For months I've been wondering where the elder Bush has been hunkering down while his son carries us all to Hell in his saddlebags. Now I know. He's been pumping up the family where he thinks people are still susceptible to the hype, myths and veneer of political success. (as in "We got the titles", not as in "We made the world better") Doesn't he know there ISN'T any such place anymore?
The most amazing thing about this incident is that he was shocked when G.W. was ctiticized loudly and soundly. The second most amazing thing is that his response was to spout his son's nonsense verbatim. I thought G.H.W. was too smart to say something about "not listening to polls". And I thought he had enough integrity to place our ill-used and abused military, citizens and constitution above the miserable failure on a monumental scale of his bad-apple son. I thought that apple fell pretty far from the tree. Maybe I was wrong. Or maybe G.H.W. is so concerned about the family and it's "legacy", that he's willing to scrape up his rotten apple and claim it's an American pie. While the rest of us die on the vine.
Shame on you G.H.W.Bush. Shame. Shame.
Here's a question for Rush. When did Iraq come to us and ask us to fix everything? When has any Middle Eastern country come to us and asked us to "fix" the Middle East.
I know that the administration is now trying to be indignant about the whole Iraq War fiasco....with Bush claiming he's not "happy" with Iraq, as though he is merely supervising their own inept and self-initiated attempts at fostering "freedom". And the rest of the neocons voicing annoyance and displeasure that the Iraqi's and their "government" aren't stepping up to the plate. Is it possible they have all forgotten how this mess began? Is it possible that they think going on the offensive will distract anyone from the role they have played and the responsibility they bear?.
And now the worst. A childish tirade more appropriate for a five-year-old than the man with whom this administration chooses to align itself. It's not just Rush. It's symptomatic of the petulant, "because I say so", and what's-reason-got-to-do-with-it culture of incompetence and action for the quick leg up. It wasn't a "slam dunk", it wasn't "mission accomplished". So they need to shut up or try to exhibit some intelligence and interest in addressing this problem on a level more befitting a world power, and less indicative of what we should have expected from a lazy, over-indulged, intellectually-challenged career loser.
Sorry...but as long as the right shelters people who can be as ridiculous as Rush Limbaugh, it's not over 'til it's over, even inspite of November 7. He's spouting the party line regarding the lack of respect for diplomacy, he just took it down to juice-box level.
