Scary!

"Unless you support John McCain now, America may be saddled with a President whom people are enthusiastic about!"

Is this what American Political Cynicism has come to -- trying to generate suspicion about an enthusiastic response to a candidate?

Is apathy supposed to be so much the norm that any deviation from it should be a bad sign?

"Vote John McCain -- Because He's, You Know, Not A Bad Guy As Politicians Go."

Why the heck ...

Why the heck would I buy a table whose stability needed to be augmented by propping it on a window sill?

Librul Bias

Liberal Bias is when MediaCorp doesn't pass on the right-wing lies fast enough.

Original article: O'Really?

So ...

So, having sex -- and specifically sex that involves a male erection -- isn't a choice for Bill?

What about his wife, does she have any choice in the matter?

(That's a rhetorical, of course. I really don't want to know.)

I love it ...

Signs of desperation from the McCain camp: trying to turn Obama's popularity into a drawback.

Wait a minute ... isn't the knee-jerk poo-pooing of things that are popular something that elitists do? But, but, but ... isn't it supposed to be Dems who are elitists? All the serious (and extremely well-paid) pundits say so.

@ MICKI

The Obama campaign intends to use the large, 70,000+ seat venue for his acceptance speech to construct their "reality" (the one they are creating through well-calculated imagery) that will convince viewers at home that Obama is a Leader of a Movement, that Obama will Lead the Nation to Greater Things.

That's true, of course, but it's also worth noting that the Obama campaign knows damn well that there are enough enthusiastic Obama supporters to fill that venue. The McCain campaign, on the other hand, knows damn well that they couldn't fill a venue like that. So all they can do is mock citizen participation in the political process -- and yes, attending rallies is a form of participation -- and have their sock puppets make dark insinuations.

As the McCain campaign gets more desperate, I wonder if they'll start macking all the people doing voter registration. ("The Nazis were elected, you know.")

Excellent!

Go ahead, McCain campaign, keep criticizing Obama for being too popular, for generating too much excitment with his supporters. That's the ticket!

"Vote for John McCain: The candidate you can be proudly unenthusiastic about."

Media bias charge disproved by the reaction

The fact that the McCain campaign's absurd charge of pro-Obama media bias is being taken at all seriously by the media shows the general right-wing bias of MediaCorp. An unbiased media would simply roll their eyes and otherwise ignore this sort of posturing.

@ Philadelphia Steve

True, MediaCorp has been biased toward them -- and the right-wing in general -- for so long that any movement even vaguely in the direction of unbiased coverage must seem like a vicious attack.

Main Core

If I'm not in the Main Core database -- if it exists -- clearly I haven't been meaningfully fulfilling my civic duty.

Anyone who thinks of themselves as a political activist should be embarrassed if they're not in Main Core or otherwise listed somewhere.

As for the fact someone pointed out that Main Line would be (gosh!) 30 years old ... so? Microsoft Windows is 25 years old. Unix is nearly 40 years old. You think folks at the NSA or wherever wouldn't have made improvements and added capabilities? (And surely you're not suggesting that they haven't continuously updated the data itself?)

Hell, firearms are hundreds of years old. Obviously, anyone worried about confronting a mugger with a nine is overreacting. "That sort of weapon is ancient! Just laugh and walk away!"

For some reason ...

Somewhat off-topic, but:

For some reason it hadn't really occurred to me until now, but if Obama wins and the Dems make the kinds of gains they're hoping for in Congress, wouldn't that imply a major post-election power battle within the RNC and the right wing in general? Is there any way to meaningfully predict what the results might look like?

Security Theatre

"Security Theatre proudly features quality entertainment distributed by BushCo Unitary Unlimited and professionally produced by MediaCorp International. We hope you enjoy the show.

Or else."

Unsurprisingly ...

Unsurprisingly, "The Plan" calls for centralized -- and no doubt publicly-funded but highly-corporatized -- "wind facilities". Somehow I can't see him pushing for decentralized approaches and/or energy cooperatives. How many of the folks who benefited most from our current dead-end will be lining up to save us from their own pump-up-the-stock-price short-sightedness ... with their hands out, grabbing for no-bid contracts and all the kinds of corporate welfare they've come to depend on?

@ DQuintanaNY

I'm getting the feeling that Obama's victory in November will be a lot like Reagan's in 1984.

It may need to be, for Obama to win at all. I'm guessing that in Reagan's case, all of the votes were counted.

What real margins of victory will Obama need in which states, in order to still win those states?

@ missioncreep

Backing from the Sierra Club isn't all that indicative, these days. I understand they've been at least somewhat co-opted.

1775: "I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!" -- Patrick Henry

2005: "None of your civil liberties matter much after you’re dead." -- Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas)

(Of course, as has been pointed out by many folks before, it's not even really a trade-off between security and freedom. Giving away our freedoms doesn't make us safer.)
