I'm absolutely horrified if that report is true. I thought (please correct me if I'm wrong) that a sex offender on parole was REQUIRED to consent to all searches as a condition of parole. Is that a more recent development? I can't fathom why police would not have searched a known sex offender's home.
I said it before, but this guy Garrido seems to be among the most privileged of federal sex offenders. He appears to have gotten all kinds of courtesies from his neighbors and local police. Thank heavens for that saavy paole officer who just knew something was up with Garrido.
Mental illness is not just a nasty personality. There are killers out there who clearly are rational. They mutilate and torture and no one thinks they're mentally ill because the motive is usually money or revenge of some kind. Just because we don't understand the motive of sexual torture and domination doesn't mean it doesn't make logical sense to the perpetrator.
Mental illness is not something that one is able to switch on and off. It's a condition that one who is afflicted with cannot control. Garrido may say he talks to god but that doesn't stop him froom building a soundproof shed in his backyard in order to keep the authorities and prying neighbors from knowing he has others in his home. That's awfully cautious and reasoned behavior, continued for nearly two decades I might add.
In fact, Garrido is a very high functioning criminal given his past. Despite many years in federal prison, he had a "family", a home and some type of income. I'm surprised that a federal sex offender was able to live in a suburban community with so little trouble. Meanwhile, street corner drug addicts are homeless along with the truly mentally ill.
What's wrong with you???
This girl's story is not political in any way and it's ugly that you inject such trivia into it. As for the rapist-husband, her family actually had to pay HIM for the divorce. In these cultures, such a young girl should NOT have had intimate relations with a man. This was pure abuse and exploitation. I'm sure it's not the first time but it's an outrage all the same.
However, having abnormal behavior and antisocial behavior does not make one mentally ill. There are plenty of rational people out there who just don't give a damn about others. They think their own needs must come first. Some may have a biological problem but most are just maladapted personalities.
My perspective is that anyone who can successfully carry out a crime for nearly 2 decades is just not mentally ill. There is no break with reality, just a driving need to meet one's own needs and to do it by choosing a vulnerbale person.
Garrido is still trying to manipulate and con his way through a trial. I m appalled that a television station aired his interview so soon after this poor woman and her 2 children returned to their true family. Hopefully, the Dugard family will know to keep the t.v. and radio off and just try to bond with their long-lost family members.
While Anne Heche is a loony a-hole, her situaton clearly shows that courts ARE becoming more equitable in divorces. The person with the greater income will end up paying the other party, regardless of gender. Her ex also shares custody with Heche, another step toward equity. The bad old days of dad getting shut out are basically over in most states. As long as a marriage has taken place, a father will be able to share custody or even get full physical custody if the situation warrants it. That said, unmarried fathers have many hoops to jump through and can still get screwed over, but that's the legal system we have.
That's the next logical question. Anne Heche is a talented actress but she's also a world-class jackass. It's not just mean to hurl ugly insults at her ex on national t.v., it's embarressing to their child who is old enough to understand her ranting. She needs to show some class.
It's not just the risks or comeptition, which few under 5 really understand. It's how limiting running/swimming/biking a specified distance or track is for small children. Anyone who has worked with them knows how amazing the minds of young cildren can be. They can create totally different and unexpected events out of a simple walk or bike ride. Should adults be cheering them on from the sidelines to "keep pedalling, Johnny!" Johnny probably wants to go in circles next.
I just enrolled my 4 1/2 yr old son in gymnastics. The clincher for me was this: the gleeful look in my my son's eyes when he saw the rope and trampoline and the recommendation of a friend's daughter. She said it was really, really fun.
CeliainSF is correct. Why did Salon fail to report the entirety of the statement?
The incident where Rihanna was shoved was instigated by Rihanna who slapped Chris Brown. In addition, the Barbados incident was a violent argument by BOTH where Chris Brown essentially damaged a vehicle.
Shoving, punching, slapping...it's all wrong. Rihanna and Chris Brown clearly had a relationship where no lines were drawn on dealing with conflict. The final episode hopefully demonstrated to Chris Brown that his abusive childhood was not behind him and that he needed help. However, his alleged history of abuse is hardly in keeping with that final incident and seems more a shared pattern of poor behavior on the part of both.
Kate may be miserable alone, but she doesn't need any help.
I guess the fact that 95% of prisoners eventually return to their communities has eluded you. That's one way that disease clearly spreads from former prisoners but less rehabiltiation and fewer skills will hardly drive down that problem. Having access to decent medical care and education behind bars (lol) is probably the best solution that I can see.
