@magdelyn

You referred to an earlier article you wrote back in 2007 where you stated that sex is "taboo". I'm flabbergasted. Women can have sex whenever they want and they do. So can men and they don't have to pay for it unless they're hideous or freaks by some measure. Hook ups exist everywhere.

This whole construct that our society views sex as taboo and something to be controlled is quite a throwback to much earlier generations. God knows it doesn't exist in my generation (I'm 40 yrs old) or in the one right after or this most recent generation. Our current crop of teens is both sexually active and yet not sexually responsible. A terrible mix.

Frankly, with so much promiscuity I have trouble understanding why people like Spitzer even both with prostitutes but I have my theories. Ensuring secrecy is one but that really didn't work for him here, did it? Another is that what they want is not sex, but power over another person. After all, when you pay, that's all you have to give out. It's not a reciprocal event.

@Anon

Good point!

@Quadrophone

All parents know (or should know) that a very small group of children will have a very bad reaction to vaccines. Why didn't the pediatrician do more for these children that were clearly suffering extreme effects? I don't get that part at all. It frankly sounds more like a case of malpractice than anything else.

A wife can't withhold intimacy from her husband, a vicious form of emotional blackmail that happens far too often in this country. Think about it, were it legalized the prices would drop significantly, same as with illegal drugs. If one could safely get release for 50-200 bucks the dynamics of dating and marriage might be forever altered."

Just one question: Do you really, really believe that to be true? It's beyond absurd. First, people can cheat if they want extramarital sex and that's not illegal at all. Don't tell me it's hard to find either because people hook up all the time through personals. Sex is easy. One would think we were in Victorian England by your comments.

The fact is that the older, out-of-shape guy with the receding hairline is NEVER going to get the Kristens of the world without shelling out a lot of money. Most men I know though have something called self-esteem. They'd rather go through dating and marriage to be with someone who actually cares for them rather than just pay someone for sex. That's demeaning to men too.

@Aychar

People who want to just have sex can do so. It's easy. Look ANYWHERE on the Internet. Will they look like Kristen? No. In fact, they'll look a whole lot like you. Will they do it just to hook up? Yes. Why do you think you're alone? You're not. Your standards are just too high.

Sorry that sex hasn't been commodified to the point where you can pay a minimal sum for some young girl you could never get in real life for whatever and just walk away without risk of arrest. I guess you and other guys will still just have to work harder to get what you want. Or travel to some foreign nation where poverty drives huge swaths of girls into prositution. For a very small sum I hear you can get a beautiful young girl who could easily rival Kristen in the looks department. Good luck in future solicitation endeavors!

@ Amerigo

If personal ads didn't work, there wouldn't be so many out there. Logic really. It's a huge industry.

Of course, not for me. Ever. I've been married 12 years, happily. If my husband were to pass away I'd be happy with the relationship I had with a person who loved me best rather than pay for sex or hook up anonymously. If another love came along, great. If not, so be it. I have other people and goals in my life that make me feel wanted and needed.

Now what about that as a strategy? Improve all other aspects of your life to make yourself fulfilled instead of feeding off of someone else's misfortune to satisfy your own needs.

Good Laws, Stupid People

This case is a perfect example of poorly trained police doing the job better left to social workers. The baby was in the car for a couple of minutes total. The mom was close by and was able to see her car. The child suffered no harm at all. What's the big deal?

OTOH, the police left this woman's other 3 children alone in the WalMart without anyone from Child Services to support them until their dad arrived. Are these police being prosecuted?

With a 3 yr old of my own I have recently:

*left my toddler in the car to drop a letter in the mail box.

* Left my toddler in the car across the street while purchasing a pretzel for him in Center City Philadelphia.

* God knows how many times run back into the house to locate wipes, diapers, snack, toy, cash whatever. I do not take my son out and drag him back into the house. That's silly.

@recedar

All children are to be restrained in car seats. They should not be able to get out of that seat, unlock doors or anything else in the car. How was a toddler able to undo the restraints? I have real little monkey and he hasn't got a chance against his car seat buckles. Sometime I have trouble with it.

Not Overblown

Geraldine Ferraro should have been dismissed by the Clinton camp as soon as her big mouth started DEFENDING her totally indefensible previous comments. Hillary Clinton will pay the price in the GE if she wins the nomination.

The Parent did

the best thing for them and their daughter. It wasn't easy but it was a kind and caring decision that reflected on this child's future life expectancy and outcomes.
