  • How is Barack Obama related to Dick Cheney?

That's the really interesting bit and it's being ignored. When asked about it, Senator Obama made a merry quip and the matter rested. In the end, the whole of the world will probably know what Obama has for breakfast and the genealogists will be busy at work. Has he inherited any of that Cheney ruthlessness from a common ancestor? That's the provocative question that should be asked even if you want to shy away from it. The attempted crushing of dissent on what is a delicate topic is not really good in a free society. Europeans may be more chary about mass exultation and mesmeric speeches than Americans, for historical reasons.

  • It's so funny!

Anonymous (l:l2 a.m) expatiates on the meaninglessness of race but seeks to identify herself through it, "I'm a white woman". Why is birth-date considered important? Nobody can claim any credit or blame for that except, perhaps, the couple who came together to produce you. Self-defeating arguments are silly but when mixed with portentousness they make a mockery of everything. What's next? A description of noses, hair texture and so on? Melanin is a pretty word but melanoma isn't.

  • Michael Jackson might be able to sort out this dilemma

The UK newspaper "The Daily Mail" is showing pictures on today's edition of Michael Jackson and his children in Las Vegas. The eldest is ten and the girl is nine. Their mother is Debbie Rowe. This might be a complicated story but the two elder children, who can be plainly seen, look happy and seem to be at ease with themselves.

FIRST of all you need a humour transplant. It is now almost mid-day here and the country is not Eire but the Republic of Ireland. The "nun" stuff was a flippant explanation, as well as a bit of stereotyping, which would not be taken seriously by anyone with half a brain. Since you know so little about my country, I'll have to inform you (Again!) that your government is allowed to use Shannon Airport in Ireland (not Eire, sweetheart) to facilitate flights to and from Iraq. I suppose you know, since you oerceive yourself to be such a fount of knowledge, that the Us is stirring things up with Vladimir Putin by planning to put US rocket launchers into Eastern Europe, that "extraordinary rendition" is global. But you would know all that, wouldn't you, seeing that perfectly ordinary questions about an unknown (outside America) candidate are regarded as slanderous by you. Dubya Bush was notoriously insular before elected to the Presidency and has made a complete "dog's dinner" of American foreign policy. I don't ask questions about Hillary Clinton because I know all I want to know about her. John McCain is forthright in his statements on foreign policy but Barack Obama seems vague and that is worrying for anyone living on this planet, even an insignificant person like me, living on a small island in the Atlantic. You'd want to watch it, Anonymous (I'm posting under my own name as I'm fortunate to live in a free society) because it's people like you who relyon virulence and distortion who brought Germany to a tragic fate in the mid-twentieth century. All questions are slanders, four legs good/two legs bad, the "Thought Police"...Maybe you should read some of George Orwell's prescient novels instead of coming on here with your inane accusations. I have to answer the phone now and hope the Republicans play such a gentlemanly game that it will be roses, roses all the way (without thorns, of course).

  • Correction

"perceive" not "oerceive". I'm a hasty person and write fast. That'sbecause I'm from "Eire", of course.

That is not a question because your personalised insults show exactly what you are. Please get an education. McCain is the anglicised form of a Gaelic name; in Ireland it is often simply Kane and derives from Malin Head and that area. In Gaelic, the name is Cathain ("cath" means a battle but I won't be bothered explaining how to pronounce it to someone of such invincible ignorance as you). I don't like bullies. I'm a bit of an expert on identifying them since I was educated by old-style nuns who believed firmly in corporal punishment for any student who was called "insubordinate" as I was. I don't need or want to give you any personal details since you seem to be the classic sneak. As far as the Celtic Tiger goes, it was our admittance to the European Community, with its economic benefits, that really helped Ireland. Yes, my ccharming detractor, Bill Clinton was popular in Ireland because he came as a peace-maker to that part of the island which is still part of the UK. Now you can scrabble around in your headquarters (pretty obvious) to see if you can find something else to throw at me but I'm still standing. I have a lot to do this Saturday afternoon but if you think you can get the better of me yo're more foolish than you first seemed. You obviously can't think "outside the box". I have a legitimate interest (I'm a human being) in the American election, There have been several books on Hillary Clinton - I think Carl Bernstein's was the latest one - but all that there is on Obama is what he's written himself (or what's been ghost-written for him). I get it. All questions that don't lead to the burnishing of his halo are "verboten". If you're an example of a typical Obama supporter, then all I can say is "May God help America".

What a pathetic response! How many of you did it take to concoct the rigmarole. How long did it take you (plural) to examine my previous posts. You insult my name, you think you're insulting my religion with your sly refernce to a female Pontiff but that just makes me laugh. The only Hallelujah" I like is that composed in Dublin by the music composer, Handel. Let's see how low you can go!
