"tonight you'll hear him call on Congress to pass the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act reauthorization"
FISA doesn't need to be reauthorized. It has no expiration date. The PAA is what they are trying to reauthorize. Luckily I frequent Glenn Greenwald's column. Too bad some of the White House press corps aren't doing their job...
Dana Perino repeated the FISA renewal lie and another Salon writer picked it up and repeated it without critical comment. I am glad we have Mr. Greenwald to sort through all this mess with a scalpel and figure out the truth.

Thanks Glenn!

You should have your publicist try to book you on The Daily Show! You would be an ideal guest.
Congressman are allowed to accept millions of dollars from companies which THEY REGULATE!
These very same lawmakers chastise me and say I am wrong when I accept a free pen or a free sandwich from a drug rep who wants to spend five minutes telling me about their new product.
Yeah, that makes sense...
Was he considering endorsing McCain? Glad to see Gore still has the guts to make the hard decisions when they matter...
"Even doctors hate us. Most doctors would rather see a patient with suppurating genitals than a hypochondriac, and with good reason."
This quote had me laughing tonight and that second part is true. But Doctors don't hate their patients.
I am a physician, and hypochondriacs are difficult to deal with. However, no one can be diagnosed until after taking a thorough history and doing an exam and ordering the appropriate tests. Once the medical problems are ruled out I clearly and calmly explain to them that they need to see a psychiatrist or psychologist. While hypochondriacs can be treated by psychotherapy - it is nearly impossible to get a hypochondriac to try it. But once I suggest it they almost always find a new doctor and leave me alone.
Bush might just decide that this is a pardon better left unsigned.
Yeah, and pigs might fly out of my ass...
I felt a lot of hope when I woke up on Wednesday morning, November 8th, 2006. However, with people like Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi running the show, I can't see how we should expect anything except the status quo.
Even Bill Frist and Dennis Hastert wouldn't pass the FISA bill that Reid and Pelosi just passed. I am beginning to think nothing will get better until after things get much worse first...
Getting rid of the Senate and House leaders would take care of this problem and be easier to accomplish.
They can't even stand up to the lame duck and least popular president in (modern?) US history! Effective leaders would put the so-called "Blue Dogs" in their proper place.
Tip O'Neill must be spinning in his grave...
Stephanie Zacharek is the inverse movie critic. Good review here means I wait for the DVD.
In a review of The Mummy 3, what is the point in bringing up The Dark Knight in such a petulant way? Sarcasm works best with subtlety, not hyperbole.
Showing weakness in such a way will only invite more attacks.
Nice work on digging up the fact that a social worker, not a psychologist nor a psychiatrist, was responsible for the news reports of Ivins unstable character. Social Workers are not trained to diagnose mental illness. It has been my experience that when they MSW's attempt to diagnose mental illness, they really suck at it.
I am glad we still have a journalist on this case.
Does anyone have any information or links to any reports about exactly what he overdosed on? I can't find much except a description of "a massive dose of tylenol with some codeine."
No one with any background in biology or medicine would overdose on tylenol, it is a horribly long and painful way to die. I am betting he took too much Tylenol 3, and it isn't being reported in a rigorous fashion. Does anyone know?
Laws regarding autopsies vary from state to state and county to county. But you don't need a court order and you don't need the family permission every time. A coroner can do an autopsy if they think it is a suspicious death without the approval of the family. Common sense would dictate an autopsy in anyone being investigated in a criminal case.
No offense, but transcribing autopsy reports doesn't really mean you know anything about PERFORMING or INTERPRETING an autopsy. There is quite a bit of information to learn from an autopsy, and surprises happen.
It also removes doubt of the cause of death.
I went to school in Florida and any suicide in the county I lived in was an automatic autopsy. I had to assist with a few autopsies during my training, and the freezer was always full of suicides waiting to get their post-mortem exam.
'"Savage Barbecue" is either the most ridiculous book ever written about America's defining "grass-roots" food, or it is the most profound.'
Umm, yeah -- I cast my vote for the former.
What's the difference between a Pit Bull and Sarah Palin?
When Sarah Palin has a litter, she has to have them one at a time...
Neither are welcome in Denver...
You can't go to jail for making Sarah Palin fight...
Pit Bulls don't believe the earth is 5,000 years old...
Pit Bulls (like all dogs) are colorblind...
Pit Bulls only mate when they are in heat...
I like pit bulls!
these are the best I can come up with on short notice.
until you have seen them enough times to understand or enjoy them. For example, I think the fifth time I saw The Big Lebowski was the funniest. It takes an incredible talent to make a movie like that.
