Cashing in

Interesting that the man known as "The Senator From Archer Daniels Midland" has the testicular fortitude to compalin that someone else is "cashing in" on their government service.

Hey Bob! How is that Florida condo of yours, the one you got from the Chairman of ADM for about half price, doing these days?

Fundraising

Every election cycle we are treated to screaming headlines that "Democrats are getting all the money". This only applies when the news media focus on certain, single, head-to-head comparisons and ignore the overall money flow. The Republican National Committee is out raising the Democratic National Committee

Add to that all of the Republican companies, such as Blackwater and Haliburton, with substantial White House ties who know where to "tithe" their money when it comes to campaign contributins.

By the time it is over, 2008 will be like every other election year with Republicans (and their allies) outspending Democrats (and their allies) by at least 1.5 to 1, if not more.

Bill Frist's letter and the rest of the ("Mainstream") media's articles are just part of the Conservative campaign to scare out even more money from the (Republican) party faithful.

McCain, the "Principled maverick"

Don't worry. the McCains will just have another barbecue and the Media reporters will go back to their "McCain is a Moderate" stance. It is, after all, much easier to just be a stenographer than a reporter, isn't it?

Original article: We are all appeasers now

appeasers

Talking with terrorists is only "weak" when Democrats do it. Not when Strong Republicans are the ones doing the talking.

At least that is the White House position. And we can count on the spineless stenographers of the Mainstream Media to repeat that line, word for word.

McCain's direction

We all know where this is heading.

Should there be a President McCain next January:

Guantanamo will stay open

Renditions will continue to black sites

Waterboarding will suddenly become OK.

Bush III will be in full swing.

Everything that was promised by "Senator McCain" will be inoperative under "President McCain".

And the Mainstream media reporters will declare, "How could we have been so fooled, AGAIN?"

Conservatives distrust McCain

Republican Conservatives distrusted George H. W.Bush as well. However when it came time for the election of 1998, Conservatives fell in line and obediently voted, 100% for Bush I. In return for which President Bush I handed over all of his domestic policy making to the Religious Right and Steven Forbes.

John McCain has struck a similar bargain. In return for "being president', he has handed over all of his policies to James Dobson and the Weekly Standard.

That is the price of being a Republican President. some, such as Bush I and McCain, make the deal under duress, other, such as Bush II make it enthusiastically. But the deal must be made or the nomination is witheld. The Party will never change those rules, only the enforcers.

Election.

I meant the elections of 1988. Senior moment!

Parsing

"I'm usually pretty loath to parse statements and denials looking for loopholes,"

Then why do you do it?

Chris Matthews is "loath" to talk about the politics of personality, and then proceeds to spend his entire shows doing exactly that.

Conservatives are "loath" to bring religion into the presidential campaign, then proceed to spend weeks talking about Barak Obama’s pastor.

If you are "loath" to do something, then do exactly that, then either you are schizophrenic, or a liar.

Fawning

Re: "Please please PLEASE write a column desconstructing the absolutely fawning, biased and pathetic Politico article by Jonathan Martin and Ben Smith about how "unconventional" and unpredictable Matt Drudge is because he's not smearing Obama with the same overwhelming lies that he did with Kerry and Gore."

Give him time. It's only June. The slime will start right about the Democratic convention. Look for an 'Inventoed Scandal of the Day" from Drudge/NewsMax and/or Fox, all for the Mainstream Media to parrot, without question, to drown out Barak's message.

Hillary Clinton as VP.

While I find her to be certainly qualified for the VP slot (she is qualified for President, so why not VP?), my personal opinion is that the job would pose a massive problem.

If all she does is attend foreign funerals on behalf othe Obama administration, she will be wasting her talents while waiting for 2016.

If, on the other hand, she attempts to be very active, she risks becoming the "Dick Cheney" of the Obama White House. Which would be equally disasterous for her. Besides, to have power on the level of Dick Cheney, you need a very lazy President, such as George W. Bush. And I do not see President Obama being so careless and flippant about his responsiblities as Geroge W. Bush has been.

Hillary can go on to be one of the most effective Senate majority Leaders in our history, or she can wait until 2016 (2012 if Barack blows it) and still be reasonable, and able.

Original article: Bush congratulates Obama

Congratulations

It was, in my opinion, a nice gesture on the President's part. So I belive that we should accept it as that.

Of course Chris Matthews, the man who adores George W. Bush and tells America this is the man "everyone wants to have a beer with", will gush over this for most of his show tonight. Perhaps trying to ignite a "Third Term for Bush" movement.

Oh yeah. I forgot. There is such a movement. It's called the "John McCain for President Campaign".

Sorry about that.
