Thanks for the story

This horror reminds us how fundamentally different our values are from those of many Iraqis. How does our continued presence in Iraq solve what is simply cultural tradition? Honor killings are an extension of honor codes. In many regions of the world, the only security that is guaranteed is that accrued by familial relations and connections. In these hardscrabble areas of the world, any affront that hurts one member of the family is addressed as an affront to the entire extended family. The family then acts as gatekeepers to ward off anything that might threaten the only thing of value, their name and social standing. Without them, these people have almost nothing. The only thing that surprises me is that the mother is trying to get a divorce on the grounds of murder. I wish her luck.

@kate

You just don't get it. I think Obama will DO what he SAYS he will do. I certainly wouldn't vote for Obama if I thought he was just another politician that would say anything (like a gas tax holiday for instance) just to scrounge a few votes. BTW- where did that gas tax holiday go?

Why in the hell would anyone believe McCain would do anything he says in an ad, when it directly contradicts everything else he has said and done before? Any hints or suggestions because it's escaping me. I think the Democrats will have a field day showing McCain's blatant flip-flop on this issue and we all know voters hate inconsistencies.

We should also send a message of thanks to George Bush on this day for highlighting that Obama is trying to bring down the Bush/Cheney/McCain administration. No better way to bring a party together than to say something completely outrageous about the opposition.

@Filthy

"Hey KateTex

Would MoveOn still be arrogant if they had endorsed Hillary?"

____________________________________________________________

We all know the answer to that, right? Kate is just confused. She thinks that because MoveOn came to be as a means for progressives to save Bill's lying, philandering rear end, that it is owned by the Clinton's.

Civil Unions are not Marriage

The fact is that there is a whole segment of American citizens who do not share in the same rights as others. This is just not acceptable. Both Hillary Clinton and Obama need to come out on the side of what's right. This is a civil rights issue, not a morality issue.

Great Story Ann

Life doesn't have to be about the next, new exciting thing around the corner. Then again, when you have children, there's always something unexpected and frequently wonderful in the everyday.

McCain's a Hypocrite

That's his real problem, not the lobbyists.

Original article: Quote of the day

Neocon Strategy has Delivered Failure

Even Condi Rice and Gates seem to understand that they won't accomplish anything meaningful as long as the strategy remains the same. Of course, when it comes to Obama, the neocons are trying to paint him as clueless on foreign policy. The only question for me is how anyone takes what they say seriously after the continuing debacles that are Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, and Pakistan. Where is their standing to query anyone on policy when their own has so spectacularly failed?

It's not just "using the web"

This loony tune mom went a great deal farther than that. Lori Drew went out of her way to torment the victim. She deserves to be punished. Frankly, criminal charges are a good way to go because most people who are not habitual criminals fear prison far more than losing money.

So, who's buying this?

I find it almost incomprehensible that any rational person would take McCain seriously on his new Iraq stance. Frankly, with this kind of an address, McCain may end up being a big joke on foreign policy. The whole gazing into the crystal ball approach and magically pulling out 2013 as the year of Iraqi war success is just laughable.

Go Obama!

Terrific address! Dems need to ATTACK on the issue of foreign policy. Barack Obama didn't just rail against the name-calling, he dissected each foreign policy failure of the Bush/Cheney White House and securely attached John McCain's name to it. Over and over again. I am soooo happy! The only thing better than this was reading the head-scratcher that is McCain new approach to Iran, Iraq and Al-Qaeda. Fun stuff!

@Shawn

LOL! You really think that McCain's take on Iraq 2013 is a good strategy? He sounds like Madame Zelda when he envisions a world, precisely 5 yrs in the future, where Iraq is democratic and secure, bin Laden is dead and Al-Qaeda destroyed. Just one question left: How? Any ideas Shawn?

@RJforHRC

You wrote:

"Edward should endorse Clinton. I thought his ideology is closer to Clinton in Health care and in working for poor, etc. Now he is being used by Obama to steal the media coverage from Clinton. Doesn't this remind you the Kerry endorsing Obama that gave Edward a smack right in his face? As high-minded as Obama would portrait himself to be, he is a low life with no respect to senior senator. I am sorry Edward endorsing Obama, I am sad Edward lost a bit of his soul that day. What did Edward get?"

_________________________________________________________

Two things:

1) You've missed the plotline. Perhaps you don't recall it, but Edwards was Kerry's VP candidate. He was supposed to wait for Kerry to state that he would or would not be running again before he decided on his candidacy. He didn't and yes, Kerry is alleged to have been offended.

2) What makes you believe that Edwards is closer in ideology to Clinton? Many of his top advisors were horrified at the thought that he would endorse someone who is so totally an "insider" and a part of the Washington problem. Remember, Bill Clinton brought us NAFTA and Welfare to Work. How does that support the poor, working-class of this nation?
