What a joke!

I lived in Alaska for three years, and the following statement must be some sort of joke:

Alaskans "have such a love, a respect for our environment, for our lands, for our wildlife, for our clean water and our clean air. We know what we've got up here and we want to protect that..."

The average Alaskan doesn't give a crap about the environment. Just take a drive from Anchorage to Fairbanks and see how much garbage you find on the side of the road. Take a drive around Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska, and you will still find neighborhoods that look like a frontier town. You will find expensive houses on city lots next to trailers covered in insulating foam. Some people just bury their old cars in their yard instead of hauling them away. People dump garbage everywhere. There are no zoning laws in Alaska and people just build stuff where ever they wish. It really is quite a disturbing mess.

Most Alaskans also resent those from the "outside" for keeping them from drilling on "their land" for more of "their oil." They have all forgotten who paid the Russians for the state.

One way to verify email is read

I have an account at www.yeswecan.com that verifies that an email has been read. I think it does this by holding the body of the email on a server until it is read, but I am not sure. The accounts are free, you just have an ad on the side of the screen. I have found it quite a useful feature.

Horrible Person?

Single people without children should (almost) never date single people with children. It rarely works out. If this woman marries this man, their relationship will be doomed. First of all, she is too young to marry this man. She will have different needs and be in different stages at different times. If she marries this man, she is going to end up a 38 year old divorced woman desperate to get pregnant (if she is lucky).

But, what is this attitude some have toward the potential step-mom? She is not her step-mom and she has absolutely no responsibility for this 16 year old girl. That will all change if she marries this man, but she isn't married yet.

Cary Tennis is giving her the best advice she will ever get, I hope she is smart enough to take it.

Sarah Palin...

...will be the answer to a trivia question in four years. I was so glad the day McCain panicked after Obama's convention speech and chose Sarah Palin to be his running-mate -- that was the day Obama won the election.

Tampa International

Florida doesn't get too many things right in the matter of Civil Engineering, but try out Tampa International Airport. It is the most well designed airport in the US.

Denver Isn't Big Enough

I have read many stories about the demise of the Rocky Mountain News, going all the way back to when they combined forces with the Denver Post. However, I have yet to hear anyone mention that Denver just isn't a large enough city to support more than one major daily newspaper. It seems to be the smallest metro area in the country with two major newspapers, but I guess not anymore...

We Are Mammals!

Yeah, that's right, mammals drink milk secreted from glands in their mother's breasts. It is an animal fact, humans are mammals, we drink mother's milk.

Our whole animal class is named after tits!

Aren't they great?

I recommend Ms. Sarah rent the movie "Going Places." It is a 1974 french film where Gérard Depardieu suckles a woman's lactating breast on a train. I saw it on HBO when I was about 10 years old, it was the craziest thing I had ever seen on TV (at that point).

Yeah... whatever.

Just another fucked up story about a fucked up person. When you have kids, you have a responsibility to provide them with as normal of a life as you can manage. That includes discipline and two parents.

If a married couple decides to get divorced, well fine, just do it in a mature manner and keep your kids out of it. Why do divorced people move so far away from each other? There are just too many fucked up people on the Earth.

Abortion.... *yawn*

Really, who cares? Discussing abortion is pointless. Everyone has their mind made up already and no one is going to change. This article is a wasted rebuttal to a truly idiotic article.

Home Birth Only If You Know The Risks

...I call total bullshit on the idea that there is any one path you can take, or any song you can play as your child is being pushed into the world, that can determine who that child is going to turn out to be. - Rebecca Traister

Bravo, wise words.

People have been having babies virtually forever. Only recently has it become fairly low-risk thanks to hospitals and well trained doctors and nurses. Home birth is okay for people to chose as long as they are aware of the risks and accept them. Most people who try home birth are not adequately informed about the risks they are taking.

I have delivered several hundred babies -- all in a hospital (including one in the hallway by the front door). I would not recommend anyone have a home birth, unless you are Amish.

Believe in something. Even if it's wrong.

"Believe in something.

Even if it's wrong."

Just take a moment to consider the mental capacity of the person who would make such a statement.

The person that said that is a multimillionaire.

Why did I bother with all those years in school?
