While I also thought of the Dixie Chicks, I was heartened to see that Garth Brooks was a headliner. Too often Conservatives assume that anyone who either listens to, or plays country music is required to be a Republican.
That is not true, despite attempts at enforcement of that concept on the Dixie Chicks. And I'm glad to see a country Star tere.
Now... on to NASCAR.
Considering that the Bush's generally spent Thrusday night through Monday Morning at Camp David, and were on vacation for weeks (months) on end, how did anyone even know they were gone?
Unless Mr. Libby gets his pardon, he can never practice law again. Then again he will likely pull in a seven figure income on the rightwing talk circuit anyway: As long as he defends the Bush doctrine 100% of the time.
Should Mr. Libby ever slip, or write a tell-all book, he can be prosecuted. So this may be a win-win-win situation ($'s for Libby - Silence on what happened - the 5th Amendment if asked).
When you can pull down a seven figure paycheck for pure stenography rather than journalism, who should be surprised that we wind up with David Gregory's reporting the "news"?
I gave up on the "Nightly News" shows long ago, anyone who treats those TV shows as anything other than the vapid puff pieces they are likely also watch the "Searching for Big Foot" as though it were news as well.
Because Republicans, in one last fit of pettiness, would not confirm Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State, along with the others who were approved yesterday. She will certainly be confirmed, but a day or two later.
So, having already resigned her Senate seat, on Tuesday morning the only "official" positions that Hillary Clinton held were "Former First Lady" and "Former Senator". Thereofore her presence was "at the side" of Former President Bill Clinton.
To the very last moment, Republicans could not get over their Clinton-Derangement-Syndrome sufficiently to not have one last official slap in the face to their credit.
Typical.
It was not stubborness that was on display in George W. Bush's last speeches. It is the fact that George W. Bush was born completely devoid of a conscience.
When one has no conscience (or soul, if you are of a religious bent), then no consequence of one's action has any meaning, and any expression of regret is a completely foreign emotion.
George W. Bush is exactly such a person, as his record demostrated fully.
Everyone knows that the only "real" version of the Bible is the King James Version. (God did speak 17th Century English to Adam and Moses, didn't he?)
Even if Barak Obama had used a Bible, and it was.. say the Revised Standard Version, the Radical Right would have been up in arms about that one as well.
What we are seeing is an accused person stopping at nothing in trying to hang onto his office in the face of very persuasive evidence that he tried to auction off political appointments. He will, of course, continue the escalation of his defensive rhetoric until the day when Godwin’s Law kicks in.
By Forbes' standard, "Liberal" is anyone not Grover Norquist or Ann Coulter.
Now watch for Chris Wallace and the rest of the FoxNews Team, between declaring that Barak Obama is not President because he was not sworn in, to start citing this Forbes article as "proof" of a Liberal Media.
Those countries ALREADY ARE the equivalent of those countries during the 1960’s and 1970’s. They became that way because George W. Bush broke off the pursuit of the Taliban and al Qaeda, back when those groups cold have been eradicated, in order to follow his personal vendetta against Saddam Hussein.
Now it is up to President Obama to clean up the mess that the Bush Administration left behind: All the while with American Conservatives pretending that “we were turning the corner in Afghanistan and Pakistan” before President Obama came to town.
Also don’t forget to add that President Obama must do this in the face of 100% opposition from the energy-company funded Republican Party: 75% of whose base believes in Creationism. Trying to bring this group over to trust anything that is the result of the Scientific Method is impossible, and overcoming their religiously-based opposition to taking any action on global climate change (“Jesus is coming back in the next few years, so why do anything at all”) will be a tall order.
It is just standard political operating procedure for Republicans: "If it does not benefit the ultra rich or the Religious Right, then we're against it".
There is no logic beyond that to it. And trying to divine any is a waste of time.
Re: "But I'm curious: What exactly IS the correct temperature for this globe we all live on? "
There is no "correct" temperature. Within a fairly wide range, organisms of some type will continue to grow and even thrive. Just not human beings.
Further, trying to avoide Global Warming is not a matter of "Saving the Earth". The Earth is already doomed because when the sun expends is hydrogen fuel, it will expand and consume the earth anyway: In about three billion years.
Those who are working to keep the Earth's environment from heating up too much are just trying to extend humanity's time on this planet. With absolutely no help whatsoever from politicial Conservatives who appear bent on shortening Humanity's time here to the shortest period possible.
Somehow Fox’s Geraldo and Blago together seem so absolutely appropriate.
In order to do that, the Democrats would have to have a mainstream media that reported facts, not RNC talking points.
Remember though, this is the same media that were uncritical stenographers for Republican "we are turning the corner in Iraq" lines for three years.
So I am not optimistic that anything other than Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin will rule the airwaves.
