Original article: Little girls gone wild

Somethign you never think about Playboy...

Every Young Man reads Playboy at some point in their life...not just look at it, utilize it for inspiratoin, but actually read the words on politics, art, etc...

How does that influence male sexuality? How does the association of high intelectual ideals and well written fiction with female sexuality effect men?

For my part, although I've dated many a woman who didn't look exactly like a Playmate, I've never considered dating one who couldn't discuss the geopolitical affairs of the day.

Getting back to the Bratz, and the evils of tween sexuality, it firstly should be pointed out that the BRATZ do not have sex, although a healthy interest in boys is a part of their animated advenutres, it is more a background issue second place to the more traditional cartoon moralities of friendship, loyalty, and honesty to ones self. Their interest in fashion is perhaps a little over the top, but like Gem and the holograms before them, their perhaps risque outfits are for themselves, not for other people.

Fashions since the sexual revolution have been increasingly sexual, and little girls who have an interest in fashion usually want the fashion their moms and older sisters and baring that adult women around them wear when they are trying to be pretty.

A little girl dressing up as a bride doesn't make us worry that they'll run out and join a polygamist compound, there for dressing in outfits that are sparkely shouldn't make us fear that they will run out and find themselves a pimp.

At the end of the day, there are girls who will become hypersexualized at a young age. This will likely be due to a poor relationship with their parents, not the choice of clothes they wear.

Young girls may be dressing like little tramps, with their faces dollied up with rouge and wearing skirts. Not too long ago it was their desire to wear pants that would turn our unspoiled young girls into streetwalking hop heads. In the end, their real world behavior will be the result of their mother's instillation of proper values in their daughters (what ever their mother believes proper values are). And like generations of daughters before them they will accept or reject those morals and make their own life.

Worrying about children's dress is akin to worrying about their slang. Certainly, a child needs to know to dress and speak properly at some point in their life, but their choices to speak in txtez, or wear glitter lipgloss and hot pink when they are among their friends will likely not cause them to make bad choices that their parents behaviors did not already influence them towards.

In the end when it comes to popular culture, if the BRATZ or Barbie actually did have sex, or encourage sexual behavior in any way (as opposed to "sexualized" dress) then one might have an argument. I'd be more worried about quiet princesses in long dresses paitiently waiting for their prince to come, than I would about a teenage girl in heels, who is also an academic superstar and athelete.

It is not the media that is the concern, but the message, but even then, a parent's influence can't be discounted. Afterall, no child buys the BRATZ by themselves.

Not surprising...

Obviously not everyone in the Clinton Camp is so irrational as to think that her late come on will undo her failings early on.

Many people understand that, Senator Clinton fought hard, but just isn't going to win. Her late wins though impressive are suspect and at best inflamatory.

Her argument that Barak can't win one group just highlights the fact that Senator Clinton didn't win much larger core democratic constituancies.

Still, someone in her camp must be pushing the impossible dream stategy, which is doublely impossible in that if Senator Clinton did get the nomination, she'll likely not win the election, due to her weakness with other core groups.

For Hillary's long term political Career she should drop out soon and declare 100% support for Senator Obama, and ask her pledged delegates to vote for Obama.

That being said, that might not be the best outcome for Senator Obama. Since Senator Clinton has made such a show of staying in it till every vote is counted, it may give a bad image to her supporters if she leaves early, giving creedence to the ludicrious argument that she was forced out, and that the super delegates stole her election from her.

Better for Senator Obama, and the parties future, that Senator Clinton go all the way to the convention never conceeding, even though it is well known that Barak Obama has the votes and the delegates. Barak will continue his general election campaign with McCain, and in November, when Senator Clinton's votes are counted and she loses, she will graciously declare her support for the nominee in prime time (perhaps even introducing the choice of the people before he accepts his nomination).

This may result in further damaging her image among the democratic base, and result in her loss of her Senate seat, but little can be done about that, except of course the endorsement of President Obama, and an effort to give her an uncontested primary in New York.

In the end, Senator Clinton is irrelavent to this election, but her voters need to kept happy, and if the political theater of a "contested convention" is thier cost, then let them have a floor vote.

Senator Obama and Senator McCain both understand the need to get this election started, and it's not like the elections have waited for the Conventions in recent memory anyway.
