@groundzero

"I'll bring up whatever I want to,whenever I want to."

Obviously you are free to make an ass of yourself by bringing up "whatever I want". Wether or not it is logical or makes sense is another matter. Your question to GG is fucking stupid. That's the point- you dumb shit.

@xititjur99

It's just typical wingnut bait & switch were literally anything Obama is for, they are against.

Yep. It's absurd at this point. Obama quite literally cannot do one thing without an faux uproar on the right. Every single thing he does is an affront to them- personally!

It's really quite amazing- because cut through all the pointless nonsense about meaningless bullshit that the right attacks Obama on and there are few differences between him and Bush. But they can't acknowledge that. They will not acknowledge that when all is said and done- Obama has done very little of substance that they can complain about and has carried on if not expanded certain policies under their Dear Leader Bush. They don't want to see the real Obama. They want to see a fantasy Obama boogeyman they have wholly created to scare themselves with. But on a level just below the surface- they know they are fooling themselves.

I hardly think Greenwald needs me to defend him but . . .

first off- calling someone a coward doesn't mean you are calling yourself a hero.

But anyway- when Glenn Greenwald starts calling for endless elective wars on the other side of the globe against hapless third worlders then you can bring up his military record or lack of one.

American Narcissism

Thanks for the link to "sadlyno". I would add that we see this "American nationalist narcissism" whenever an American dies at the hands of a "terrorist" like the Fort Hood massacre.

Apparently- whenever Americans are killed- even just one- by a terrorist- "Islam" must poor out into the streets in a mass orgy expression of grief and anger to denounce this incident or that means that "Islam is silent" on such violence.

Hundreds of iraqis and Afghanis can be killed every month by US forces and the macho men of the American right are wholly silent if not cheering on such killings- but if a few Americans are killed then we are treated to an obscene spectacle of bathotic faux grief in which it is demanded that "Islam" (All Muslims are reduced on the right to the singular monolith appellation of "Islam") also pay as much attention to the far more important killings of Americans or else that is proof of their "silence".

It's really quite appalling.

BTW:

Happy Thanksgiving all.

Great Catch

I always have mixed feelings clicking onto to this site. One side of me can't wait to read the latest nugget and the other side of me gets upset for not having posted on it first. GG always seems three steps ahead of everyone else.

Great Saturday morning coffee post. Delicious.

A little good news is a good thing

It is nice to see a little sunlight through the clouds every once in a while. It is precisely little victories like this that keep me interested because one can only take so many defeats and so much bad news before they just throw up their hands in disgust and retreat into their own little immediate surroundings.

@jaazee

Your cowardice is appalling and your bathos embarrassing. I could see you quite clearly crying at your keyboard while typing that response.

A new definition

South Park recently did an episode in which they lobbied that the word "fag" be officially changed from referencing homosexuals to Harley motorcycle rides instead (because of their level of noise pollution and constant need to be seen and heard).

Well I propose that the word "fag" be changed to refer to the degree of incredible cowardice on display all over the right wing blog world over the decision to try these suspects in civilian court.

What a bunch of incredible fags.

Conservatism ain't what it used to be

The conservatism I grew up with was suspicious of government and not trusting of it.

The conservatism I knew would be highly skeptical of trials held under these circumstances.

But alas-somewhere along the way the conservatism I knew as a youth morphed into the military and government fawning lickspittle movement that it is today that places absolute faith and trust in their "leaders".

And weirdly- these fraud fake conservatives- again defined by their child like faith and trust in the armed wings of government and martial authority- call people skeptical of government to be "liberals".

What is commendable?

So it is commendable that the Obama administration is going to try four 9/11 suspects in a criminal trial in New York city?

I guess.

So is the "Muslim world" supposed to be impressed by this "justice" in which 4 men who have been held for the better part of a decade, with most of that time in extreme isolation, who were submitted to torture techniques that the US borrowed from Soviet sources that were themselves first developed to extract false confessions from Stalin's enemies- whose minds are complete putty if not completely under the control of their captors?

I guess we are now so debased as a country that we can fool ourselves that such trials are legitimate but we can hardly expect anyone else to buy them.

The sad fact of the matter is that ANY trial of these detainees at this point will NEVER be seen as legitimate by anyone outside of this country.

Stalin's show trials had hardened revolutionaries admitting to fantastical and wholly made up out of thin air conspiracies and plots only after a few months of isolation and being submitted to the standard interrogation "techniques". About no one in the outside world bought those trials.

Who in the world is going to accept the trials of these men as being legitimate? And if they don't is that evidence of their "Anti Americanism" for thinking that trials of men held in total isolation and tortured for six, seven, even eight years are anything but rigged show trials?
