go, jane, go.
[Read the article: The joys of the Jane Fonda junket]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]fonda rocks.
her interaction with colbert was pure gold. who doesn't get tired of seeing the "sexy" female star interact with the "dominant, stronger" male interviewer? she turned the tables and showed a light into what many woman must go through in having to appear in a sexy dress and an alluring appeal to male strictures.
and i'm a man!
my vote - "JANE FOR 2008!!"

IGNORANCE IS BLISS
[Read the article: "Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]having seen the original production on Broadway with Angela Lansbury, i may be at a disadvantage in my response to this review. the author seems to fault Sondheim for the problems, setting aside the notion that this particular reenactment may have faults of it's own. indeed the movie version of "Chicago", while garnering raves, was in no way as animated and engaging as the stage version (which I also saw).
i haven't seen the movie version of Sweeny Todd but what I do know is that i don't remember Sascha Cohen's character from the original at all. nor do i remember any back story about Todd's past. what i do remember is an exhilerating, forceful presentation that brought the audience to it's feet.

ugh
[Read the article: In memory of Gordon Ramsay]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]ramsey on BBC and ramsey on FOX is like jekyll and hide. on Kitchen Nightmares, his advice makes sense. fresh ingredients and simple good menus the cooks can handle, he seems to really have cares about the business succeeding,.
on Hell's Kitchen, however he's like a series of Project Runway with deaf mutes. they seem impervious to listening and instruction. it's like they want to be punished, perhaps a reason why they signed on in the first place.

the truth hurts
[Read the article: I Like to Watch]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]1. on Hell's Kitchen, the cooks actually know what they're dealing with. yes, we all know Gorden Ramsey has a temper. snooz. it's like any "Survivor" contestent after season one knowing they don't need strategy and to act like a basic stereotype. do your homework people.
however, especially after watching any episode of "Kitchen Nightmare" you also know GR has the bottom line and the customer's satisfaction in mind. something Top Chef (as much as I'm addicted to it) doesn't ever address.
2. ANTM takes place somewhere between Jay Manuel's hair color and Tyra's
"be donk a donk". ad a former professional in that industry, none of the shoots ever seemed very reality based. MMAS however was at least grounded in photographers we'd actually heard of before. yeah, "Bronnie" was tiresome (if only because I thought Ronnie could do better) but it was - for the most part - less about pointing out how catty young girls can be.

SO CALLED "REAL"
[Read the article: Finale wrap-up: "The Real Housewives of New York City"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]nice job heather.
these NY chicks were so fraked up. as a former NYer, i was appalled. over the "season" there were so many cringworthy moments :
Ramona "dancing"
the Countess correcting the help
Alex and Simon at the Opera
Simon in a bikini
Alex and Simon's house
Ramona at the tennis match
Ramona threatening to throw the dog in he pool
i'm obviously slanted to be against Ramona and Alex and Simon. they were the most hot aired balloons on the show. alex spent all that money to dress like she was an assistant in a Sigfried and Roy pagent. money she could have used to, oh i don't know. FIX HER FLOORS! she's an idiot and should learn two things :
1. Noone in NYC society is going to visit you in Brooklyn and
2. If they do, they expect a palace.
Otherwise you might as well live in a walk-up on the Lower East Side. MAybe there her nude pics might come across as "ironic" not "desperate".

MARGIE JOSEPH
[Read the article: Critics' Picks]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]i listened to Margie Joseph. suffice to say, we now know where Tina Turner got her phrasing.

CINDY
[Read the article: I dated Cindy Sherman ...]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]i know Cindy and have never felt she was anything but honest and forthright. i even got the privelage of going into her studio and play with her props.
i think this film may just be the result of any relationship that ends. they are all conflicted and fraught with drama.

new wave? really?
[Read the article: My coming-out mix tape]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]my only question about the article is the use of the term "new wave". the bronski beat? i love that song but it was considered more disco when it came out and was played in dance clubs of the time. even The Culture Club was more pop than new age.
i'm apparently a little older than this author but i will give her credit for patti smith (in high school i was a rabid patti smith fan). to someone like myself who was a teen in college when new wave emerged in the late 70s, true new age groups were The B-52s. The Cars, Blondie, The Talking Heads, Joe Jackson, etc. They made sounds that were an option to disco and traditional rock and roll of the time. they were also my soundtrack to my coming out.
