Is this the Republicans real exit strategy?

Is it possible that the Republicans are intentionally positioning themselves so as to force the Democrats to take the war away from them?

Surely, behind closed doors, even the Republican brass know the war is lost. If this is so, then the only place to go is to damage control. And what could be better damage control than "We would have won, but those rascally defeatist Democrats took control from us using ." At this point, the only question is how far do they go to pretend to be attempting to retain control before handing it over to the Democrats.

Just a thought.

Original article: The Mormons are coming

"Gentiles"

I heard the word pretty commonly up until maybe the early 80's, then it seems to have disappeared. I expect it's more of a location thing. I was in Tucson.

If it wasn't torture, they wouldn't be doing it.

Why would they waste their time going to all this effort if it wasn't torture?

I'm going to grab my Cheetos and head back to my couch now.

Sorry to have been such an intrusion.

Book of South Park, Chapter 10, verse 10

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Teacher_Bangs_a_Boy

This episode hit the nail on the head. When Kyle tries to report that an adult female teacher is having sex with a 4 year old boy, the only thing the police say is "Nice!"

Small quibble

"The Volt will be the opposite of a Prius in that it is an electric car with a backup gasoline generator, rather than a gasoline motor with electric backup."

Actually, the statement about Priuses is true of Honda Hybrids, but not a Prius. A stock Prius is actually an electric car first (it will run on pure electric power, but will never run on pure gasoline power). It's just that the batteries and electric motor are both so small that they don't support driving above about 25 MPH (40 KPH) and then only for short distances.

The point you're trying to make in general is correct however: A Prius can't be used as a pure electric car in real world circumstances.

Original article: Quote of the day

"not one hour's worth of experience on national issues"

Bill Clinton? Ronald Reagan?

@nearlyfreaky

So a full term in office constitutes at least one hour of experience in federal government but a partial term does not? Do we give her, say, 30 minutes credit for two years of service? You either get experience from holding office from day one or you don't.

Original article: "I fear for my country"

Another idiot savant politician...

with all the skills to win an election, none of the skills to hold office.

What is the Republican's endgame here?

Their current approach will motivate the true believers, but... they're already motivated. And they only get one vote no matter how freaked out they are. Tactics like this just make swing voters MORE apathetic, not less.

1/10 isn't as wrong as it looks

The list has 1 million names, not 1 million social security numbers. Assuming an average of about 30 people walking around with any given name on the list and you get the 1/10 figure.

Original article: The problem with cheap oil

It's a good opportunity for souvenir collectors, though

1) Buy some one gallon gas containers.

2) Go down to your local gas station.

3) Fill them up. Take Pictures.

4) Keep the receipt!

5) Seal them tightly. Maybe add some octane stabilizers.

6) Hang on to them for 5 years or so.

7) List them on eBay like so:

Up for auction! The most valuable thing the world has ever seen: Cheap gasoline. Long since passed into the history books, these are some of the last remaining gallons of the thing that made America what it once was. Starting bid: $50.

Memo to AIG mucky mucks...

Your skills are not as unique as you think they are. Your understanding of financial markets is overrated. This stuff is not as complicated as you think. Other people can do your job, and probably should.

Why is it the only thing I can think of...

Is they should have let her get in the extra hour of skiing.

Oh well. She'll be missed.

Churchill supplied a need

Within academia (and any insular society that feels guilty about its insularity, let's not limit this to academia or even the U.S.) there's a real demand for people that can "look" ethnic and fill the token, "But I'm a close personal friend with an " role with being so foreign as to make the locals nervous.

CU got someone they thought would take the pasty white edge off, Churchill got to get his face pasted everywhere. Everyone wins. Right?
