I am not a prude, but I find this commentary tasteless and not at all funny. As a new subscriber, i am disheartened.
My dear old friend Christopher was once major domo for a society lady who set a dessert table for folks to enjoy after chamber music soirees. He insisted that along with the flowers and cakes and finger sandwiches that there always be a few pies.He stated with authority of one who knows from experience that when given a choice of desserts, "men like pie!" And it's true; we do.
Regardless of whether this might or might not be creepy, the poem and the poet compel introspection. This tortured woman was truly gifted. Thanks for posting it on Salon.
i stopped reading ...this glib ignorance of the facts makes me STOP READING!
Stefan is Finnish? Is this a factoid invented to be clever? Though i agree with Heather's assessment of Hosea and Jaimie's culinary sloppiness, the rest of her "witty" critique reads like a very good high school journalist's effort to be glib. Forced, fumbling and way off the mark.
Didn't anybody read 1984? Living in fear of Big Brother until he is embraced is explained in Brainwashing101. Torturing 17-year-olds and then releasing them to tell about it is only one tool to quell a rebellion. Publishing unsubstantiated pictures and narratives of such an event is yet another tool. Informing on neighbors who defy the party line is standard procedure and heightens paranoia. Hooray for covert tactics to combat this madness . "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance."
