Estate Tax myths

To everybody commenting on Estate Taxes (not that this is on topic or anything...)

Myth 7: The estate tax constitutes "double taxation" because it applies to assets that

already have been taxed once as income.

Reality: Large estates are comprised mostly of "unrealized" capital gains that

have never been taxed; the estate tax is the only means of taxing this income.

Income taxes on the appreciation of assets, such as real estate or artwork, are only paid

when the asset is sold. Therefore, the increase in the value of an asset is never subject

to income tax if the asset is held until a person dies. These "unrealized" capital gains

can make up a significant share of an estate’s total value (http://www.cbpp.org/6-17-

05tax.htm), especially among large estates — the ones likely to owe estate tax.

One reason the estate tax was created was to serve as a backstop to the income tax,

taxing income that was never taxed under the income tax. That is, the taxation of this

income is essentially deferred and ultimately taxed for the first time through the estate

tax.

whale-load of $ to promote something, you have to suspect their motivation.

To the trolls

It just stinks that the truth has a liberal bias doesn't it?

NPR is the most balanced news available, try it sometime rather than listening to Rush Limbaughs talking points.

They deal with every issuse with the kind of depth and detail that NO OTHER NEWS PROGRAMS DO.

And actually try to ferrret out facts spending some time on a story providing both sides opportunity to present views without resorting to shouting matches.

NPR is a national treasure.

I will give you that Oberman clearly has a liberal bias, but go ahead and prove him wrong....

Mathews is god knows what but he sure isn't liberal.

MSM is just to lazy to actually bother to find the truth.

WeikuBoy and Elephantman throwdown

Hey you guys how about a tit for tat example of

liberal bias and conservative views

limited to misrepresentation of the facts

(Sorry I dont think tone really counts)

Score this way

Example in main stream media (2 Points)

NPR or Fox (1 point)

My $ on WeikuBoy

And Elephant man RE: programming for NPR

Wish my NPR station would carry Democracy Now

that would be sweet.

I have listened to a lot of news and I have never heard

more fair and balaced representation of the facts than

I have from Morning Edition and All Things Considered.

I Listened to Fresh Air's Orielly interview, seemed pretty fair to me what I could hear, the stream is broken.

How much money does NPR get from CPB and how much does Faux

get from my Cable bill? (I have no idea I am just curious)

not totally equivalent but somewhat simmilar.

verelse, what a great letter deserves a red star!

verelse, So enjoyed your letter please thank your son for his service for me and my family. I hope that he comes home soon.

War is such a horrible practice even when done for the the most noble reasons. My father a WWII marine fought on Iwo Jima, Saipan, and Kwajalein and was never the same. He was permanently scarred by the experience (and not just from being wounded).

"And I pray our child will never see

A little corporal again

Point toward a foreign shore

Captivate the hearts of men

Save my soul from evil, lord

And heal this soldiers heart

Ill trust in thee to keep me, lord

Im done with bonaparte"

How Much Experience did Abraham Lincoln have?

Abraham Lincoln, arguably one of our best presidents ever, had about as much experience when he became prez as Barack Obama, and how did that turn out? Its not necessarily about experience but about intelligence and integrity.

Barack has it in spades, others, not so much.

It will be good if we can keep it clean

It WILL be good for the eventuial nominee if we can keep this contest clean (I am looking at you Hilary) If you cant say something positive, shut up. Stop helping the GOP and think long term about the helth of this nation. We not only need a Democratic presedent but we need some serious majorities in BOTH houses to try to reverse this ship of state before we land on the shoals.

The candidate that can rise obove the fray and do this the best should be the one who gets the nod.

Barack Obama is Uber Qualified

I have lived through many administrations and candidates in my 45 years and Barack is unequivocally the BEST candidate I have EVER seen. The first I have actually thought that I can vote for without feeling like I am picking the lesser of two evils.

Barack also has about as much experience as another Candidate from Illinois Abraham Lincoln who is arguably one of our greatest presidents EVER.

So I am feeling good.

Congratulations Keef!

Enjoy your new baby, (to your wife) Take as much time at the hospital as you can and use the breastfeeding councilors. I know from our experience that starting breastfeeding can be tricky particularly with the first, don't give up!

Why dont democrats go second for a change?

It surprised me that after the 2004 Debacle that dems would let repubs go 2nd in conventions. Thats twice in a row (if not more) that they have gotten to rebut the DNC convention rather than the other way around. I think it would do a lot for limiting the attacks if they went first. I don't know how it works but whoever plans the next one should try to go 2nd.
