Payoff?

Here’s a payoff for being a real patriot from truemajority.org -- RMP

No offense RMP but that "payoff" and 50 cents wouldn't buy me a coke down at local gas station...

If that's the payoff that calls and letters produce I think I'll take a pass and try something that might make a difference.

Susan

RMP --- standing O ... applause, applause, applause ...

Outstanding effort sir!

-- susan sunflower

What? What am I missing? We are actually applauding ad messages as accomplishments? I admit it is nice of them but we have veered off into la-la land if we consider that a payoff. "Atta-boys" (and girls) is what we are after? That's now considered a big win?

I seriously feel like I am going insane.

Impeachment

Oh. Wait. I think there was a strong demand for impeachment from the people. What ever happened with that?

-- heru-ur

It was unserious and not within the realm of what's real and possible. GG said so himself.

Oooh.. this should be interesting.

More Trouble in Obamaland

Ten minutes ago, the New York Times reported that Obama will be "refining" his Iraq withdrawal timeline. Forget about the pesky Fourth Amendment. We have a runaway train on our hands. Again. -- Douvie

Have any type of link to that?

re: Refining statement

"I have always said that I will listen to corporate/MIC interests. I’ve always said that the pace of withdrawal would be dictated by the safety and security of the big oil companies and the need to maintain stability," Obama told reporters in Fargo, N.D.

Well... that isn't exactly what he said but it is what my eyes told my brain when I read it in print.

For folks who are principally cell phone users, CREDO is an option. Of course, if the New and Improved FISA Bill™ passes, it won't make any difference who your telecommunications provider is.

-- bystander

Unless I am mistaken (entirely possible) CREDO is not a spy free alternative and never was. My understanding is that they just rent the airwaves from Sprint. Working Assets puts a "progressive" face on in that they donate a certain percentage to supposedly progressive causes but I believe the reality is that they aren't much more than a middle man with many of their services. My girlfriend has one of their VISA cards and it is really just a Bank of America card.

Correct me if I am wrong of course but I don't think CREDO is a legitimate alternative.

For you green techies out there, San Francisco's Working Assets Wireless, is changing its name to CREDO Mobile to better reflect its progressive identify.

The niche mobile service, which resells Sprint access, has been a key part of Working Assets...

Problem is there is a difference between sharing and reselling. Credo isn't sharing. It isn't that ambiguous. They are just Sprint relabeled. It probably doesn't really matter either way. Do you really think BushCo didn't tap into Qwests services somehow? I have a very hard time believing that a simple "no" would stop them. If the NSA can tap or otherwise suck up foreign communications overseas, on systems they have no granted access to, why wouldn't they be able to get into Qwest's system also?

Sorry. I know it is disheartening.

Jim

If that isn't what you had in mind, and the FISA bill passes, just learn to overwhelm the system, learn to use keywords in all emails and phone conversation. Dirty bomb, Nuclear, jihad, praise be to Allah, death to Israel, Anthrax, Allahu Akbar, etc makes it impossible for the government to filter the good from the bad. -- Jim

Thanks for the link. I will check it out. I know nothing about encryption but is it really true that encrypted communications are safe from prying eyes and ears? Again I know nothing about it but I have a sneaking suspicion that the govt has a back door to deal with it somehow. Does it use keys? Nevermind. No need to educate me. I will try and read up on it.

As for the key words/phrases... I haven't begun doing that yet but, for a good while now, I have ended all of my phone calls with (and have a permanent email signature that reads along the lines of) "fuck Bush and the NSA." I had to apologize to my friends and family and explain why I was doing it and, of course, it freaks out the teenager answering the phones at the local pizza place but, hey, waddya gonna do?

macgupta

There are pages and pages of posts from people heart-sick about FISA. Almost all of them are worth reading. There's a link to one in the signature.

-- macgupta

How the heck do you find the "pages and pages of posts?" I want to read some of them but for the life of me I can only seem to see the 3 most recent "blog" entries displayed on the bottom left of the main group page. Lil help? Do you have to be a member first to have access to all of the posts? I can't find them.

juliebird

well, if not the 4th, then the 2nd amnedment

is still in tact. Maybe we should all get handguns and march on DC to celebrate our newly clarified 2nd amendwment rights. If I remember the recent SCOTUS decision, citizens are allowed to defend life and home/property with a gun. A piece of that Constitution is mine, and I'm heart sick at seeing it treated as something "quaint" by a bunch of robber-barons. -- juliebird

I love your spirit but I can't convince anyone to do the marching without the guns. They would rather buy ads.

By all means, let's get to work doing it but let's try it without the guns first and see how that goes.
