Critical Thinking about Issues
[Read the article: Chris Matthews is right ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Glenn Greenwald could not be more correct about the lack of substance in the media's coverage. For example, when Barack Obama was asked about his fiscal policy ideas prior to the Iowa caucus, he went into a long explanation about increasing spending in education and evening the "playing field." Not one media source identified that Obama apparently does not know that fiscal policy does not mean spending money, it means figuring out how to manage a government budget, monetary policy, work with the FED, manage the budget deficit etc. Hillary Clinton clearly understands fiscal policy. She said "I have done this before, I know what to do" and harkened back to the 1990's when the Clinton administration paid back the budget deficit and left the country in the 1990 boom economic times with a budget surplus by 2000. If Obama doesn't know what fiscal policy is, I doubt he is ready for the President's office. It is scary that all those college educated folks who support Obama don't seem to know what fiscal policy is either. Democracy doesn't work if we can't make informed choices about the candidate for whom we vote and why we are voting for them (based on issues and the candidate's answers to those issues).

Republicans Do Not Like Democratic Change Makers
[Read the article: How bashing Hillary backfired]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Hillary is bashed in the media because the Republican party does not like the fact that she champions social change, fiscal responsibility, and reasonable international policies. The more the Republicans think a democratic change maker is making headway, the stronger their attack. I think the media bashing Hillary endures due to her effective work for change in a horrible Bush administration has earned her the title of "change maker." The Republican party will resist and then attack anyone who tries to counter their positions on things.
It is naive to think that being a nice guy, calling for change, adopting a civil rights movement type persona will get anything at all done. Remember, Kennedy had been a U.S. senator for eight years before he became president. Bill Clinton had been a Governor of a state for 10 years. When did any of us in the workforce go to the CEO position after working for the company for 2 years?

Kerry's endorsement of Obama
[Read the article: How bashing Hillary backfired]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Kerry's endorsement of Obama speaks volumes about Obama as a politician rather than the civil rights leader and agent of change image he is working like a whore on a Saturday night. Is there a better way to x out who Obama believes is a spoiler (Edwards) than to have the old Senator discredit Edwards by endorsing Obama? Kerry is the most moderate of democrats, not really an endorsement you'd expect unless Obama is also a moderate democrat (moderation does not mean "change" or a new tomorrow) mirrored his own beliefs about the Democratic party. I wonder if Kerry is making a bid to be the vice president hanger on of Obama's campaign? Remember everyone, Kerry lost last time. Let's think critically, fellow Americans!

Camille Paglia Mysoginist
[Read the article: Hillary without tears]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Still harping on the old topics. Please accept the fact that all women are not your mother and your poor neotiation of the oedipal conflict is no reason to turn off your brain, Ms. Paglia.

Hillary's Iraq Vote
[Read the article: Why I'm still not for Hillary Clinton]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Let me remind everybody...There was only one person in the congress and the senate who voted "no" to Iraq. A female politician from Oakland, California. Barack Obama wasn't there yet. His mentor, John Kerry, voted yes to Iraq.
This is a representative democracy. Hillary Clinton was representing the people of New York and their wishes when she voted for the Iraq war. In addition, the Republican president lied to everyone about nuclear weapons in Iraq at the time. Colin Powell showed pictures of alleged weapons transports at the UN and satellite photographs of weapons manufacturing plants. Hillary, like the rest of us, trusted Bush to tell the truth, not manufacture it. She believed the president and followed the dictates of her conscience and represented the people of New York. Do you wish she would have been divisive then?

Obama's authentic voice
[Read the article: Obama: "I am still fired up and ready to go"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Here is what is bothering me about Barack Obama: He is a fabulous orator. When he speaks, I am enthralled. I remember listening to tapes (I'm 42 years old) of Martin Luther King's speeches and am inspired by Obama's words. But, has Barack adopted a false persona to play on people's longing for a return of leaders like Martin Luther King? MLK came from a Southern Baptist tradition of preachers who orated at the pulpit at church. Why do Obama's best speeches sound like he too comes from a Southern Baptist background? Why does Obama pronounce 'Mississippi' with a southern drawl, like 'Mississippa' when he says he is from the South side of Chicago and was raised by his white mother and white grandparents?
I am all for the first African American president. I think it is about time to do this. I truly want this for our country, to heal the racial divide. But I want a president who has some experience and has earned my trust and respect. Obama is smart, a Harvard Law School graduate who went to private schools, then spent a couple years working with the down and out in Illinois and then skyrocketed to positions of power in the Illinois senate. He is a great politician and orator. He is not however, a civil rights leader like MLK or Huey Long. Why is he pretending to be?
