sensitivities

Suppose Candidate A attacked Candidate B.

Supporters of Candidate B interpreted as racist, got indignant and complained.

Supporters of A, though, didn't interpret the attack as racist, so they got indignant and resented what they thought was an unfair and dishonest attack on B, o they indignant and complained.

Supporters of A, convinced they were right, didn't think it possible for supporters of B to have interpreted events so radically differently, so they figured that the supporters of B must be defending/lying about the racist attack and got even more indignant.

Soon, a funny little vortex of anger developed and was able to sustain itself until even now.

Now substitute "sexism" for "racism."

Meanwhile, John McCain waits in the wings. There is nothing moderate about the positions McCain is advocating.

Over the past 8 yrs, the neoCon-led Bush Administration has invaded a country under false pretenses; eviscerated the Bill of Rights, privatized an enourmous amount of our goverment (meaning your tax dollars go to their cronies and service to the public often declines); sought to expand the power of the Presidency beyond reason (certainly well beyond the Framer's conception of "balance of power"); demonized anyone who dared to disagree with vicious propoganda campaigns (Plame outing, e.g.); ignored Katrina; caused the price of gas to skyrocket and the dollar to drop and the housing bubble to expand and collapse; inflamed world hatred against the U.S. (which makes us a hell of a lot less safe*); found out ridiculously little about the languages, cultures, motivations of the terrorists; bungled alliance with Putin and Musharraf; _____

*Well, terrorist recruitment. Plus it's tough to get information when countries who respect the Geneva Convention won't extradite prisoners to us because the U.S.—the country with a ban on cruel and unusual punishment and the presumpution of innocence written into its Constitution—

McCain wants to bomb Iran. This will sure help all of the above.

i think we're saying that because we know and appreciate your priorities

we find it puzzling that you would even contemplate voting for McCain given the results

peace out :)

so Obama is running on the misogyny ticket, and McCain is a feminist?

I'm not denying that there's sexism or apologizing for it, and I think it would be great for Obama to reach out to Hillary's supporters, and not just for form's sake.

oh c'mon you beat me to the button

and you're drawing some pretty broad conclusions from a bunch of kooks typing away late at night on one particular website

Original article: Celtics: The big lead

i'm no lakers lover, either, but i'm with ya on the foul disparity

i like the Celts: their (Garnett) demeanor, their history, the fun of seeing a kick-ass Eastern Conference team after so much Western dominannce.

and there's clearly something to Boston being the agressor

and Boston played a fine game with fine defense, closing on Kobe and keeping him out of the paint; it was pretty to watch

and if kobe were jordan he woulda made a lot more of those shots, refs or no

but it got harder to appreciate as the disparity grew and the touch fouls called at one end didn't match the let-em-play style of refereeing at the other

there was even that time when one of the announcers commented on an apparent Celtic foul leading to a low-post steal and fast break

but they didn't even show the replay, and the announcers didn't address this anymore

i don't think this is because the network is in the bag for the Celts; probably they want to avoid controversy

one way or another, i expect to see some fireworks in l.a. i hope nicholson get fired up cause damn he's entertaining

just sayin ;)

yeh, good points, and i agree that the one kobe complained about didn't look bad at all (at least from my angle)

but that said, and just for the benefit of argument, if you can consistently hack drivers in the lane without getting called, it won't hurt your interior defense

(and I ain't sayin the Celt can't legitimately play smothering defense, because they clearly can)

anyhow, LOL!:

"(3) David Stern has installed buzzers in the referees pants which go off every time a Laker player breathes on Ray Allen

Pandyora"

weird vibes, aye?

no you're right, the lakers had plenty of chances

and didn't take advantage of them

and they'll get more chances, too

and kobe does normally get more than his share of calls

and the Truth spoke

i'm just saying from my non-partisan-wanting-to-enjoy-the-game perspective that it would've been more fun if the refs let em both play or called em both tight

it's easy to hate the glitzy lakers and the notoriously arrogant kobe, and maybe even think they're getting their (sorry Phil) karmic come-uppance. i get it

anyhow, fun thread!

with lots of knowledgable comments and no yellin

Monday, June 9, 2008 09:18 AM

i suppose they're making this point

"There's something deeply wrong with a presidential candidate who attracts so many of these hateful psychotics."

because right-wing blogs never attract bitter hate-speech?

frankly, who would be surprised if this whole thing was a right-wing plant?

strawman, guilt by association, poisoning the well...

neat

yes, i agree it's a false choice

Is the advancement of women more important than the advancement of blacks?

-- Kelly Q

Nicely said. They're both important! But they're not the only groups in the country (and Obama, like so many of us, isn't just one thing, but a product of the American Melting Pot). I'm excited that we have two strong Dems extolling equality for all people!

do i contradict myself?

on the general subject of what style of officiating is best of the game (purity vs. entertainment, etc.)...

does any else—even though you love drives and dunks—secretly wish they'd call the jump-stop traveling?
