@adnoto: what is your question of me?? My premise is not about Glenn's opinion but his failure to disclose his inherent bias....
This is what I am asking you to address:
@GThrasherI am honestly trying to follow your reasoning - if I understand your views correctly, the fact of your skin color puts you into a conflict of interest (as you have put it) in terms of commenting on, or analyzing, Jim Crow laws, civil rights laws, etc.
Accordingly, you have voluntarily disclosed the fact of your skin color (and, it seems, your race) in order that we might discount or ignore your views on any laws that address racial equality or any laws that discriminate based on race or color. You are signaling that you lack objectivity on such matters and this should properly affect our view of any opinions you hold, or comments you make, with respect to such laws.
Is that correct? -- The Reality Kid
Reality Kid might have intended to be a snarky ass but I don't think so. Either way, he has a point. Given your belief in Glenn's "inherent bias," should we then discount or take with a huge grain of salt anything that you have might have to say on "black" issues because you are black?
@adnoto: if I was taking an activist position as a Black person I would disclose my role andallow others to know upfront my inherent conflict of interest..of course unlike Glenn I would have no problem advising people I am a Black activist... -- GThrasher
Ok...wow. Well, then I guess the answer is yes. So that is what's most important then? Full disclosure? Not the message or the analysis... just the disclosure? People can't decide on the merits of a statement, idea or analysis without knowing where it comes from? There is no fact or truth without full disclosure? Only "inherently biased" opinions?
You are losing me my friend. I am always ready to take on the establishment perpetuating bozo's that can be found commenting at UT but I can't get to where you are on this issue. It just doesn't ring true or make any logical sense. It seems to me you are just spoiling for a fight where there isn't a rational one to be had.
davy sugarman gone black? -- totallyblase
Well if he has then he has had some knock-down drag-outs with himself. Check out Thrashers "letters" history. He doesn't seem to care for Sugarman anymore than most of us do.
@adnoto: I think ypou are fiannly coming around..the only issue for me all day in here has been Glenn's failure to disclose he is a gay activist the other nonsense is from Glenn's apologists in here who are offended that I would dare question St.Glenn.. -- GThrasher
"Finally coming around?" You really don't have any idea who you are talking to do you? Well, that certainly doesn't matter. Look man, your general anger or bitterness or whatever it is that is driving your inane position regarding today's topic has you looking like a fool -- even to those of us that are generally angry, outraged and bitter. If you are going to use your anger at least use it arguing something worthwhile. If you do, you might actually stumble upon a few allies. Somehow though, I get the feeling you really aren't looking for any.
If he had been upfront and revealed at the beginning that he was in fact an intellectually-challenged, logic-deficient, Black Activist, it would have saved everyone from having to figure it out for themselves. -- Frankly, my dear
Yes, that was a shame. I so wanted to give the guy the benefit of the doubt but it turns out it was all pretty much a giant waste of time. I don't want to cause offense here but I am guessing that there is a serious lack of racial diversity found in the UT comments section and I think it would be beneficial to hear some other voices.
I am actually very curious about the racial makeup of UT readers. I wish there was an option for polls here, that readers could participate in anonymously if they wanted. I also think it would be interested to see the age ranges.
THIS will make (some of) you want to throw up -- bamage
Hillary Clinton is a cancer. Not only to the Democratic party but to the nation period. I am hoping her actions fracture and destroy the Democratic party as it is now. Perhaps there would then be a chance to get some of the better folks like Feingold, Kucinich, Waxman and maybe even Obama (if he changes his tune on some things) to head up a third party. Let the Democrats and the Republicans fight it out to see who can be the most evil.
I really hope she cries havoc and takes her fight to the convention floor.
