A compliant citizenry

of course, it's not just about a functioning political press, although that is a large piece of it... it's also about the docile, stuff- and entertainment-addicted, willfully self-deluded citizenry... it's not like the reality of bushco is completely hidden and impossible to dig out... the american people have been all to compliant in the ceaseless campaign of the elites to abdicate thinking for themselves and thus arming themselves with the information necessary to function as effective monitors of their own elected government...

Good

drag him in front of the committee and, if he doesn't sing like a canary, bring in jack bauer, and have jack use a few "enhanced interrogation techniques" until he spills the beans...

Not a moment to lose

there can be no more delay... we've put off the inevitable for far too long... every day that passes, the danger to our constitutional republic increases dramatically... what's even worse is that in-your-face confrontation is only going to increase the danger, a reason perhaps why it hasn't been yet undertaken, but, seriously, what other choices do we have...?

every congressperson and every 2008 presidential candidate from BOTH parties ought to be sounding the alarm from every courthouse tower in every county seat in the country... the republic is in serious danger and there's not a moment to lose... george and dick not only have to go, every unconstitutional provision that they've put in place to exercise unfettered power has to be EXORCISED prior to 20 january 2009... i don't want ANY of those power levers available to ANY president of ANY party...

please understand

the unspoken, unwritten bush administration agenda is to insure that the united states is engaged in endless, interminable war... there has never been any intent to either stabilize iraq or to withdraw... the so-called national debate on what happens next between the u.s. and the tragic country that we have taken from bad to infinitely worse is nothing more than an illusion, a deceitful distraction, designed to keep us thinking that the issue is open for discussion... it's not...

think about it... why the persistence in connecting iraq with the war on terror...? it's obvious... the war on terror has already been declared as a multi-generational war, a war that will never be won, and, if the public can be convinced that the war in iraq equates to the war on terror, by extension, it will never end... so, what does endless war do for those who espouse it...? again, think about it... all you have to do is follow the money... who stands to profit most from an endless war...? who stands to see their positions of power strengthened and perpetuated...?

"Blathering"

"talking foolishly" ISN'T what i think is happening here and i think you destroy your own case when you says that "staying in iraq is always the only real goal"... if the "blathering" were being done "foolishly," it wouldn't have a goal... instead, i believe it is being done consciously and deliberately...

Article I, Section 9: No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed

isn't retroactive immunity also unconstitutional...? according to the meaning of "ex post facto Law" as contained in Article I, Section 9 of the Constitution:

Ex post facto

ex post facto adj. Formulated, enacted, or operating retroactively. [Med Lat., from what is done afterwards] Source: AHD

In U.S. Constitutional Law, the definition of what is ex post facto is more limited. The first definition of what exactly constitutes an ex post facto law is found in Calder v Bull (3 US 386 [1798]), in the opinion of Justice Chase:

1st. Every law that makes an action done before the passing of the law, and which was innocent when done, criminal; and punishes such action. 2d. Every law that aggravates a crime, or makes it greater than it was, when committed. 3d. Every law that changes the punishment, and inflicts a greater punishment, than the law annexed to the crime, when committed. 4th. Every law that alters the legal rules of evidence, and receives less, or different, testimony, than the law required at the time of the commission of the offense, in order to convict the offender.

i realize that it is the exact opposite of the stipulation in "1st" that would apply here ("Every law that makes an action done before the passing of the law, and which was criminal when done, innocent; and exonerates such action), but it would seem to me that passing a law guaranteeing retroactive immunity would violate the spirit if not the letter of Article I, Section 9... what say you...?

Neither incompetent nor slothful

klein's obfuscation, like that of his masters, is deliberate... i simply do not understand why we continue to perpetuate the myth of the kind of so-called "journalism" that klein represents as incompetent or slothful... there's an agenda afoot here, the very same agenda we saw operating in the 12 december 2000 scotus decision that gave birth to the rolling coup d'etat that has been inexorably advancing for the past seven years... is there incompetence...? sure... take a 360-degree sweep and it's omnipresent... but there's also the agenda, an agenda that has systematically undermined the very foundations of the republic, an agenda that, until fairly recently, with the help of folks like yourself, glenn, dennis kucinich, naomi wolf, paul craig roberts, bruce fein, and others, has remained hidden... the role of joe klein and others of his ilk is no different than the public figures who pursue the same agenda and wear the same camouflage - joe lieberman, dianne feinstein, nancy pelosi, steny hoyer, and hillary clinton, to name a few... you would do all of us a great service, glenn, if, besides pointing out klein's lies, you would expound on WHY someone like mr. klein operates as he does, in spite of being caught out numerous times...

klein can't betray his masters

the real story here, glenn, is that joe klein has been caught red-handed, doing what he and the others of his ilk have been doing all along... what's so amazing is that it takes someone like you - tenacious, unrelenting, thorough, and fearless - to dog the footsteps of someone like klein, grab him by his elbow, and twist it until he yells "uncle..." when he has occasionally been caught out in the past, there may have been a short-lived kerfuffle, but not the balls to the wall, take no prisoners approach you are taking... while the imagery of those last two metaphors may connote violence, that isn't how you are going about it... your tenaciousness is the tenaciousness of the truth, something the joe kleins of the world abandoned a long time ago in favor of doggie treats from their handlers...
