i don't think you need to apologize in the least. though i'm younger than you (by only one generation at 46) i can totally understand what you're saying. i came out at the end of the 70s and was friends with those who worked for harvey milk, i lived in a new era that was mostly due to the efforts and abuse people like you went through.

i also see a negligence and ignorance of the past younger gays exhibit tpday and it makes me sad. the freedoms of today did npt spring full grown from the ocean. they are a result of years of revolution and perserverance. they are our history, built - as you and i know - often on the bodies of those we loved.

continue, please, to carry the pride of how far we've come. be proud of your contribution to that movement because just by carrying the memories you have, you carry it forward. be proud that as a gay man who has survived the past, you have enabled all of us to have hope that we can carry the message of acceptance into the future.

Your rant about "Shear Cut" is a little misguided. (Yeah, I watch it too as a guilty pleasure).

    1. No, they aren't all gorgeous. But some of them are pretty or handsome. More so than Project Runway or Top Chef. That doesn't mean they can't do their job.

    2. The Hostess Guy, Rene Frise, was on the European Version of Queer Eye and has several books. He's not just some guy from the streets.

    3. Kim Vo is no Anthony Bourdain but has a following in the hair world. Who are we to doubt??

I agree the judges seemed kind of ageist about the whole hair thing. Not all women beg to look younger. But they are merely responding to the requests they undoubtedly get every day.

The show - in terms of the shows it replicates - is fairly tame. There are the gays, the bitches and the talent. What else do you expect????

can't we just let this fake "story" die already? it's already a zillion years old on the internet and gotten so much hand wringing and angst already formulated about it, there seemed to be little this writer could add. and i was right. more speculating about feminism and role models and anything else that people could throw at the incident and make it stick.

let it go. they were drunk, the event was questionably handled and no one's eye was poked out. all the brou-ha-ha is now just pathetic smoke and mirrors about what any of it means.

rosalind russell is one of the best, most underrated actresses ever. i'm surprised this writer over looked her star turn in "The Women" which is slated to reemerge soon as a remake. i seriously doubt any actress will outdo Russell's brilliant creation of Sylvia Fowler.
