Cindy McCain's Not Old but...

Cindy McCain's not old but she has had more than her share of illness. Many years ago it was her back or hip or whatever that drove her to pain-killer addicition. Then, she had a stroke which almost killed her. She's not too healthy although she looks pretty good and is only in her early 50's.

@donut44

Russia doesn't want Germany and France so please put that little conspiracy theory to rest. Putin wants to bring back a Russian Empire of some sort. The Ukraine and Georgia are high on that list. Unfortunately, Bush has basically ignored Putin's bullying antics for several years, giving the dictator plenty of reason to believe he will do nothing now...and he's right! For all the talk, there will be nothing done in Georgia by the US. Sakashvili is as good as gone already. To be fair though, he DID attck civilian targets giving Putin a way to frame the international argument to his own advantage. Stupid move by Sakashvili.

That Does it...

I'm not watching. I'm tired of the relentless kowtowing to the bitter brigade. I'll catch what I want on the Internet. See you in the fall Hillary with your bright smile pasted on and your fingers crossed behind your back.

@jeb

Your equating of sexism today to racism 50 yrs ago is perhaps the dumbest thing you have ever written. 50 yrs ago, blacks were forced to sit in the back, excluded from many schools, and had their personal civil rights violated by whites in authority with no legal recourse. Is that really the state of women today? Really Jeb? Get real!

Hillary Clinton suffered through some bad jokes by talking heads. Boo hoo.I'm sure there were a handful of morons who wouldn't vote for her because she's a woman, but with 17-18 million votes in her column, it doesn't appear to have damaged her at all.

As an educated woman, I find it completely insulting to equate the fight for basic rights to a person having to put up with sophomoric jokes by the like of Chris Matthews. That's just stupid.

@Jeb

Again, you're talking nonsense. Our perceptions of sexism aren't the same as the perceptions of racism 50 yrs ago either. Many people decades ago complacently accepted concrete abuses and concrete lack of opportunity for both people of color and women. To suggest that our society hasn't fundamentally changed is simply bizarre and totally unfounded.

If anything, the greatest barrier that women face is at the very highest levels of business where their usual role as primary caretaker gets in the way of corporate drive to demand nothing short of one's life to a company. However, in professions such as academia, law and medicine (just to name a few), women have made tremendous strides towards equality with men. Our society has changed. As for racism, the residual effects are still felt by many blacks. This however is more a function of cyclical poverty than color of one's skin. Education has been and can be the great transformative engine for both women and blacks.

To sum it up, your posts about how women are disadvantaged are highly simplistic and grounded in emotional anger. You seem to lack any basic understanding of how discrimination works and how it has been and continues to be overcome.

However, using Hillary Clinton as an example of discrimination is beyond laughable. She has had more opportunities and advantages than most people, not just women. She deserves no ones pity. Perhaps if you were able to examine her candidacy with something more than just emotional passion, you might be able to honestly assess the factors that hurt her in concrete ways, such as poor fundraising models, bad ground organizations and too many paid advisor hacks. It should be monumentally clear that the intermittent nasty and sexist jibes sent her way by some in the media did not hurt her in any concrete way. they were simply offensive and embarrassing to the speaker.

Score One for Team Obama

Finally, this is the fight I have been expecting and I'm glad it's here for all to see. So many people castigated Obama for not taking public funding and it was even reported here that there didn't appear to be many groups gearing up to take down Obama a la Kerry in '04. Well, I guess Obama had the right idea, didn't he? He knew the Right Wing Smear Machine was going to go after him hard and he came prepared.

As for Corsi, he looks like a bit of a nutjob. I personally hope he is on every major news program because he will be embarrassing for GOP and Matalin (god, that lady's stupid to co-sign on this book).

This body blow by the Obama campaign is just what I wanted to see. Now, it's time to go after McCain in similar fashion.

@Jeb

To be fully factual, you should note that neither Obama's father nor his stepfather were PRACTICING muslins. Obama's father as a teenager rejected Islam and was atheist. In addition, Obama's family is not historically muslim. His grandfather CONVERTED from Christianity to Islam as an adult.

LoLo Soetoro was not a practicing muslim either. He drank alchohol as did Obama's father. The household in Indonesia where Obama grew up did not observe the muslim traditions. In fact, Obama cites the growing westernization of LoLo as a source of tension in the marriage with his mother who developed an appreciation for the culture of Indonesia.

The problem with repeating the "Obama was raised muslim in some way blah, blah, blah" line is two-fold. First, it's false. secondly, it highlights a narrative designed to play on people's ignorance.

Hubby is Spoiled and Doesn't Know It

How fortunate is the LW's husband to have ALL of his education paid for, including medical school? That is a very unlikely scenario for most families. Huge educational debt is problematic but it is also normal. Very few families can afford to save what it costs to fund a 4 yr college much less medical school as well. The husband needs to grow up and face the real world.
