Original article: "Kill him!" again

Really?

There are thousands of people to hear Palin speak? How many of them are immediate family members, i.e. Brick, Bat, Club, Hose, Porch, Crag, Steam, Luger, Bob Sled, Luge, 100 meter dash, Foul Ball, Icing, Offsides, Touchdown, Thrust, Racket, Gully, Stream, Lug Nut.......................?

@ohiopolitico

A pathetic, simple-minded Hillary troll. Just the type of voter Palin was supposed to appeal to.

Maybe this is the 2008 version of Tawana Brawley.

The Grey Zone

Hey Stephanie!

Why don't you rent the Grey Zone and invite all the Hannah Montana fans in your life to the screening? You'll find all the actors there affecting English and Mamet-like Brooklyn accents [pace Steve Buscemi and Harvey Keitel]. And the realism! You could set up a facsimile of Canada (look up what Canada means in the Holocaust Encyclopedia-- it was a little spot in places like Treblinka. Or if you really want to find out, read "This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen" by Tadeusz Borowski) in front of your plasma tv and treat the kids to booty. The representation of the Holocaust in film is an entrenched and lively aspect of Holocaust historiography. Your snarky little review is oh so well informed and deserves to be ranked along side Pauline Kael's finest. Avant!

@ d.c. eric

It doesn't matter how the mantle is decorated as long as you can get the log in the fireplace.

I think 'hearth' is the analogy you were looking for. Mantle is suggestive of "up top"-- let's stick with topic!

Original article: The perils of privilege

@Anna68

Don't forget that "other" elite private university in Chicago, Northwestern. The U of I in Urbana is pretty good for a state school, even though Tom Cruise in "Risky Business", in his defining role as a mediocre, upper middle class suburban kid trying to get into Princeton, didn't think too highly of the ol' U of I.

Marcuse

David Gregory and his ilk have been co-opted, in the way Marcuse wrote, by his proximity to power. The cult of celebrity is the American zeitgeist. It doesn't matter what you do to get your 15 minutes, it only matters that you're on the tee-vee.

Grand Master Gregory's Wiki bio

Gregory was born in Los Angeles, California, the son of Carolyn Surtees, an account manager, and Don Gregory, a film and theatrical producer.[1] He was raised in the Jewish religion.[3] Gregory graduated from American University in 1992. While there, he worked for the campus television station, ATV, and received a degree in International Studies from the School of International Service. Gregory was named the School of International Service's alumnus of the year in 2005 and sits on the Dean's Advisory Council.[4][5]

Since June 2000, Gregory has been married to former federal prosecutor and former Fannie Mae executive vice president [emphasis added), general counsel and corporate secretary, Beth Wilkinson.[1] They met while Gregory was covering the Oklahoma City Bombing as a reporter and Wilkinson was serving as prosecutor on the case.[6] The couple have a son and twins - one daughter and one son.

Hmmmm. Gregory works for GE and his wife is formerly with Fannie Mae. Nah, nothing to see here, move along. Heeeyyyyyy look! Free popcorn! Yummy, I must go get some.

what fine print are you referring?

Oh, I get it, Obama is just a hapless pawn to the real power brokers that pull all the levers, like Dick Cheney and James Baker and such. Thanks for clearing that up, you are so brilliant. Let's start the impeachment process now. Whatever were we thinking!

run as fast as you can

Speaking from a wealth of experience, get out.

You sound like a super nice guy and Dee is totally taking advantage of you. Oh, sure, she could "recover" (not bloody likely) but that will take YEARS. Dude, it ain't worth it. And whatever you do, DO NOT HAVE CHILDREN WITH THIS WOMAN.

@ bluecanary

Are you bipolar, borderline personality disorder, clinically depressed, suffer from "social anxiety disorder" (sic), histrionic personality disorder, were you abused as a child, or any combination therein? Are you or were you a drug addict or alcoholic? If so, I have all the compassion in the world for you but I can't make you better and why, oh why, would I stick around and be sucked into your black hole of mental illness?

If you are emotionally healthy, then try marrying someone that suffers from just one of these, have a child, stay together for at least five years, and then come back and report to all the bitter and resentful men here how things are going.

Godspeed luv.

why i dislike the NFL

At 8:35pm CST, the clock read 5.30 to go. The game ended around 9:12 pm-- it took 37 minutes to play less than six minutes. Excruciating. I suppose I am in the minority but the endless "reviews" by the officials, the intricacies and Byzantine rules worthy of a Talmudic scholar (and which seem to get modified and tweeked every season), the television time outs, the on-field celebrations after the most mundane and routine of plays, etc., have completely alienated me from the NFL.

Helluva' game, otherwise.

@ IwouldPreferNotTo

Hmmmm. I think you were ridiculing me. I serve my little one PB&J sandwiches in her lunch frequently. [Granted, I purchase my provisions at Whole Foods.] You are right, she will grow up and then she can make her own feckin' sandwich with Ezekiel sprout bread and heavy on the fresh vegetables she grows in her own garden. I ain't got the time. I am too busy watching American Idol, Grey's Anatomy and 24. I wish she could make her own feckin' sammich right now! Ungrateful brat.

Let her eat cake. I am a bad and lazy parent.
