Well, if Obama is elected, at least we won't have a "humble" foreign policy, as both Bush and McCain have promised. -- Derbig Mooser
Hold tight to those fantasies of yours Derbig.

Nixon Got a Raw DealThirty-plus years later, we find out he was right after all: If the president of the United States does it, that means it's not illegal. A man ahead of his time. -- surlawda
Good point. If I was Nixon I would be pissed. Somewhere Nixon's head is exploding.
However, for those very frustrated folks out there who are ready to do something else, take heart and remember that very often the first task facing the revolutionary is to make conditions worse in order to rally support for radical change. Consider how effective ‘R’ is at increasing American discontent.-- Altec Lansing
I have voted exclusively for Democratic presidential candidates in the past. I was planning to write in Kucinich this time around. After watching Rockefeller on C-Span today I am right there with you. I will be voting for John McCain in the hopes of bringing this thing to a head sooner rather than later. I was planning to vote 3rd party (Green if possible) for congress. Now, Republican party ticket.
Because, you know, if you don't win at first, there's no sense in continuing to organize and exert influence on the party and its candidates. It will never pay off in the long run. Just ask the unions.-- Amity
There is no sense in organizing to exert influence on an entrenched, corporatist party who sells out the people and the constitution. There is absolutely no sense in it. It will not pay off in the long run. The Unions didn't go to the corporate headquarters and try to convince executive vice presidents to be committed to their cause. They didn't beg the bosses to stop screwing them. They organized themselves outside of the shadow of the entrenched interests.
This battle is lost. You are either going to have a faux liberal sell-out or a cranky, old, warmongering nut-job. You are going to have your Webb's... you know those guys that the netroots worked so hard to elect who are already screwing us? It's over. The Democratic party has shown its true colors and they are going to fight against the interests of the people, tooth and nail the whole way. And you know what? They are going to win too. You are not going to bring about change from within that party. YOU. ARE. NOT.
If you are going to put time and effort into organizing to exert influence why wouldn't you start with a base of people who actually agree with you and are committed to changing the corrupted system? Think long term. Start from scratch. Start with a clean slate. Draft Kucinich away from the Dems. They've treated him like dogshit for years. He can't possibly still believe in the Dem brand. Get Nader on board. Go after Ron Paul if you think you can keep his nutty economic policies in check. Go after Greens. Go after anti-establishment politicians and other true left-libertarians. Try and convince Feingold. Draft Greenwald. Just please quit wasting everyone's time with the Dem brand simply because it already exists.
Not only that, but it's a puerile red herring, completely impertinent to the conversation we're having. We were talking about Americans having an immature political worldview. Then you invoke, out of thin air, an emotive and populist issue as a means of belittling a critical voice. But you're sooo far from being a reactionary and partisan political sheep...? Yeh, right. -- jmcdsf
Just a friendly suggestion here but I would just ignore Kitt. He is the Lennie Small of the UT comment section. Albeit without the innocence.
"Go after Ron Paul if you think you can keep his nutty economic policies in check."I see this sort of sentiment expressed frequently, mostly by LWM and his harem, and never once have I seen anyone provide any kind of explanation for the opinion. It seems to be one of those "if you're a smart liberal lefty like me, you know what I'm talking about...wink wink, nudge nudge." -- willbehuman
Willbe,
Thanks for the shout out.
If you are looking for information on Libertarian economic philosophy there are plenty of explanations and critiques on the web to be had. If, on the other hand, you are Libertarian and a strident Ron Paul supporter and you are asking because, as you said, you identify with my posts and want me to explain my views on Libertarian economic philosophy so that you can, in turn, explain to me why I have it all wrong... well, that will only lead to irritation for the both of us. I know that is a bit dismissive and I am sorry for that but I have been down that road many, many times and, at this point, I have neither the patience nor the energy to go through that discussion again.
I am sorry if that disappoints you. I really do appreciate your post and the effort.
Take care.
