  • Someone called Person said that my ancestors were enslaved.

    This so crazy that I'm baffled. My ancestors never left Ireland. They were enslaved allright to backbreaking mountainy farming and to the strictures of a repressive Church. Hold on a minute, did any of my ancestors enslave St. Patrick? I wouldn't put it past them if they could get away with it. You do know that when Patrick was a boy he was taken to Ireland as a slave? I think he was taken from off the Welsh coast. This is really shocking. Hillary Clinton has Welsh ancestors and I hope she doesn't know about Patrick's abduction, although he was Roman Welsh.

    "Piece of Cake" you won't have to put up with me much longer. I talk a lot too and thank the Supreme Being for the energy. I'm getting bored anyway and I hope you all bliss out on Super Tuesday. I'll hang on here for a day or two because I can't resist being love-bombed. The days are getting longer here and I'm hoping to have a garden-room where I can look at the birds and all the lovely trees and plants that I'm so fond of.

  • Anonymous @ l:47tells me that he/she has been using the royal "We"!

    You silly person, I thought the USA was a republic. I don't bow and scrape to any royalty, least of all you. I'll answer your questions although you've tried to wesel away from mine. The first time I heard about Senator Obama was some time before Christmas and the European papers latched on to his ancestry which was what made the Democratic campaign different from the one four years ago. You probably don't know that, from a global perspective, Americans ar NOW regarded as hypocrites as the invasion of Iraq is seen as having little or nothing to do with the spreading of democracy and everything to do with oil. Obama seemed interesting in January. Obviously someome with imperial aspirations as you seem to have knows about Janus, the two-faced god. You. of course, are the complete hypocrite, coming on here with your contemptuous words about my name, intelligence (to lose your wits does not mean to lose a sense of humour) while masquerading as a supprter of the man whose purported mission is to unite people of all races, religions, opinions....I've definitely got under YOUR skin for reasons best known to yourself, with your delusions of grandeur (royal "We" tra-la-la). A troll is a Scandinavian imp with wild hair, as far as I'm concerned, even though you may try to hi-jack the real meaning. "American Dream" is it? I'll say no more because your own words reveal everything about you.

  • A vignette of America

    It's late now and I've had enough of the vindictiveness that seems to characterise most discourse here. It's so BORING reading about victimhood all the time. Every illusion I ever had about "straight shooters", plain-speaking Americans has gone overboard with all those Anonymous people who become incensed at any direct question and use weasel words instead of reasoned argument. Quite candidly, I'm glad that the Uk is our neighbouring island as there is less bombast and a greater sense of decency there. I just remembered today that my mother had a grand-aunt who is buried in Chicago. I don't know much about her except that she was a housekeeper for some family involved in meat-packing. I wouldn't go to the USA for a holiday (vacation) even if it was paid for as there is too much rancour there, too much venality and you take yourselves much too seriously. If I had a child of school-going age, I'd want that child to learn Mandarin. China is the coming country.

  • Anonymous @ 4:2l a.m. I sympathise with you at the lack of poetry in this campaignbu

    but I have a suggestion for Hillary when next she meets Obama. A smattering of Shakespeare is hard to beat, although those who are jealous of his genius try to disparage him as a "DWM". Here goes:

    Here's flowers for you;

    Hot lavender, mints, savory, marjoram.

    The marigold that goes to bed with the sun

    And with him rises weeping; these are flowers

    Of middle summer and I think they are given

    To men of middle age. You're very welcome.

    There are two points in this. Despite all the hype, Barack Obama has passed his 45th birthday and is now in earlyish middle age. Nevertheless, the pompous pundits call him "Young" because that makes the mostly male gasbags feel good about themselves. The garrulous gaggle is not exclusively male because you've had Maureen Dowd "in extremis" babbling about Barack's pulchritude, princeling-ness and even going into geyser mode when writing about Barack's "feminine" side. It's not unknown for a woman of Maureen Dowd's vintage to have yearnings for a "toy boy".

    I've just popped in for a minute or two and I hope my musings have proved "inspirational". as that sort of thing seems to be all the rage. Ciao!

    Who is Matt Drudge, I began to wonder, after noticin that every picture of Hillary Clinton, in what is stuffily called a Report, was an unflattering one. I also noticed that everything selected for inclusion on the primaries was slanted in favour of the male candidate for the Dems nomination. Out of curiosity, I went to Wikipedia and what I read was interesting, even creepy. There was nothing about pulling wings off flies but all the other elemrnts are there. This is the unpopular boy, the nerdy outsider, who found that he could make money (lots of it) from scandal, regardless of who got hurt in the process. He probably blames his Momma for his oddness but that's beside the point. He is reclusive but the public needs to know more about this person with media-power. It's time for him to get a dose of his own medicine and see how he likes it.
