Who perpetrated a massive hoax on the American people and on the world on 5th February 2003?
[Read the article: Hillary's time of troubles]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Well, it wasn't Hillary Clinton, although to read some of the posts on this site one would easily think it was. The man who addressed a plenary session of the UN Security Council on that date was General Colin Powell, head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (US). He urged military action against Saddam Hussein, stating "There can be no doubt that Saddam Hussein has biological weapons and the capability to rapidly produce man, many more.." General Powell also insisted that Saddam Hussein was trying to obtain key components for nuclear weapons. That a man in his position, a highly respected man, could be duped with so much flim-flam that he was prepared to ask for a global push against the Saddam regime is truly incredible. Whether he was duped or not is for historians to decide but many thousands have died as a result of the reckless invasion of Iraq in March 2003. British, Spanish and soldiers from other countries have died in Iraq and the entire country has been subject to rapine. Who could not believe the word of the American head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff? There were dissidents in the British media and at least one of P.M. Tony Blair's Cabinet Ministers, the brilliant Robin Cook, resigned. A scientist drawn into the whole murky business (David Kelly) committed suicide. If Americans are looking for villains in relation to the Iraq War, the "usual suspects" are easily named but Colin Powell escapes scot free. He did his best to convince the United Nations but the French and, I think, the Germans were'nt buying it. Because they would not go along with the travesty, the French were branded "cheese-eating surrender-monkeys" but I guess the French don't care what Americans think of them.
At the urging of a few Obama supporters on this site - and their tone was disdainful - I checked out Senator Obama on foreign policy. I read that his first major speech on foreign policy was given last April (April 2007) at a Chicago Council on Global Affairs. I then read that one of his objectives is "marshalling a GLOBAL effort to secure, destroy and stop the spread of weapons of mass destruction". With this, I came to the conclusion that Senator Obama must be living in cloud-cuckoo-land. After the way the world was deceived just five years ago it's highly improbable that any "global effort" will ever be instigated again at America's behest. People were tricked, Americans and others alike, and there's no getting away from that.

Xrandudu Hutman, what a charming name !
[Read the article: Hillary's time of troubles]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I thin you imagine that there's something sinister about the fact that, a mere few days ago, General Colin Powell was mentioned in the international press vis-a-vis his speech to the UN. It was the fifth anniversary of that speech and anniversaries tend to bring back memories. My typing still isn't great but I'm well-informed thanks to Britain's Channel 4. even our own national newscaster and many good newspapers. Journalism is still quite an honourable profession in many parts of the world, even if that has to exclude America with the media leading you any which way it likes. Why are you so prickly anyway? Are you denying that Colin Powell tried to coax as many countries as possible into invading a country which had NOT attacked the US. I'm finding it harder and harder to understand all of this dissimulation.
