McCain aids

The McCain aides who are now trashing Sarah palin are the same Conservative ilk who never took personal responsiblity for anything in their lives (such as the "cakewalk" in Iraq). I doubt they will start after this election.

However it is correct to say that Ms. palin will be fine. She is likely heading for a nice seven-figure job as a Right-wing commentator, likey on FoxNews between Sean Hannity and bill O'Rielly.

Obamaland

Mr. Buchanan forgot to add that all oaths would henceforth not be taken on the Bible. Instead court testimony sewarings and oath-of-office ceremonies would, in the future, only be permitted to be taken on a copy of the Quoran.

Deals

We keep debating about why John McCain veered to the Right at the convention. That was much too late in the process.

Had John McCain not gone, on bended kneee, to ask for Pat Robertson's and Jerry Falwell's approval, he would never even been in the running for president, let alone gotten past the South Carolina Primary (ask Rudy Guiliani).

By the time he got to the convention, the James Dobson half of the Republican Party (the other half is the Grover Norquist wing) was calling the shots, not John McCain.

From the day John McCain was keynote speaker at Liberty Univerisity, the campaign we are seeing from him now was preordained.

On the other hand

But the Palin/McCain campaign can count on the support of 100% of the Creation Scientists in the country. If you live in Conservative-world, that outweighs all the others combined.

The sharpest knives of all

Actually the vilest Republican recriminations will be reserved for the "Liberal media". That is because no Republican ever assumed personal responsibility for his/her actions, ever. And none ever will.

Therefore someone outside of the Republican hierarchy must be at fault. And to blame Barak Obama would be to give him credit for torpedoing the McCain campaign, and no Republican is permitted to pay even a left-handed compliment to a Democratic politician, ever.

So the evil Liberal Media it is. They are the ones who forced John McCain to select Ms. Palin and they are the evil ones who asked her questions and they are the ones who repeated the barbed comments Republicans gave them.

Republicans will use that excuse to let themselves off the hook: Just like always.

Going negative

The more negative the entire election environment appears, the more likely new (young) voters will be to view the entire process as bad and not vote.

Which explains everything about the objectives of the McCain/Palin campaign for the past month.

Made up story

However 3/4 of Conservatives will send this story over the Internet declaring it is absolutely true.

That is how Conservatives operate: Spread a lie, then ignore the (later) refutation. It is why Conservatives will still insist that Barak Obama attended a Wahabbi Islamic school in Indonesia.

All that is left are the talking heads

When the network news organizations have slashed their budgets, sometimes exceeding 40%, over the past decade, but the talent in front of the camera is seeing their pay skyrocket, all that is left is to fire everyone who used to gather and write the news stories being reported.

So why shuold we be surprised when the news reporter has to start his/her news item with the lead in, "Today's Los Angeles Times reported..." or "A story in Salon today reported that...".

The news anchors are reduced to reading newspapers or blogs on the air because there is no one doing actual research any more. That is how the Bush White House managed the news stories leading up to war, and kept America believing "we were turning the corner in iraq" for so many years: since no one checks any facts any more.

Why is anyone surprised?

contradictory

One of the inate abilities, in fact a badge of honor, among Fundamentalist Christians and the Radical Right (to the extent there is a difference) is their ability to fully believe multiple, self-contradictory items all at one time. Therefore Sean Hannity wold have no problem declaring that, not only is Malcolm-X Barak Obama's father, but so was Louis Farakhan and Jesse Jackson (Or even Michael Jackson: Science does not have to intrude on a truly great Conservative belief).

In fact, as we all know, the real goal is to maintain the hate levels among Conservatives. Hate is their sole emotion (well... greed and fear do play roles, but hate is their reason for living). At some point Conservatives will just send e-mails to each other with the title "Something Bad about Barak Hussein Obama", and a blank message attached. There is no need for a reason to hate any more, just a method to remind Conservatives that hating is what they are supposed to do.

Got any sources for that? Beyon the Washington Times and WorldNetDaily?

(Neo) Conservatives

How does Mr. Greenwald believe that the efficacy of this tactic [violently extreme smears of anyone who is not 100% loyal to the GOP policy] is finally coming to an end?

Every time the NeoConservatives have exhibited the utter failure of their policies and tactics, the sole excuse that they public state is "we did not go far enough".

Now, assuming that John McCain goes down in flames after adopting the NeoConservative banner for his campaign, does Mr. Greenwald actually believe any soul searching will happen among Conservatives, Neo- or otherwise? (Hint: It will be a long, fruitless search).

Instead expect Sarah Palin to become the poster child of the Conservative movement as they begin the chant “John McCain is no Conservative” (adopted from the current George W. Bush chant). With FoxNews giving Ms Palin one of their evening slots (between O’Rielly and Hannity, likely) so that she can convert the FoxNews evening into a non-stop three-hour Hatefest, for Barak Obama and anyone else they choose. All in lead up to the 2012 election so that “this time we nominate a real Conservative”.

The GOP will lap it up, with fund raising targeted to “beat Obama in 2012”. All to start in January 2009.

Expecting anything less from Conservatives (they are all “Neo-“ now) is kidding oneself.
