  • You can't be serious

[Read the article: GOP candidates mum on immigration]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This is an extremely biased article. Employers who hire illegal immigrants are not "legitimate". They are breaking the law, and should be put in prison. "Comprehensive immigration reform" is a joke. The borders of the United States need to be secured before any true reform can take place. Illegal immigrants have no right to be here and it is disgusting that they act like they do.

  • US troops will stay in Iraq

[Read the article: Improvement in Iraq: Trust Joe Klein and his secret sources]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This is a very good article, and the best thing about it is that it makes a real prediction that in all likelihood will come true: US troops will stay in Iraq at least until the end of the Bush presidency no matter what happens on the ground there. Congress does not have the guts to cut off funding. By the way, I have long believed that Time Magazine is a piece of crap.

Wow, calling for another attack on American soil to help them politically....Republicans sure are getting desperate....

  • Get a Clue

[Read the article: Lou Dobbs' secret plot to destroy the GOP]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Andrew Leonard: Are you a total moron or do you just play one on the internet? How could you watch Lou Dobbs and not know the answer to your question? Lou Dobbs is not a Republican. He's an "independant populist". Furthermore, he does not just want to secure the border. He also wants employers to be prosecuted for the crime of hiring and exploiting illegal workers. Removing the incentive for businesses to hire illegal immigrants is the only way to solve this problem. Giving illegals amnesty, legal status, a path to citizenship, whatever you want to call it, is fundamentally unfair and unjust to the people waiting to come to the U.S. legally as well as to legal workers. Also, granting amnesty will only make the problem worse by providing incentive for more illegals to come here. This is about more than the Hispanic vote. It's about doing what is right. Granting amnesty was wrong in 1986 and it would be even more wrong today.

  • OK

Aefred is absolutely right. You shouldn't call anyone a moron no matter how moronic their ideas may be. I'll try to think of this in the future. I've never been a good debater. I don't have much patience for mistaken ideas, but I'm getting better as I get older.

I believe that RealName makes a good point. I agree with many Libertarian ideas. I like the idea of letting immigrants come here freely. This would certainly cut down on a lot of governmemtal regulation and red tape to say the least. One problem with this is that they could take advantage of government social services, but Libertarians don't believe in these, so at least they are consistent. I just question the practicality of this idea given the current political and social realities of the United States.

  • Another Thing

[Read the article: Lou Dobbs' secret plot to destroy the GOP]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If I appeared to be changing my tune about immigration, the truth is that I view it as a complex and difficult issue that I don't have the answer for. I just believe that the proposed legislative "compromise" is not a very good idea. I think what bothers me the most are the arguments put forward by the pro-amnesty crowd. They appear very dishonest to me. Perhaps they are fooling themselves, but what this is is a repeat of 1986. It also bothers me that "undocumented workers" have the gall to demand legilization when they came here illegally in the first place.

  • 3 More Points

[Read the article: Lou Dobbs' secret plot to destroy the GOP]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There are those who believe that because you are against illegal immigration, you must be a racist. This is wrong. There are many reasons to oppose illegal immigration. Slanderous accusations of racism do not advance the pro-amnesty agenda.

There are those who argue that we are a nation of immigrants, but this is not the case for all those people who were born in the United States and are still here. We are not immigrants.

Some say that immigration has helped us in the past, but this is a different time now. It's 2007, not 1907, or 1807. If we want more immigrants to come here legally, then we should make the process more rational and fair for everyone in the world. Illegal immigration is unfiar to those who are waiting to come here legally.

  • Gonzales

    [Read the article: Gonzales' shame]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

When I heard what Gonzales said about his father, I was stunned. I can't believe that even the most miserable of people would have no good days in their life. To me his comment seems very isulting and stupid. Gonzales appears to have taken stupidity (as well as forgetfullness) to a whole new level.

  • Funny

[Read the article: White House: Obama too "intellectually lazy" to work here]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This is really comical. Considering the current occupent of the White House, it is ironic they would call Obama intellectually lazy. Of course those in the White House have mastered the art of saying the exact opposite of reality. They also like to appoint poeple to positions who are either incompetent or ideoelogically opposed to doing their job. For example, they have appointed people to regulate industry who is ideologically opposed to regulationg industry.
