Massive realignment?

Either the 2008 elections produce a massive realignment or else we need a new American Revolution, that Jefferson warned us we might need every generation. -- macgupta

I am really curious about statements along these lines.

What would ever lead you to believe there could possibly be a "massive realignment?" How is that even possible given the election choices we are presented with and the completely corrupt and corporative system we are operating in?

What does "massive alignment" mean to you? What are you envisioning when you say that? Who would bring about this massive realignment? What would it look like? Is it just a matter of overwhelming Democratic control of government? Is that what you consider to be massive realignment? If so, how could that possibly ever be considered a massive realignment?

Are you suggesting it is possible that Obama and the Democratic congressional leadership are not really what they appear to be... not what say they are? Not what they have proven over and over again that they are? They are keeping there powder dry? What fundamental (massive changes) would occur as a result of Democrats holding the reins of power?

I guess I am asking all of this because I truly cannot understand how anyone could possibly believe, given the overwhelming evidence to the contrary, that simply electing more or "more and better" Democrats = "massive realignment."

I see this type of thinking as completely divorced from reality, either spawned by ignorance or willful stupidity. It is so maddening to me, that when I see it or hear it, it makes me want to set my hair on fire and jump off the nearest cliff.

Impeachment

Stop the Presses!!!

McCain's a liar! -- omooex

Eh... cut Glenn some slack omooex. He just wants Obama elected so that he can go back to doing whatever it was he was doing (constitutional lawyering I believe) before he realized that Republicans were evil. Can't really blame him I suppose. I know I would love to go back to my blissful ignorance of a decade ago.

Anyway.. more from me about impeachment. A good rebel diary at Kos (not all of the Kossacks are idiots)...

Satire is dead

@ Amity

(I bet most liberals don't already know that that's Obama's middle name — they've all been suckered!)

WOW! Really??!? Don't tell me... you're going to surprise us all by noting he's also half-black, aren't you? -- blueraven

Amity -- satire is dead my friend. Unless you are a known satirist such as Colbert it just doesn't work. When you have to explain it constantly, to decent and intelligent people, well... You keep at it if you like but, at this point, there is literally nothing you can say that is over the top enough for it to be deciphered correctly by even the most intelligent member of the reality based community. It just ends up coming off as mainstream wingnuttery.

Sad innit?

wingnut trolls

I think UT is experiencing some of those wingnut trolls that McCain has employed via his campaign site. Remember? He threw up the Batshit Insane Signal a few weeks ago? Well I think we are seeing some of the Batshit insane that answered the call.

I will never understand why you all choose to engage them. I mean, other than to call them the derogatory names that they so rightly deserve -- in that case I am all for it.

PDA

Ok, well since you (and anyone else for that matter) have time to "while away" perhaps you would consider following some links, signing some petitions, making some calls, etc. if you haven't already of course.

Hopefully that good old "letter writing campaign" spirit of the UT activists hasn't gone the way of the Dodo. Glenn may not deem it as important as ensuring that everyone know that McCain is a liar or as worthy as an ad campaign targeting one corrupt Democratic congressidiot, but that doesn't mean the UT activists can't get their action on, right?

Time is running out so we must work together to spread the message and apply pressure.

First, please encourage your friends and family members to sign up at WexlerWantsHearings.com – as it will allow us to keep in touch with you and speak to a wider audience. If you haven't yet put in your phone and address, please sign up again, as we will be doing telephone town halls in the near future.

Second, call your representative and urge them to support Impeachment hearings.

Finally, contact newspapers, news stations, and your favorite bloggers and urge them to report on this movement. We need to keep Impeachment a significant news story until the Democratic leadership sees the value in it.

Kitt

I got it. And so did most everyone else on here. The fact that you don't know that..."Sad, innit?" -- Kitt

You "got it" Kitt because you had previous knowledge that Amity is a sometime satirist. The fact that you are not intelligent enough (a fact that almost everyone here knows) to realize that you wouldn't have seen it for satire had you not already known, is, indeed, sad.

Tough guy?

Addled, I'll use one of your beloved cliches: "It goes without saying"... what a stupid, 'tough guy' reply you have made. I wonder if you are so tough and strong and boisterous in person.

Hey, Addled? Is Major joking? -- Kitt

That is another thing that is sad. The fact that you do not have it within you quit while you are behind. You simply cannot stop from embarrassing yourself further.

I used to think it was kinda cute and I admired your damn-the- torpedoes pluck to a certain extent, but I have lost interest and now just find it sad.
