they desperately want to change the subject away from the issues

Drudge rules their world because they let him do so. Period. And they let him because his sleazy tabloid gossip serves their all too obvious political agenda; and secondly, repeating manufactured smears is much easier than doing actual reporting of substance. It’s one part irresponsibility, one part laziness.

But it’s not working anymore. Despite all the smears, the popularity of Pelosi, Obama and Edwards has not been affected. Part of it is the public catching on to exactly how the smear machine works, and the other part is that Bush policies have been so disastrous that these personality issues aren’t part given the importance they once were.

The smear machine doesn’t want to talk about real issues because their “side” is on the wrong side of all of them, the public doesn’t agree with their positions; so the best they can do is change the subject to “personality” and hope that becomes the main issue.

Original article: Alberto Gonzales testifies

just doing his job

You folks are going to pillory Gonzales for approving a staff recommendation? About something that is none of their business?

It is the job of the Justice Department is to restrict voter turnout in key battleground states to ensure that Republican political candidates always win the election.

Their job, in this administration, is to make sure that State Attorney Generals indict prominent Democrats on bogus charges just before an election; and never, ever bring corruption charges against Republicans, no matter how much tax payer money goes toward prostitutes, girlfriend’s salaries and golf outings in expensive locales. This is their reward for being “loyal Bushies” and they deserve every penny of our tax dollars.

The job of the Justice Department is to ensure that no matter what the electorate wants, the Republican Party will always be in power.

Gonzalez, as the George Bush’s personal attorney/Attorney General of the United States of America has performed these tasks with the utmost precision and competence, and he retains the complete confidence of George Bush and Karl Rove.

The idea that the representatives of the American people (Congress) should be concerned about the total subversion of our democratic processes is preposterous. It’s simply none of their business what their government is doing. They need to stop asking these pesky questions, it’s disgraceful.

The Bush/Rove/Gonzalez insistence that the Republican Party should always win elections despite the fact that clear majority of the people totally disagree with them should not concern anyone.

There’s nothing to see here, let’s move on to real issues like John Edwards’ hair.

an "intra-bubble" theory brought into the sunlight

And say what you will about Malkin, Reynolds or Johnson, they aren't THAT stupid.

What’s interesting is that they promoting this story, but not prominently. Johnson says it’s “interesting” and Reynolds used the qualifier “if true” so they are covering their ass(s) just in case this “theory” gets too much attention.

In other words, they are trying to keep this one “under the radar” so that the “true believers” hear it and absorb it; but they really don’t want to answer questions about this one on CNN, believe me.

This is a “intra-bubble” story meant only for the hardcore Kool-Aid addicts only. I’m sure they’re not pleased at all that Glenn Greenwald brought it into the sunlight for everyone to see. Oh, how embarrassing.

But that’s happening more all the time, and they’re increasingly upset that they can’t spew their nonsense without being called on it. Limbaugh lost it this week over the “Stalinists” at Media Matters who dared to quote what he actually said. He didn’t like that at all.

If any of the people who Glenn cited actually believed this, the right-wing Wurlitzer would be in high spin mode promoting this. Drudge would have a “siren” up for gosh sakes. Politico would have an “exclusive” ….. but we all we get are a link or two saying, “heh, look over here” for the “true believers.”

Even they are a bit embarrassed by this one and, since Reynolds, Johnson (etc.) have no conscience and no sense of shame, that’s really saying something.

Original article: Various items

on being scared of Sheryl Crow...

How wonderfully rude of Crow and David to remind Rove otherwise.

The idea that liberals like Crow and David are actually “Americans” prompted the “always classy” Dan Riehl to post this about Ms. Crow:

….you're still just another bony-assed skank cleaned up by the music biz. You looked so hard when you first came up, I doubt you'd have built much of a line around a trailer in Missouri, even at 10 bucks a pop.

Rove was probably worried about STD's. Who knows, what with the company she keeps.

He then links to photo of her with Bill Clinton, as if proof that's she's just festering with sexually transmitted diseases, and says, "Shut up and sing ... better, yet, just shut up!"

Dan Riehl is a very frightened man. Too bad his macho act doesn't hide that at all.
