Not the Best they Can Do by far

Why aren't the DNC and MoveOn AND Obama all attacking McCain on the real problem with off-shore drilling, the fact that the only people who tangibly benefit are oil companies?

This whole "lowering prices at the pump" is a bogus lie. How exactly will prices go down as consumption is still rising? Unless I am greatly mistaken, the oil companies will be able to sell the oil on the GLOBAL MARKET, meaning we fight with India and China and the other 7 billion for our gas.

What Will McCain do if He Loses?

This is McCain's last hurrah. He's too old to run again. I guess he would still stay on in the Senate but in what capacity? Does he really, really think we need to carve into our wilderness or continental shelf to get more oil for big corporations to sell back to us at astronomical rates? I will be very interested to see what he does if all of the mudslinging doesn't pan out. Maybe he'll just retire.

Deeply Offensive

There is no place for this type of garbage. I have a hard time understanding what audience the McCain camp thinks will be impressed. It's childish name-calling and nothing else. Then there's the many snide references to a messiah, heavens parting. Is there really a place for using Jesus as an insult in a presidential campaign? I'm very offended. This one will go down in the books as among the worst.

Original article: My fair gangsta

I Won't Watch It

Perhaps if the show focused on young men paying their back child support, engaging in the lives of their children, furthering their education and treating women with respect I might be tempted. However, the show seems to be about how to wear a pose instead of changing who you are in meaningful ways. The show should be on How to Be a Real Man, not how to pretend to be a "gentleman."

@Wright

Actually, this drilling-for-renewable-energy compromise is the best chance at getting any energy bill passed this year. If you are a serious about overhauling our nonexistent energy policy, this is something you should support. I also think it's important to highlight that Obama clearly states he doesn't think it is either beneficial for the nation in the long run nor that it will bring down gas prices soon. This is just a compromise, one that ensures we (the consumer) get something concrete from government in return for selling off our land just so the oil companies can stick it to us later.

@foggyone

That's an excellent point about U.S. consumers having to compete with, let's just say it, China and India, for a shot at our own oil supplies. Obama spoke about that on Thursday I believe of last week but I think it should be the critical point in any rebuttal ad. Many americans want to believe that we can drill ourselves out of our current (and surely continuing) problem. If they clearly understood they would have to fight alongside exploding populations in Asia, most would be forced to face the reality that prices are basically never going to go way down. The only way to control how much of your check goes to oil is to lower consumption drastically.

To Jeb et. al..

So, what do we do NOW? If I read it correctly, we should expect Obama,the Democratic nominee, to take a stand that is a) quite unpopular with voters and b) gets us no closer to a solution to our energy problems. How does that work for anyone, least of all voters who desperately want someone OTHER than McCain in office?

Let's be clear about one thing, Obama doesn't support offshore drilling because he knows it won't solve our problems with energy consumption. He also knows he needs to get elected FIRST before he can enact a strong energy policy for this country. I'm thrilled he has latched onto this compromise. It gives him a high ground to fight McCain and is consistent with his call for bipartisanship.

@MICKI

A "leader" has to win in order to lead, right?

The offshore drilling issue is a 70% to 30% loser for Democrats. Why in the heck would anyone let McCain ride momentum on this issue? It's BOGUS. We all know that any claim of lowering prices short-term is a total lie. Obama admits it won't work. McCain however is screeching lies, repeatedly, each night from my TV screen. But you get worked up about Obama saying, "yes, let's drill a little but at the same time overhaul energy policy.. and there's bipartisan support so we can actually get this thing done."

Proud but Skeptical

I love hearing stories about uber-women bearing children and then ricocheting back to the top of their sport. Unfortunately, I've been burned far too many times to believe this is the unvarnished truth. The reality is that there are far too many ways to cheat and far to many reasons to cheat. Some get caught, others don't. Personally, I think Dara Torres is simply in the latter category.

Now I can think of one athlete who most likely was totally clean when she won a second Olympic gold medal 1 year after childbirth- Ekaterina Gordeeva, pairs figure skater. Of course her sport didn't rely on sheer speed or abnormal strength, but many years of precision training several hours a day.

It's Low Class...

It's low-class and therefore right up the alley of the idiot brigade applauding. There's nothing complimentary about bragging about your 53 yr old wife (and grandmother!) in a topless parade. What the hell kind of values are those anyway? John McCain, old as he is, needs to grow up.
