Original article: Stalking Hillary

Have you no sense of history?

One of the weakensses of the Democratic party is they are oblivious to the weaknesses of their candidates. Hillary Clinton's persisently high negatives should be flashing a warning light among all the D's who just want to win, which right now is most of them. Should the D's be stupid enough to nominate her they have a reasonably high probability of losing what should be a lead pipe cinch run for the White House. What's even scarier is they apparently can't even envision what single issue triviality the R's will use to hijack the Sept -Oct election cycle. I'll give you a clue. The Arkansas cattle future trades that turned a 1000 into 100k( or some such number). No democrat will bring this up in the primaries, it's old news. Then we'll all be surprised when the election turns on endless discussions of "is Hillary corrupt? " Hillary's suporters will tell you how she will fight back, unlike Kerry. I'm sure she will. But unlike Kerry, she really was ethically challenged on this one. It's a small point you say. Yes, but have you no sense of history? The R's always crystallize the election on some small simple to understand issue and saturation bomb the D's. Not to worry though D front runners seldom get nominated.

you need a better inflation calculator

let's see late 60's early 70's, new car 2500,year of tuition at ivy league school 2500, new house 30K, gas 30 cent, today most of these are up by factor of 10-15x. so the deflator from 1970 should be 10x at least. Now go back to 1923 and price of car 250, new home maybe 2500. let's guess and say the deflator from 1923 to 1970 is also 10x .that makes the total deflator 100 -150x. and thus the price of yankee stadium in today's dollars is more like 230-370 million, which is not out of line with most stadiums of the modern era. (ah but if you were the bureau of labor statistics you'd have to adjust for quality improvements and thus show that most new stadiums are cheaper in quality adjusted real dollars than yankee stadium )

just sayin'

Original article: The McCain cartoon satire

not a good analog

in order for this to be a mirror image parody the cartoon would have to be much more savage. McCain as a traitor while a prisoner in vietnam, McCain as the Manchurian candidate. McCain as a skirt chaing tailhook navy aviator. Then we would see if the right wing is nearly as tolerant of satire as they claim. I expect a McCain as traitor cartoon presented as satire wold go right over their heads and the McCain camp would be screaming about how this demeaned a war hero. Trying to explain that this was satirizing the left would be pointless

I can't top this

I subscribed to the WSJ for over 25 years before getting so tired of reading the nonsense on their editorial pages(star wars works, supply economics performed as advertised, to name a couple) that I stopped subscribing. Then you had to reprint this this stinking mass of brain phlegm and raise my blood pressure 30 points. This piece is so bad you have to ask: do the WSJ editorial writers check their brains at the door when they sign in every morning?

Better wits than I have already pointed out the flaws. But then the WSJ op-ed page never claimed to be part of the reality based community

kirk is overacting- again

not that often someone misses that point as obtusely as kirk.

It's real simple, let me spell it out for you. the series of panics post civil war to 1932 caused progressively larger cycles of econ0mic behavior. Post great depression there was an understanding by most americans that a certain amount of government oversight, intervention and regulation is necessary to keep this system on the rails. along comes ron regan and the GWBush. their domestic agenda is to undo the New Deal. (recall the attempted privatization of soc sec after bush's re-election)

what did they want to replace this with. why just ask karl rove. he wanted a McKinley style robber baron lead america. bush has been clear about this as well. my base: "the haves and the have mores". If you don't have assets of at least .1 Unit ( 10Mill) you are not a friend of George.

why McCain will lose

1. There have been no bald presidents since kennedy went hatless at his inauguration

2. gas stations too near polling places

3. americans take No-Knoz to forget that they ever supported this war

4 McCain saying "my friends" reminds voters of fingernails on a chalkboard

5 acts as his own spiro agnew, needs to call rent- a- thug

6 mashup of old flip flopper Kerry ad with mcCain's pix subbed

7 McCain will reprise lloyd Bentsen's line in 2nd debate and mangle it

8 Ghost of Tim Russert will appear and ask McCain difference between Sunni and Shiite, Iran and Iraq , for that matter

9 Mc Cain will hurl one of george carlin's 7 words at helen thomas in 3rd debate

10 Will oversleep and miss final debate
