@ blunderdog

Unless Natty-J thinks like this: I am great and smart and for those who are not like me, they are idiots and deadbeats and not deserving of empathy, let alone a helping hand. Which is a quite common personality type in America.

@blunderdog

I think it is a personality disorder, i.e. a mental illness. "Lack of empathy" is rarely "cured". It is passed down from generation to generation.

Original article: My Saab story

My politcal 9-3

The Wall Street Journal did a piece a year or so ago that identified the type of car you own is a reliable predictor of political affiliation. At the top of the Democrat list: Saab, something like 92% of Saab owners are Democrats.

I wanted a Saab since childhood, after seeing a Sonnett and 99 puttering around in the late '70s. I drive one now and given all the complaints (legitimate or not) about GM's role, I still really, really like my Saab. My daughter asked me if money was no object, what car would I buy? I thought and said, a Saab. Maybe a new convertible or classic. Most European luxury cars are vulgar-- Mercedes, BMW anyone?-- but Saab always appealed to my sense of understated elegance. I'm keeping my Saab forever.

I heard from reliable sources that you were involved in a love triangle with Sarah Palin and Ann Coulter. And also another one with Camille Paglia and Matt Drudge. Is it true Ann Coulter used to be a guy?

Salon is headed in the direction of Altercation, formerly on MSNBC.com

I read Altercation religiously even though it published the Eric Alterman version of Salon's Camille Paglia, Colonel what's-his-name or was it Major Dad? When Altercation moved to The Nation, I read it for a while but stopped looking at it month's ago because Alterman still gives Major Dad a forum. [Major Dad is a "thinking conservative militarist", that's how Alterman markets him and Major Dad promotes himself.]

I thought King was the best thing on Salon, along with Greenwald. With King's departure we're left with CamillefuckingPaglia? My guess is Greenwald will be gone soon, too.

Good-bye Salon, it was nice while you lasted.

Broadcast News

Brian Williams IS the William Hurt character from 'Broadcast News'. He's probably a bit brighter than Hurt's character but that's not saying much.

As an example of his mind set, Brian baby drove a Porsche GT2 after 9/11 because he realized, after the tragedy, that not everyone would be able to drive a car that costs around $200k. So he did what anyone would do in his position, he went out and leased a GT2.

What a patriot. What a feckin' Nancy Boy.

Here's the story from Esquire. Brian, you're such a tool:

Big Surprise!!!!

The Nation is reporting that the GOP stripped pandemic funding out of the stimulus bill:

http://www.thenation.com/blogs/thebeat/430261

LET THE MARKET HANDLE THE FLU PANDEMIC. Besides, it's all Bill Clinton's fault.

And Maine Senator Senator Susan Collins' web site, the "moderate" Republican, is a link to a Feb 5, '09, Wall Street Jnl article, that states, in part, when highlighting Collins anti pork measures:

After meeting with Mr. Obama, Sen. Collins expressed concern about a number of spending provisions, including $780 million for pandemic-flu preparedness. "I have no doubt that the president is willing to negotiate in good faith, that he wants to have a bipartisan bill," Sen. Collins said.

Cokie and GOP nepotism

Well, the repugnant Cokie Roberts is brother to Tommy Boggs, the chairman of the uber powerful GOP lobbying firm (disguised as a law firm) Patton Boggs.

Cokie is very good at getting the GOP message out.

my girl

Here's my totally unique and anecdotal story. I wanted a girl from the moment my wife(now ex) was pregnant 13 years ago.

Why? I thought that a girl born then--i.e. today, more or less--would have it much better than a girl born a generation ago. That is, she could do anything she wanted when she was older and her gender would perhaps help her at best or not hinder her at worst. The cultural pendulum, in my mind at least, was swinging in the direction of girls. And for the totally irrational reason, the likelihood of her growing up and being a serial killer was statistically insignificant.

How is she today? She is simultaneously a "girly girl" and a stand-out athlete in every sport she touches but especially in the ones she concentrates, a gifted student, adorable, witty, wise, a leader and friends with all. In short, she has an abundance of admirable traits and has the world in her hand.

This wasn't planned, I simply wanted a girl. She discovered her talents through serendipity and sticks with and works at the things she enjoys. I know I am lucky with a one in a million child but I have to think that some of this comes from her gender, not just her environment and genetics.

USA! USA! USA!

We Amerikans are not morans! Don't you know that if you come down with a serious disease here in Amerika, you can just raise money by having car washes, bake sales and benefit basketball games?

Geez. What a bunch of morans.

LSUTigers#1: Coming to America for economic freedom......

....Is like Humphrey Bogart going to Casablanca for the waters:

Captain Renault: What in heaven's name brought you to Casablanca?

Rick: My health. I came to Casablanca for the waters.

Captain Renault: The waters? What waters? We're in the desert.

Rick: I was misinformed.
