Ridiculous. Wright doesn't need to help Obama by making a jack*ss of himself. All he had to do was make a quiet statement about his beliefs and let it go. He couldn't do that.

On one hand I understand that. Others shouldn't be able to paint you as a loony just because they don't "get" your views. OTOH, how do you help yourself (or Obama) by letting loose in an arrogant fashion with some of your more incindiery views? This is a guy, for all who forget, who has many, many friends in religious circles who deeply admire him and his work. These people are from all different ethnic backgrounds and they sing his praises. Obviously, Wright's more contraversial views don't seem to influence his work or relationships within or outside of the community. They are one small part of who he is but he made these perspectives front & center on national TV.

Frankly, I don't think Rev. Wright cares about what this is doing to Obama. It's about him. Again, his job is not to save his politician friend's bacon, but he could lay low for a bit. That didn't happen, not by along shot.

Most people who know Rev. Wright and have spoken out for him, including Obama, have stated that these contraversial views weren't a big part of his ministry. People of all different backgrounds, religions have worked very successfully with Wright and praise his intelligence and sincerity. Perhaps you want it to be otherwise, but the fact is that Wright didn't make these loonier stances a big part of his ministry. To reduce his work to a few statements he has made isn't an accurate representation.

Wright made real issues that matter to real people, like poverty and AIDS, the crux of his life's work. Unfortunately, he holds some views not sanctioned by Obama and many others who personally like him and have worked with him. It is fundamentally unfair and dishonest to suggets that Obama and his pastor MUST have the same views. They don't. Just as many others who have worked and prayed with Wright don't share his views. Sometimes you just take people, good people anyway, as they are, flaws and all.

except for the two big panderers in the race. Even Bush knows it's stupid.

  • Wright Speaks for Wright

Barack Obama is responsible for what he says, not for what Rev. Wright says. Wright obviously can speak for himself. Every person he knows and works with does not have to agree with his every perspective.

I'd also like to add to those who rashly throw the racist label around, please research the people who are DEFENDING Wright. A whole lotta white people. Yeah, Wright is not racist. These are his colleagues and friends. Wright holds onto conspiracy theories and accuses the American gov of being racist. That's not the same thing as hating white people or hating America for that matter.

[Read the article: My husband of 12 years suddenly says he never loved me]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The LW has 5 children with her husband. Neither needs to take time off and they can't take it so it's a bad idea anyway. Your suggestion about her getting legal and financial advice is spot on though. If she can, she should also force her husband to see a therapist. No one can wake up one day and be miserable, too miserable to go on as a father and husband to a family of 6. This guy is either mentally ill or a totally selfish SOB.

Just reading this letter makes my teeth grind together. I want to find the LW's husband and slap him. How dare he pull this 2 weeks after a new baby?

  • Gender Imbalance

This is not a pretty picture. Another poster alluded to this demographic situation as it occurs right now in China. It's devastating to whole villages and towns as young males can find no female partners. China also has experienced a frightening uptick in bride kidnappings. Some men are so desperate that they kidnap other men's women in order to gain a family.

India needs to address this issue right away and in a very aggressive manner. The best way is to create incentives for families to have girls. However, India might also think about family planning and reducing the sheer number of births overall.

This proposal by Clinton/McCain is nothing more, nothing less than a scam. Scams do work though, they take people in and fleece them. That's what will happen in this case too.

Both McCain and Clinton would have you believe that gas prices at the pump fall out of the sky. In that upside down world, one might experience a small benefit at the pump with a tax holiday. But we live in reality, right?

In the world known as reality, a relatively stable supply (oil production) met with increasing demand (summer is 5% higher usage) means higher prices at the pump. Now Clinton and McCain want to lower prices aritificially by eliminating a small fixed tax on the product.

Guess what the result is? Anyone with one basic course in econ knows that prices will rise. This tax holiday also takes place at the very height of American usage, encouraging MORE consumption. Why would you encourage demand of a product already in high demand when you want to LOWER PRICES?

This is what is meant by "stupid." Not only does this tax holiday not save anyone any kind of real money, it will do the exact opposite of what we want it to do, which is keep prices down. I would bet anything that within a few weeks, prices will be back up to the previous levels. So the consumer saves....nothing.
