  • Vegas baby!

[Read the article: America's water war]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

We have been living in a virtual state of denial for decades. When air conditioning was invented, places which previously had been unhabitable for most people became boom towns. I've been to Vegas once - it's Disneyland for adults and it was fun, but I couldn't help but think to myself: this place will soon be a ghosttown. Mad Max anyone?

I live in the L.A. area: this is a semi-desert region well on its way to becoming a all-desert area. It's not meant to be a home to millions of people - they had to steal water from the Owens Valley and pipe it in to Los Angeles. (the film Chinatown deals with this subject).

We are in deep trouble and are only seeing the beginning of our worst nightmares. You don't have to be a prophet, an expert, a Rep or a Dem. Anyone with half-a-brain can put two and two together and picture a future with severe water shortages.

The late Senator Paul Simon of Illinois was talking and writing about this more than a decade ago. I remember reading a book of his and thinking, ouch. I started writing a screenplay which had scenarios that we are seeing now: states fighting each other in court over water rights. I got so bummed out and put the script away. Now, going to court is still fairly civil. What happens when "the well" runs dry? People won't be going to court then - they will take what they need to survive. You'll see more folks buying guns to protect themselves and their families. You'll see the poor going after middleclass people and wealthy people, owners of 4-7 bathroom mansions and their pools. It's going to get very ugly.

We can live without oil but we cannot exist without water.

[Read the article: Tigers don't belong in zoos]

I haven't followed the latest developements in the story, but if it is true that the two surviving men taunted the tiger it's a shame they didn't get eaten. They must have brains the size of walnuts and worse, they are cowards for taking advantage of being "a safe distance" from a captive animal.

Animals never kill out of malice, only when hungry or taunted.

Human beings are sick little critters who have messed up this world because of greed, hate, and stupidity. I hope the human species becomes extinct and animals will once again have the planet to themselves.

  • Trolling no more

[Read the article: Anonymous no more]

I have at times used the option of posting anonymously although nothing outrageous. I always felt slightly dirty afterwards so I in fact applaud Salon for doing away with that option.

In print edtions of news papers readers who write letters to the editor are required to have their real name and city printed with their letter. It still gets ugly at times, but at least it's not done anonymously.

Trolling has gotten out of hand. For particularly disturbing examples go to Craigslist.org and read the posts in the Rant and Raves section. Racist, sexist, hateful posts galore thta make the letters to Salon look like flowery love letters.

I think regular folks - the working poor and the so-called middle class - are so fed up with so much. Some of their frustration is very valid and venting anonymously on the web probably acts as a pounching bag. I shudder to think of how many more violence there'd be if people didn't have the option. On the other hand that option is now being abused as many freedoms often end up being.

I meant to say "how many more violent incidents".

  • Yep!

[Read the article: Does Obama's baritone give him an edge?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Straight women are usually attracted to men who are physcially masculine and that includes their voice. The type: Harrison Ford, Robert Redford, George Clooney.

Personally, I place a huge emphasis on a man's voice. I don't want sleezy or cheesy, but there are certain male voice that just get make me weak in the knees. I'm a sucker for commercial airline pilots when they do their little "This is your captain speaking". Fly me to the moon, baby!

Certain occupations that require brawn usally have a large number of hunks: firefighters are a prime example. Not too many of those guys have squeaky voices.

It's terribly unfair, but this article is right on the nail: nobody wants to hear "Mom" yelling at us for 4-8 years which is a big reason why Hillary is losing ground. I pay great attention to a person's voice and I cannot get past her cold impersonal drone of a voice. And when she goes "shrill" it's like a nail on a blackboard.

It's a big taboo because he's half-black, but Obama is a sexy man! His white mother had the hots for Harry Belafonte and was clearly attracted to Obama's father for this reason - another hush-hush issue that I haven't read about so far, but Obama himself has touched upon it.

Hillary is about as sexy as wet toast and in a culture where image is a huge factor in politics, she has a big disadvantage, in terms of voice and sex appeal.
