I have been a "conservative" since I was in high school and passed out "Goldwater For President" literature (long ago and far away). Bush and his ignorant/arrogant cronies are the antithesis of everything I once thought of as "conservative". True conservatives are fiscally responsible. If there's anything worse than a tax-and-spend Democrat, it's a "borrow-and-spend" Republican. True conservatives don't start wars with people who haven't attacked us. True conservatives don't expand the role of government in every aspect of our lives or meddle in personal medical issues. True conservatives don't betray the identity of CIA agents to punish those who discover their lies. Bush's government is corrupt and amoral to the core, while portraying themselves as model Christians. It's almost enough to make me register as a Democrat (almost).
Alito joined this organization as a 20-something, and apparently never actively participated. Your attempt at guilt-by-association in this case is like saying every registered Democrat must thereby support the race-baiting demagoguery of Al Sharpton. Grasping at straws doesn't help your case (or Ted Kennedy's).
If this author is correct and Hillary is the Democratic nominee, we're guaranteed four more years of a Republican President. Why is the Democratic Party suicidal?
Finley is NOT the "poster girl for the First Amendment", she is the poster girl for self-indulgent exhibitionism. No one is censoring her. She can do all the "performance art" she wants, and anyone who thinks this silliness is "art" is welcome to pay for it. Personally, I wouldn't go see it if she paid ME. Frankly Scarlet, who gives a damn?
I have to echo what many other writers have already said - this "immigration reform bill" is the result of an unholy alliance between bleeding hearts who seem to think the United States should open its doors to all the underpriveldged of the world and rapacious businessmen who like nothing more than a plentiful supply of really cheap labor. I'm sick of people like Shapiro running on about the illegals only taking jobs Americans don't want. That tired argument may apply to jobs such as stoop labor in the fields and dishwashers in big city restaurants, but it certainly doesn't apply to formerly high paying jobs in construction, meat packing and several other areas. Recently some large apartment complexes have gone up in my home town in West Virginia and the overwhelming majority of the workers were imported out-of-state Spanish speakers, and there were several busts of illegals. My state has MANY resident unemployed workers eager to pound nails, put up drywall and paint in contruction jobs, but they aren't being hired. Ted Kennedy and his ilk claim to be friends of the working man, but they sure as hell aren't friends of labor in the old sense of supporting unions and high wages.
Who really gives a damn what Sheehan does or doesn't do? A long time ago most people realized she is an attention freak with nothing to contribute. She's as relevant as last year's gossip column.
OK, the APA and Salon are clear on what they're against in getting information, now how about someone addressing how the military, CIA, etc. should get information from a detainee. There really are people out there who want to kill us, and who will happily blow up anyone they consider an infidel. The two attacks on the WTC happened, so did the bombing of the Madrid train station and London subways just to name a few. So, how do we ethically interrogate someone in a way likely to obtain information that could prevent another terrorist attack?
For God's sake Democrats, please don't nominate Hillary! I'd like to cast a vote in the next election and Edwards is the only candidate I could wholeheartedly endorse. Obama is a possibility, but no way in Hell will I vote for Hillary. Since I can't stand any of the current front-running Republicans either, if Hillary is the Democratic nominee I'll probably end up only voting in local races and spending election night in a drunken stupor.
The debates don't matter anymore. Most people have made up their minds. If Obama wins the nomination, I'm voting for him in November. If Clinton wins, I'm voting for McCain.
Nuff said.
I've already said I'm one of those who will vote for Obama if he's the Democrat nominee, and McCain if it's Clinton. Starting with Bush-1, 4 years; Clinton-1, 8 years; Bush-1, 8 years; this country has already had TWENTY YEARS of Bush/Clinton. I simply can't stand the thought of another eight years of Clinton-2 which would make half my life with a Bush or Clinton as president. Enough already.
Never, never, ever - must be one of those metrosexual things.
For crying out loud, who the hell cares? This isn't news, it's gossip.
What most impressed me, or rather depressed me, was how much McCain sounded like a warmongering Bush-clone. God help us if he's elected because we'll be at war with Iran next, then maybe even with Russia over Georgia. Why not throw in North Korea while he's at it. But while they die by the thousands, he'll support the troops.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
