALL the candidates. I think my "favorite" part of this whole campaigning season was that debate where the candidates were actually asked to share their favorite bible verse... OH MY GOD!!!!! No pun intended. Might as well as them what color they think the easter bunny is and let them fight about that. That argument would have the EXACT SAME amount of credibility and value. And would be more interesting, at least to me. I give up.

Cognitive Dissonance Anyone?

McCain HAS to believe Vietnam was winnable, and worthwhile, and noble, etc. If he did not, it would invalidate the suffering that (we constantly hear about, over and over) that he went through as a soldier. His son is now in Iraq, another un"winnable", worthless war with no humanitarian or noble goal; another exercise in American hubris and hegemony. McCain must also convince himself that Iraq is necessary, good, etc. Or maybe he's just gaining so much from war profiteering that he wants the war to drag on and on, just like Bush Cheney et al.

@ DrPhillips

"It is curious that the media focused more on Helms' homophobic moments while lightly skipping over the repeated anti-black bigotry that benighted his public life."

That's because it's still socially acceptable to overtly discrimnate against gays and lesbians, but racism has got to be a bit more subtle nowdays. Ugh.

Glad that nasty bigot is dead.

The Cover Does Matter...

...because, as many of you have commented, yes, it is a good thing for a semi-literature reader to pick up what they assume is another chick-lit book and instead find something with substance. Great, wonderful, etc. However, if that something with substance is packaged in a pink cover with legs in stilettos with a briefcase for a skirt, readers who are looking for substance would never pick that book up AT ALL. I know I wouldn't. That means many of us are missing out on Svutlana's books (which I would probably enjoy) and who knows how many others. So it does matter - whether or not it's the MOST pressing issue for Broadsheet to cover is not the point. Of course it's not. However, it is a legitimate issue, as it is yet another example of women being infantilized in order to be sold more shit.

Zoloft, zoloft,

ZOLOFT.

Then, a month later, new therapist. Give it some time, and find a new one if s/he doesn't do it for you.

That said, I hope you are lucky enough to have health care that will cover either of these things!!

Good luck to you.

Original article: What's next for Edwards?

Oh, GAWD

Here we go! Can't wait for Faux "News" fair and balanced coverage of this. Thanks a lot Edwards... couldn't keep it in your pants long enough to NOT FUCK OVER the Democrats yet again.

Original article: Edwards admits to affair

@ RandomUserName...

...who wrote:

"Give the guy a break. We are all flawed in our own little ways, his flaw just happens to be a very common one."

Sure, it's between him and his (cancer-ridden, oh, excuse me, in remission *as if that makes it better*) wife - not our business. Just like I said about Bill Clinton. HOWEVER, why can't these guys ever (EVER!!) keep it in their pants when they are in office, or running for office? The Dems need all the help they can get this year, and this, guess what, DOES NOT HELP.

So it's not a bunch of sanctimonious, self-righteous outrage... it's just exasperation and disgust.

I think we're all allowed a bit of that.

Remember Harriet Miers?

This is just the sequel. The evil, biased librul media will so terrorize poor, poor Sarah - she of the squeaky-clean family values - that she'll just "have to drop out of the race to spare her family and her party any more pain". Party, I mean Country, first, right?

Then Cranky McSame's handlers will introduce the old white guy that they planned on running as VP all along (Mitt? Joe? Voldemort? Satan?) and all the PUMAs and fence-sitters and just plain stooopid 'mericuns will feel bad, so bad for poor, poor Sarah and vote for McCain against that black feller with the funny last name.

It's just like that whole Harriet Miers debacle. Nothing these people do is not planned out! They may be greedy fascists but they are not stupid. Of course they vetted Sarah Palin - they vetted the crap out of her. This is all planned out. There's no way it's not!
