@maureenOdonnell

So what's your point here?

This thread is about a musical phenomenon. You probably aren't a fan of the various musical genres involved (you don't sound like it at all) so you can't even appreciate the music from that standpoint. Frankly, if you're going to be so ignorant, you should just stay away from the thread.

@maureenO

Let me make this brief 'cause I'm busy. You are being a troll on this thread. Find a different one to Obama-bash since you have no other purpose here.

Romney Has No Soul

As much as I couldn't stand him, I always thought Romney was smart. Definitely smarter than McCain but also willing to say anything to pander to the Right. If he didn't need to win the Republican primary, he could have been a contender for the White House. As it is, he basically appeals to the base, that's it. That said, I'd love to see Romney on the ticket. McCain would hemmhorage white, blue-collar voters. They'd stay home in droves.

We'll Hear More when the Chinese Clean Up Medals

The U.S. has a major rivalry right now with the Chinese team. I expect to hear much whining and moaning if our girls lose to the Chinese. I have to agree with Harding though, the IOC should uphold its rules and do far more to ensure that all competitors are at least 16. In a sport like gymnastics, a pre-pubescent body is a distinct advantage, much like performance enhancing drugs.

@libertyaintfree

What's your beef? I guess you must be deeply satisfied with the economic debacle that we have now in the United States. The pointless but incredibly expensive "war" in Iraq must also please you. That kind of logic is what surely leads you to refer to a competent, pragmatic governor like Rendell as "fast Eddie."

BTW- Rendell recently bumped up the subsidy to the Philadelphia School District significantly. A first for a PA governor and indicative of basic intelligence, unlike for example Tom Ridge. He understands that you must PAY for additional resources in the classroom. George Bush appears to have missed that lesson as well but I have hOpe. That clown is on the way out!

@T Suarez is a Liar

You wrote:

"But Obama skipped visiting wounded soldiers but didn't miss his basketball game. He says the Pentagon nixed the trip; they didn't. They said as a sitting Senator he had a right to visit the wounded troops. But they also said only he and his staff could visit, not the press."

____________________________________________________________

Either you are stupid, cannot read or a LIAR. My bet is the latter. Obama most certainly did visit wounded troops... last week in Afghanistan. No media fanfare, no press, nothing. Just he and the OTHER senators and their staff. You see, it wasn't a campaign trip. It was a trip to gather information on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan. OTOH, the Germany visit was funded by his campaign. See the difference? It's obvious to those who can read.

McCain may be forgiven his confusion on the grounds of senility and the fact that his own party can barely stomache him. He must do something. You OTOH are not. You are a liar. Period.

For those who care, here's a link for FULL information about the cancelled visit in Germany.

My take is Obama was set up by the Pentagon, very much like the deeply unprofessional antics of the Justice Department aides. There's a clear thread of partisan and unprofessional behavior throughout many government entities under the Bush administration.

@firefly

Would skeletal assessment help distinguish a late-bloomer from a 14 yr old? No. I stopped growing by 14. I went through normal puberty which is not true of most gymnasts and dancers. However, it couldn't be considered definitive because girls go through puberty at different ages.

As a young teen of 14, I had a very slight scoliosis and I had an x-ray of my spine and hand. The doctor told me I didn't need a brace or anything because I was basically the height I would be as an adult.

Hey, at Least Obama is Trying

God only knows if his plans will work. We have a real mess to deal with, but Obama at least seems to have the will to approach solutions. McCain, as Leonard so aptly puts it, has nothing, no idea, nothing new certainly. Frankly, on that basis alone, he should be out of the running for the job of president. We need to have someone who isn't totally disconnected from the economic reality we are facing in this country.

Why Repeat Lies?

I understand why McCain does it. He has nothing else but smears and lies at this point. I mean the big news about McCain yesterday was that he had some skin removed.

However, some of the posters asserting that Obama "didn't visit wounded troops" on this thread aren't complete idiots. When you state something that is easily refutable and patently false, you are lying and a liar. It's not an opinion to state something that didn't happen, it's just a lie.

Who Cares?

Anyone who can't stand Oliver Stone and his slant on Bush just won't see the movie. Those who want to see Bush skewered, every possible flaw highlighted on the big screen, will flock to it. Personally, I'm skeptical that the film will be any good (the subject matter kind of sucks) but since I love Jeffrey Wright and have become a huge fan of Josh Brolin, I just might see it for those performances.

Bottom line: People go see fictional movies to be entertained not persuaded. If the movie is very good or features some terrific performances, the "Hollywood hates Bush" story might have legs for a few days. The movie just might fade quietly away though.
