Well, I was with you until this:

That’s not to say that some punishment — whether it’s meted out by their parents, the school or the law — isn’t reasonable in this case. After all, the general reaction to a teenage boy sending out explicit photos of himself to female classmates would likely, and rightly, be that it was sexual harassment — why should it be any different if a girl is the sender? Also, distributing nude photos of yourself is potentially self-endangering behavior that should be addressed — obviously.

Lighten up. This paragraph is completely irrelevant at best. At worst, it is your own sexual nazi side peeking out a bit. Not helpful in the least.

No, I do not think that there is much evidence there. Interesting, yes, because it shows how hard you are grasping at straws.

Yes, it is time for all good repubs to engage in after the fact prediction

From a speech prepared for McCain today (see How the World Works):

“Investors are always responsible for their investment decisions, but the hard earned savings of Americans should not be penalized by the erratic behavior of politicians.”

Yes, McCain has taken Obama's word and turned it back on unnamed politicians. After all, no one dumb enough to be convinced to vote republican would remember that "erratic" was Obama's word for McCain. Likewise, no one dumb to take Pearlstein seriously would notice that he is lying.

Look, they have been getting away with this crap for decades. The tide seems to be turning; more and more these folks take abuse for their lies. But do not expect them to abandon a working technique.

Shooter will be along shortly to claim that that it is really the progressives who use this technique.

The goal

The end of this post presents a goal: keeping the democrats in check. Absolutely necessary, IMO. Start planning now!

@laughop

Why would Obama not do this?

You have got to be kidding! The repubs would use this as a way of preventing any real reform and would probably succeed in continuing to advance their program.

Elephantman, Jim left out one thing:

The separation into Sunni and Shiite neighborhoods is closer to complete than it was before the surge, contributing to the decrease in violence.

And remember: the end of war was celebrated with the costume codpiece incident. Then the civil war started. Civil wars never go well. I do recall that a certain individual relevant to this topic did go shopping there, with the mother-of-all personal security forces. The denial of reality in that escapade reminds me of that in the debate two nights ago. Whose policies really benefit Joe? And why does Joe not understand this?

I am saying, hit our opponents over their stupid heads with a 2 x 4.

Ok, Sherrie, but it is John McCain, not Cindy, who is the opponent. Let's not waste energy or wood

OT: NYT on nominee's health

Headline: Many Holes in Disclosure of Nominees’ Health

I love the way the MSM puts misleading headlines on stories. The article is mostly about McCain's extensive problems, less so about Biden's.

As for Obama:

Mr. Obama has had a notable medical problem: a difficulty in stopping smoking.

And Palin; well she had a baby recently.

Original article: Ask Pablo

Quetico_Loon

I went back and read Pablo's article after reading your letter expecting to find it had been replaced with a different one. But no, the same one is still there, and it does not say anything very much different from what you are saying. Does it make you feel good to trash everyone else?

Who, of any import in the Republican party, has said, "Well, you know that Mr. Obama is a Muslim." Who? This is not just a careless statement by Colin Powell; it is a stupid statement, a risible one.

Gen. Powell said he had heard senior members of his party make such statements. How do you know what he has heard? Sorry, an elephant cannot function as a fly on the wall. The help notices the turds.

Oh Glenn,

You cannot write a post like this and be considered serious. First you need to find another democratic consultant who says that that Lieberman should be waterboarded. Then you can say that the truth lies somewhere in between.

But the good news is that now that Britain is proposing that you have to show a passport in order to purchase a cellphone chip, you can be a serious journalist and write about how we are protecting our freedoms in the USA.

Something Stinks

No it is certainly you.

SS:

The more I read Glenn, the more I see that he and Rush are merely two sides of the same coin - a wooden nickel. Imagine Rush's voice reading Clenn's copy - remarkable isn't it?

There is a little matter regarding facts: they matter. Rush L. has very little regard for them. Glenn has the facts right nearly all of the time. He also has an emotional viewpoint. But surely you can see the difference between facts + emotion on the one hand, and nearly fact free drivel intended to excite hate on the other hand.

Why indeed?

I think the reason comes down to what we engineers and scientists deal with a lot: instabilities induced by positive feedback and time delays in the system, resulting in hard saturation in one direction, followed some time later by a rapid movement in the other direction.

A relevant physical example is some of the mechanisms in global warming. An increase in CO_2 causes an increase in temperature, resulting in other effects which further increase the temperature, and so on.

I am sure the mechanisms in our society are quite complicated, but this analogy might be of some use.

"Of course, I'm not all that smart, so please straighten me out if I'm missing something." P.R.

How about if we get the US into a much better position in regard to human rights before forcing anymore countries to be better than us? How many Iranian women have you asked if they would like the US to get involved in Iran's internal affairs?
