Re: Christopher Michael Neill

You have got to be kidding. You really think Glenn made that email up? Then he volunteered to give the messages to the military, and doesn't think that he would get caught? Glenn is a good writer, but not at writing that poorly written diatribe.

Yeah, its possible, in the same way it is possible that flying monkeys may come out of my posterior.

Boylan wrote it, pretended he didn't, and is too dumb to think anyone would call him on it. The military has no interest in investigating- they know their mail system was not hacked, and don't care to rein in their nutjob PR people. The only mystery is why Boylan is in his position with such poor writing and thinking abilities.

Letters

I have to say that Glenn's columns and commenters here are of a much higher caliber on subjects that I am interested in than almost anywhere else.

That said, can Salon's editors add a radio button on the top that says "view all comments except bebop-o's"? I get interested in a story, start reading through the comments, get into the discussion, then walk head on into Salon's most underemployed serial nonsense poster. Man, does he like to see his name on the screen.

Bebop-o, you are not adding anything to the discussion. There is a time and a place- this is not it.

Oh Please....Obama's Gaffe?

Please read your quotes with an eye to detail, not an eye to "gotcha".

Obama was saying that Albright was the face of foreign policy in the Clinton administration, not Hillary.

The fact that Albright supports Hillary is not surprising, and she does not say, yes, Hillary was running foreign policy.

There is no gaffe, and there is no story. I get so tired of these tired story lines. It is always "Obama makes mistakes and is inexperienced" and "Hillary is cold and manipulative". Either of these stories may have small grains of truth, but they are just cheap journalistic shorthand for "I don't really have anything to say."

More of the Same

You are missing some points here, Joe. Didn't Obama get 7% in the Iowa Republican Straw poll? Was that vote from Rove and the other spinmeisters?

Obama has support among (a small number) of Republicans not because they hate Hillary (which they do) but because he is intelligent, well spoken, calm, and shows no signs of mental illness, unlike the entire Republican field.

Forget Rove and the other hacks. Look at how well Obama is doing in (very white) Iowa and New Hampshire. People who say that America is not ready for a black president are stuck in the past. Obama is the sort of person that people feel confident with.

Original article: Obama's European problem

Obama v. Obama

Despite what all the Clinton and Obama supporters on here say, this is just another puff piece.

NOBODY cares about a minor subcommittee, except as an exercise in hot air. Does anyone here really think this is going to turn into "subcommitteegate"? This will not influence anyone to vote for or against. If there is something substantive to say about any of the candidates, give us a call. If not, shut up and stop demanding travel histories. This is the most un-newsworthy story since Edwards brushed his hair. And there was video for that story.

Can anyone say "Slow news day?"

Who Else?

This article was another bit of fluff. Candidates speak in vague terms to avoid being attacked? This is news?

I have grown to like Obama, he is articulate and intelligent. We really do not have any choice if we want to get away from the horrors of the Bush administration.

All of the Dem front runners have some flaws. Hillary's flaw is that half the country already hates her. Lots of luck changing people's minds on that one.

Edwards is a good candidate also, but because he took federal matching funds, he will be unable to spend any more money until August. He will be beaten bloody by the Republicans by then.

I will vote for any of the three if they get the nomination (Look at the crazies on the Rep side as they fight for the Bush supporter vote). Stop being so Democratic partisan. Support your favorite, let the process run, and support whoever wins.

Hillary and the Press

When you ignore the press bus, then show up for 90 seconds just before the caucus, you do run the risk of appearing to be sucking up as your poll numbers slip. These things are far more complicated than high school elections, but at the same time it is hard to fake sincerity. Just ask Romney (who is being beaten by a squirrel eating baptist preacher). It really is about more than talking points. Personality is in play.

Obama in Iowa

I saw the photo of Obama giving his winning speach in Iowa, and was expecting to see it on the Onion with the headline-

"Black Family in Iowa Surrounded by White Mob"

Yep, it is a strange country, with a huge nutjob segment of society. If Hillary was the candidate, they call her a lesbian and a murderer, Edwards they call effeminate and a faggot, and Obama they call a muslim jihadist and make racist comments about him.

You cannot argue or convince these people, and they get worse when fanned by Limbaugh and O'Reiley and Fox news.

These are the people that we are fighting, and they are the same people who brought Hitler to power in the 30's in Germany. Every day I am glad that George W Bush was our president during this period (rather than someone like Rumsfeld or Cheney). Bush's total incompetence is all that stood between us and a police state. Although it is hard to believe, the last 7 years could have been worse. Get out the vote and lets "send these people back to their caves".

Obama Advantage

Hey, I just thought of one advantage Obama has over other candidates- the networks. They broadcast those Swift Boat smears, but I bet money they would reject ads that were racist in any way.
