Insiders

Watch for all the Conservatives, who believed that a horse show judge was OK to run FEMA, become suddenly aghast that Mr. Panetta is "unqualified" to run the CIA.

Republican blocking

Not one of the Republicans will break ranks on this: And Joe Lieberman will certainly side with the Republicans on this one, as he will on every significant vote in the upcoming Congress: Rewarding Ried's spinelessness further.

Loyalty

And not one single Republican will break ranks. They are 100% more loyal to The party than they are to the United States of America.

The weakness of the Democratic party, and spineless harry Ried, is that the Republicans will not have to actually fillibuster this issue. Like all the others it will only require the threat of a fillibuster and a single vote. The minority Republicans will humiliate the majority Democrats in less than a day. Again.

Fillibuster

While satisfying, the course of action you suggest would require the display of even the tinies amount of backbone on the part of the Democrats.

It will never happen.

Standing up for the Democrats

(soon to be )Senator Al Franken and Representative Barney Frank appear to be the only two Democrats in Congress with a backbone. Perhaps Harry Reid can inquire about a possible transplant.

Emboldened Republicans

With these "concerns" expressed by two Democrats who rubber stamped Bush torturing of prisoners, it is very possible that Republicans will try to fillibuster the nomination in the Senate: Just to give an initial defeat to Barak Obama.

Given the spineless Harry Ried and the certainty that Joe Lieberman will side with Republicans, the nomination is almost certainly dead.

Tuesday, January 6, 2009 10:53 AM

As I predicted

The Republicans did not even have to actually fillibuster for five minutes, or even take a cloture vote. They just had to give speeches that they might fillibuster and Harry Ried rolled right over on Al Franken.

Has there ever been a more spineless leader, in any political party, ever?

Six week goal?

Good luck on that one.

All that has to happen is some Republican, somewhere, threaten to fillibuster the bill (that someone does not even have to be a member of the Senate) and spineless Harry Reid will drop the bill from consideration and not even bring it up for a vote.

Barak obama's target is as good as dead, unless Mr. Reid checks into Bethesda for a testicular transplant.

Election certification.

You are correct that Al Franken will have to be certified by the state, and survive the inevitable court challenges.

Assuming that Al Franken makes it past those hurdles...

Republicans will STILL threaten to filibuster his seating in the Senate. And Harry Reid will immediately cave in without so much as a whimper.

I sincerely hope that Harry Reid lives a long and happy life. However I do suggest that, in his will, he leave his body to the National Institute of Health as it could prove invaluable for medical research as he is the only example I can cite of a mammal capable of standing upright without even the vestige of a spine.

"The fights will come soon enough. The Republicans will see to that."

It isn't the fights that concern me. It is who will stand next to Harry Reid to keep him from continually caving in to even a threat from Republicans? We certainly know that Senator Reid does not have the testicular fortitude to do it on his own.

Jeb

I've met Jeb Bush and hes really was (is) the brighter one. But the Bush Brand has been so tarnished I doubt a "Bush" has as much chance of getting elected in this generation as a "Hoover" did in the last.

We'll have to settle for "Palin" instead.

Embarrasing Harry Reid?

Republicans have spent the past two years setting a record for "fillibusters" without actually having to really fillibuster anything. Just the threat and a single cloture vote has been enough.

Joe Lieberman openly campaigned for a Republican Presidential candidate and Republican Senators and he is punished with.... nothing.

Now Al Franken will not be seated because Republicans made a threat in a speech, without even a cloture vote.

Nothing Diane Feinstein says or does can be any more embarrasing to Harry Reid than the complete display of spinelessness he has shown for the past two years as "Majority" leader.

Why did the Democratic Senate leadership handle Burris' seating so badly?

Because Harry Reid did not want to break his streak.

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 08:54 AM

Damage

If Harry Reid were on the RNC payroll, he could not be any worse for the Democratic party, or the Senate as a whole.

How is it he still has the Leadership job?

Reid's Fault

Somehow or other, nothing is ever directly "Harry Reid's Fault". It is always "something else".

I am just tired of watching everything fall apart on his watch: From Republicans walking all over Democrats, and taking 0% of the accountability for the legislation they blocked to the botched management of the Burris seating.

I will no more tolerate the alibi brigades for Harry Reid than the Bush excuse batalions we see trying to tell us why nothing is ever "W's fault" either.

Both men are in over their heads, and it shows.

Sarah Palin is a shoe in for the Senate

Every Fundamentalist Christian in Alaska will be told that it is God's Will that Sarah Palin serve them in the Senate. That will be good enough for 99% of Republicans and should be sufficient for her to lock up the nomination and squeek by in the general election.

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 11:04 AM

Things are tougher in the House

Now if this were the Senate, all that would have to happen would be for the Republican to threaten a fillibuster that day and Harry Reid would crumble faster than Kentucky did to the Gators on October 25.

Reporting

Somewhere in the United States ther will be at least one party, with anywhere from five to twenty people, where some man will cross dress as a woman. In a country with more than 300 millin people, it is bound to happen at least once.

FoxNews will find that party, and play its tape at least once an hour, from the innaugeration straight through the 2010 election.
