[Read the article: What Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer and Fred Hiatt mean by "bipartisanship"]

If Obama thinks he can get by without the votes of those who follow the FISA issue, who unequivocally believe it eviscerates the rule of law,

It shits all over the rule of law. They might as well give Gordon Liddy and the Watergate felons retroactive immunity, too. This bill sets a precedent: If the President tells you to do something illegal, you do it and you will never be punished for it. Someone who would vote for such a measure, or is too cowardly to try to stop it cannot be trusted with holding a government office. I guess if Blackwater's thugs shoot a bunch of people in the US, they can buy retroactive immunity, too.

who are willing to let McCain win over their own (principled) stand.

The rule of law and Constitution come first. If that means Obama loses, tough. This isn't a game where you try to win a trophy. It's a matter of liberty vs. fascism and call me old-fashioned, but I'm against fascism. You are obviously willing to live under it so long as the person in the White House has a "D" in front of his or her name.

BTW, as an aside, I think the belief that this episode exemplifies Obama "not having the guts to stand up to the Republitards" is a serious mis-reading of the situation.

Only to those who neither read nor write plain English. He's the equivalent of a receiver in football who drops a ball because he thinks he's going to get hit. The problem is, once the other side sees he's a coward, they will make it a point to hit him harder and harder because they know he's yellow and nobody wants to be shown up by a known coward.

I am sorry if you feel betrayed

    Don't patronize me.

and like I said, I am disappointed by his statement. But your means do not achieve your ends.

Sure they do. If enough people tell Obama's fundraisers to drop dead because of FISA, and if enough White Flag Democrats like Hoyer et al get primaried next time around, they can either learn a lesson or be defeated. Either they'll quit fighting tooth and nail against their own constituents while bending over and spreading for the Republitards, or they can be harassed and/or defeated. They pull this nonsense because there is no punishment. So I'm going to do what I can to punish them.

  • The article in TIME was repulsive

[Read the article: Obama's support for the FISA "compromise"]

I do a point-by-point rebuttal on my page, for anyone who's interested.

I'd like to see bloggers compile a "Shit List" of politicians who support this abomination of a bill, so people can remember and seek retribution through primary challenges against these tossers.

  • You can see a point-by-point rebuttal to the Time article here.

The most pathetic bit in that article had to be this part:

Pelosi had another reason for backing the compromise: unlike some on the left, she actually believes domestic surveillance laws needs updating in light of the new terror threats. “We can’t go without a bill,” she said on the House floor Friday, “That’s simply just not an option.” Existing U.S. surveillance law, passed in 1978, needs to be improved, she believes, not just to protect Americans at home but to protect U.S. troops in the field. “Our troops in the field depend on timely and reliable intelligence,” she said.

Let me get this straight: If the phone companies have to defend themselves in court when they break the law, American troops will be in danger, right? The level of stupidity is jaw-dropping. American troops are in danger, Speaker Pelosi, because you lied when you said you would try to end the war and bring them home. As the record shows, the Congress has not done a god damned thing to stop the war, nor are they going to. Instead, you give the Sadist-In-Chief MORE money than he asks for, MORE police state powers than he asks for, and immunity from civil and criminal law for his thugs.

  • Here's an idea: Let's import our political opposition!

    Here's an idea:

Morgan Tsvangirai just threw in the towel in the elections in Zimbabwe after his supporters were murdered, tortured etc by Mugabe's thugs. Since he's available, and political opposition is now one of those jobs homegrown Americans think is beneath them, why don't we just import him? We need political opposition that doesn't scare easily, and Tsvangirai needs a job and a new home.

Sounds more plausible than waiting for the Democowards to grow a pair.

  • New Republic-AN is more like it

[Read the article: The New Republic syndrome]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

They've always been fifth columnists for the Right. Back in the 1980s they were always supporting the death squads in Central America and added insult to injury by claiming the murder of nuns is a "liberal" position. The New Republic-AN licks its chops at any opportunity to egg on the murder of brown people, or to smear and harass those who might not want to join in.

This goes beyond the New Republic-AN. The MSM goes out of its way to promote these shysters, even though they are (a) wrong and (b) work for a magazine with a puny readership. The Nation. has MUCH bigger circulation and actually gets it right when it comes to political issues. But aside from Katrina Vanden Heuvel, how many of writers from The Nation. are regulars on news/talk shows? How about Mother Jones? Harpers?

The New Republic-AN is an open sewer of sadism, bigotry and dishonesty, yet news and opinion shows can't wait to plunge right in.
